oh I see what you did there.. Has anyone here seen-or-read Tokyo Ghoul? How was it? Thinking of picking it up. Also, as for the SAO shenanigans, I won't lie when I say that SAO was one-of-the-if-not-best novels I have ever read. That might not be saying much because I have not read many novels, but It was the FIRST novel to ever make me sit down and read thousands of pages in literally a week or two. The anime was a disasterous disappointment though. So huge that I am not even watching Gungale online, because I am just disgusted by the fact that both Airncrad and Alfhelm get half a season, while the trash that is Gungale gets a full season. The MC is quite a boss and it's SFW. Also has Hayamin. It's not that well thought of by other people though, especially third season was a trainwreck. Still highfive for iamP for realizing the good shit o/ QFT, loved the show, couldn't stand to watch the third season.. Elsie is love, Elsie is life. K-ON:wasn't even a bash. I really enjoyed the watch. It's just that you'll have a bad time if you go into it expecting anything meaningful. If you want to have senseless moe it's pretty damn good at that actually. Also HOLY CRAP that japanese-english in the Movie was the cutest thing ever. Even better because of the contrast of actual, british english from british VA for the british people like the taxi-driver and whatnot. Tokyou Ghoul:Haven't watched it myself, it's really not my kind of thing but I heard A LOT of good stuff about the source and everyone was hyping it like crazy. The anime on the other hand was very dissapointing to those people later on. So check out the source for sure if you think it fits your style. Give the animation a chance if you really like it but the original is going to be better. Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai:Haqua was obviously best.
1) I liked K-on, so yeah. :3
2) guess I'll stick to reading it first, already have it on my phone =D
3) What the hell are you smoking.

It's pretty much the same, equally famous series/Novel just even more extreme than SAO in the parts that I consider bad. For Mahouka it was actually funny because of that, at least for me. But that's a pretty trashy recommendation just for shitz and giggles. But so is SAO o/
Oh I actually tried reading Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, but it didn't tickle my fancy enough to keep going. Have you read Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria ? It has a pretty interesting premise and quite a lot of really interesting plot twists. I recommend.

I wouldn't dare to recommend that to anyone who actually read a couple of things but anyways:
I'm actually still really bad at japanese.. somewhere around N4 level I'd guess... that would be around a kiddo in 7th grade for english (in Germany) I suppose? So I'm mostly just reading / forcing myself through Monogatari hoping that my reading skills will improve soon enough. Funny sidestory, a friend who's currently abroad in Japan for University showed one of his labmates a random page from Monogatari and the guy, a native japanese, told him he would have to look up about 50% of the Kanji on that page. Should have probably picked something easier o/
So no haven't read it. I can't really read fast enough to pick up a lot of stuff at once. Sometimes I try out the english translations on baka-tsuki for currently airing stuff but they're usually really sketchy unless the series happens to be super famous.
But I did try out Mahouka in english and HOLY CRAP that was so much more extreme than the anime. + Show Spoiler [example] +/talking about arranged marriages up here/
In reality, she wouldn’t do anything of that nature with any boy save her brother. These were Miyuki’s true feelings. No, the real truth of the matter was that she detested all the other boys except for Tatsuya. It wasn’t a biological issue, so something like dancing was still acceptable. However, in Miyuki’s heart, the only who was allowed to touch her was Tatsuya. The only one who could do as he wished with her was Tatsuya alone. The reflection in the mirror was that of herself clad in her underwear. As she looked upon herself, Miyuki couldn’t help but think. These fingers and this hair, lips, bosom, the secret places that no one was allowed to see, everything was available for Tatsuya to touch if he willed it. If it was Tatsuya, she was willing to do anything. —No matter if it was her body or heart, everything that she was belonged to Onii-sama— This was Miyuki’s truth, a wish that came from the bottom of her heart akin to prayer. Yet, Miyuki also knew that these feelings would never come to pass. That was what she thought. Can't even put into words how creeped out I was while reading that passage. It's really not a good Novel, but if you can look at it and pretend it's a comedy/parody it's actually quite funny.
Anyways I'll try to squeeze it in this weekend and see what I think about it from however far I get into it. Looks pretty decent actually

I am watching Darker than dark in full hd.
Sadly it is in English.
Oh well.
Maybe it is well dubbed.

annoying that after the episode is done and after the credits there is sometimes some extra stuff. However in this series it looks to be a preview.
|
does that mean you dropped Sinons Ass Online or did you finish it? It even has a second season to it!
|
Well. I only read stuff from baka-tsuki anyway. Not learning japanese, I can only read hiragana. (though reading and actually knowing what the words mean are two different things).
Haven't really seen anything that would make me cringe yet because of translations..
Back on the anime theme -- Currently watching Barakamon. I think I have finally felt the "calm" awesomeness that anime has to offer. The one that people saw in Aria, but I failed to. Really good stuff. Naru is pretty awesome.

PS: SAO is really entertaining btw. And the girls are not as desperate as you described at all. Pretty normal stuff btw. These guys/girls are stuck in a virtual world for months. People get lonely. Kiro is totes strong and handsome. Good catch anyday anytime.

wow, watching Anime at work. The life
Yeah, I did exaggerate when talking about the girls in SAO but even ended in "but that's not a an issue as long as you don't mind harem anime [...] the first half of it was actually quite interesting and fun to watch" iirc? It's still a little silly how you see in episode 1 that about 95% of the population in there is male and pretty much every "female" gets turned into a male again upon receiving that mirror. And he's walking around with a flock of girls and sometimes that 1 single guy-friend who probably has a guy-crush on kirito as well. But yeah, it's actually fun to watch.

i think what hurts SAO online the most is it just moves way to fast. Like it has this extremely interesting premise and world and it doesn't want to take much time to explore it and just rush to a conclusion.

also the second arc is just pure garbage overall despite a couple of cool moments.

I thought the first two episode were some of the best introductory episodes in anime. Although i think it helps if you read nothing about the series and have no idea what its about going in like i did. If you have an idea of what its about then i guess the first episodes are kind of bland.

Like it has this extremely interesting premise and world and it doesn't want to take much time to explore it and just rush to a conclusion. well it kind of has to. Prime example being LogHorizon, because they do have the same premise while being completly different animes in every single aspect if you look past the general setting.
The fact that SAO is a deathgame would make it silly to have episodes that try to give you nostalgic feelings about MMORPGs like doing dungeons/raiding or quests/leveling simply because it's way too serious of a situation to be put into for anyone to care about that. Their life is on the line after all. Unlike in LogHorizon where they don't die and thus have the ability to actually deliver MMORPG nostalgia by showing all that + exploring the world because the people are actually trying to enjoy their stay in there.
I always thought that this deathgame thing was an attempt to make SAO more "epic" and the author just didn't realize in time how severely that'd limit his possibilities to actually use the premise. The only thing he can really use is romance because like Koshi said, it get's lonely in there (I'd suppose) and it's something people would still care about even in the situation they're thrown into, thus + Show Spoiler +Sacchi, the super long "filler" when Kirito and Asuna are at that lake for vacation and them having a child for fucks sake... Not to mention that everyone but Kirito's story is about how they fell in love with Kirito. . Long story short, the premise in SAO thus really is just random background and nothing else LH is an anime about MMORPGs, SAO is an anime that just happens to be "enacted" (?) within an MMORPG but could as well just have whatever else as a setting.
Just watched this week's Amaburi (5th episode?) and that was soooo much better than 4th one. Was afraid KyoAni would go back to their stupid melodrama like Chuunibyou and whatnot... like they did in episode 4 but 5th one really was nothing like that o/
