Sadly, this has become the industry standard. There is no sub-based MMO which doesn't offer a cash shop anymore. FFXIV was the last one standing, and succumbed to the trend a couple of months back.
Blizzard is indeed quite greedy. Stimpacks are a total sham. You need to invest ridiculous amounts of time to break even on them.

That game did so many things right, if only the rest of the game wasn't so unfinished T.T

I find it amazing that people are saying Blizzard is greedy for putting cash items that it no way affect gameplay in their FREE game. Do you expect them to just give out the game for free and never get any money for it ever?
FFS people.

MMO industry actually has to be greedy, to constantly develop stuff. WoW does it to stay ahead and be able to continue using the subscription system to dominate the market and feed the rest of Blizzards products so they don't have to do the crap others publishers do. The others mostly do it because their player base is small and they somehow need to survive. And when the others have to get more greedy, so can Blizzard. A vicious circle that even affects the whole game market, as everyone wants to earn 100 euro per game instead of the old 40 euro. It only works though because most people don't mind spending that much money. But since free2pay games don't want to go super crazy on the price tags when it comes to pay2win, they just make investing time less worth. And that is what affects Hearthstone and also Heroes ingame goldgain. That and that you can abuse the system to earn gold super fast and Blizzard doesn't seem to want to invest money into preventing those win share abuses.
Personally I don't mind, since it actually prolongs my enjoyment of gathering cards/heroes and prevents me from spending money on games. But I understand how that might suck for people that want everything as soon as possible to move to the next game. Or people that want to play competitive. But it will only get worse as free2pay becomes more of a standard. I mean there are even people that want the free2pay model being used everywhere. So there will be more and more time sinks in games so more people will pay to get around those. Oh and recently randomizing what you get for your payment gets more popular. So you might soon have to invest real money, to get a chance on getting the good item.

It does, but the way the achievement is worded I assumed it was for people too impatient to grind out level 10.
Oh well, cosmetic stuff. I've ground out 8 k gold in my two weeks of playing (plevel 9 so far). So It doesn't look horribly grindy to get new heroes (still trying out via rotation / learning the game anyways), this just means Master Skins will be way down my to-get list.

Wildstar's cashshop is that you can buy gold legally though credd.
I just wish the developers of that game knew how to balance pvp instead of having a pvp patch that made everything worse :-(.

They are still selling subscriptions tho.

At leas yo can buy skins with gold, you can't do that on lol, and do not get re-colors. Also I disaggre, most master skins are pretty cool. I haven't bought one yet, and don't plan to do it anytime soon, I want to at my ten heroes first but I lie them.

Alright I didn't want to do this but I have to get this one out :
I just lost a game because we were 2 people defending our core, 1 of our team was dead and 2 others were trying to take down the neutral garden of terror. I pinged our core several times to tell them to def and they insisted on trying to gather seeds when FIVE people were pushing our core. When I asked why they weren't coming they responded "why do you fight them?" well they are taking down our core so we don't really have a choice you clown. We lost on that push while they were still trying to take seeds. You might say this is common in a noob game, alpha and all but I have a fairly decent mmr -_-
|
So I just lost 7 in a row.
6th had a sgt.hammer that was offline for the entire game.
7th had russian illidan doing half my damage(tyrael) and spamming chat.
5 before that something along the same lines.
|
I'm pretty sure tyrael posts more damage than illidan. In any case if you're looking for stats to blame people off of, go with kdr, as odd as it is kdr actually matters in this game compared to dota or lol as kills are shared and dying is super bad. Really shows which players are not team fighting at all or just dying constantly...
Afk and dc players really mess up games though but nothing you can do... Sometimes it's blizzards fault
|
BTW, how do you see the damage / healing numbers? I only get a screen at the end showing kills, deaths and mechanics.
|
Tabbing in game will bring up the stat screen, however the more useful info is on the talent page, which you show by pressing show talents at the bottom of the stat window

FFS people. If it was cheaper i would spend money... It takes a long time to unlock stufff with in game gold and before buying skins i would rather buy heroes, if the price was right. Idk if they charge a lot for mounts and skins (considering its just aesthetics each of them is quite costly), since i don't care if i don't have it. So i don't buy and call it a fair price if people is willing to pay. But having all heroes locked takes a lot of the fun of the game away IMO.
I think the hero rotation is fine, but they should give more starting gold or just change the system completely. Who is going to spend $200 on 10 heroes anyway? Giving the players more choices from the start, or soon after they get into the game will not kill the chances of people spending money on more hero choices and will only increase the chances of people buying cosmetics. And more important, it makes the gaming experience better specially for new players.
Plot twist, they are trying to rip off some alpha/beta users and will release the game with a better system (half joking).

All money spend in the alpha/beta gets refunded for store credit when they wipe the server.
You also realize you are asking them to make it easier for you to get a game for free right? I realize I'm getting a free game because some people are willing to spend a lot of money on things that are (to me) silly, like skins. I don't care the price, I'm not sure I would ever pay money for a digital character in a game to look different* but I'm darn glad people will, because they pay for my game.
* I may buy some bundle or skin just because I want to support the developers, but we'll see when we get to actual release.

Huh, I just noticed I have the HoTS icon on my battle.net client. It's time for me to take a break from Dota 2 to try this out then!
Any tips for a new player and what's the strong/fun heroes to play?
|
Well, there's a free hero rotation you should try before buying heroes / roles, but since you played DotA you probably have a good idea of what you want to play.
Just be aware that you don't unlock all talents until you hit level 4 on a hero, some people play co-op games to get a feel for builds, but most use co-op to level to 4 so you aren't gimped when playing an actual versus game.
Oh and hero lvl 5 grants 500 gold, so the best way to maximize gold is to grind each of the heroes to 5 while they're free.
