There's a bunch of bugs currently that make the game easier. Basically any item that gives you +stats of any kind permanently stack and add up together.
There's also a few bugs with HP, for example my lvl 5 monk has 1k HP for some reason. Int is actually bad because it decreases the dmg of dots. Ranger pets can get bugged in various ways etc.
All in all standard obsidian game, I'm like 30 hours in on PotD+Expert but I'll just wait for a patch now. Quite detracts from the experience when you notice so many odd things happening.

defiance bay

Keep it cool guys with spoilers, seriously... I was reading a bunch of posts about bugs and broken D&D editions and suddenly, that kind of stuff :/ Game hasn't been out for even a week!

Having so much fun with the game.Only thing that is a struggle for someone who hasn't played much of the oldschool games of this genre is trying to figure out when to use abilities and when to just save them.Trial and error is the way obviously but meh.

I just realized that item stat bonuses don't stack, only the best one applies and the others show up as "suppressed" in the character screen :-( There go all my enchantments..

But thanks for the spoiler tags anyway

lol you can kick people away so that they pass your allies, then you can quickly make them attack the flying enemy and they get a disengagement attack for free.

I had to dump the one I met at the statue near the beginning and created a barbarian. One of my main issues is that when there are like 4+ mobs, I can't let combat flow for even 5 second without one of my people being 3 shotted. Its bonkers how much hp human enemies have compared to me. Its weird that i have a main character with 80hp and i regularly get hit for 24-30...... Plus I really still dislike friendly fire on aoe spells. I can shoot a fireball like a fucking sniper through 3 mobs, only to have it bounce off a wall and fuck my whole party. My other complaint is my guys are like level 3 or 4 and I can't do aedrics (might be the wrong name) keep. I made it about halfway through before I encountered a group of paladins and guards that surround you the moment you come out of a door. So I went back to trolling every corner of every forested area looking for wolves and shit to kill. Its getting kind of boring. I'm trying to play as strategically as possible, but when there are no chokes to abuse, I get wrecked. Even with a decent party setup =[ Enemies don't give a lot of experience if that is your purpose for finding shit to kill. It gives a small amount up to a limit and then nothing. Quests and tasks is the way to go. You can also come back to the castle later, it's an optional quest. I personally did it on level 4 with 4 guys on Hard but after that I feel I rolled over the main quest combat up to where I am in Act 2. So maybe you should try to continue the main quest to level up and re-attempt Raedric. I think I'll have to do that. I honestly haven't even looked at my log. I don't even know what the main goal is for me right now lol. I swear I'm not stupid, I just don't pay enough attention. I'm one of those guys who has never read the quest text of a world of Warcraft quest, and I've played hundreds of days worth. I'm trying real hard in this game to stay on top of all the stories though. Fucking ADD....
At least PoE is pretty good at keeping a well made journal

btw, the wizard spell where you summon blights into your hand is like a permanent ranged barbarian heart of fury (?) when you have ae blast talent.
the blight procs autoattack in a radius and each autoattack procs blast ae, you can 1-2 shot swarms with it and it lasts like 60 seconds.
the weapon focus for this is not noble, its adventurer, as i learned too late.

I know this is really offtopic, but as an enthusiastic pen and paper RPG player, i can not let this one uncommented.
There are A LOT of tabletop systems out there, in all sorts of flavours. You have the more simulationistic ones like Dark Eye or Shadowrun, which are full of giant amounts of tables full of rules for all sorts of situations, everything is exactly defined, and the gameplay is (In my opinion) usually extremely powergamey and boring. I would also place DnD in this category, but depending on edition this one can waver around a bit. GURPS also falls into this category afaik.
Then there is the whole Whitewolf stuff (Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, Wraith, Changeling etc..), which are more ruleslight and storyfocussed systems. Tend to be a bit Emo though.
And then there is the whole gigantic Indie market. Lots of different games with lots of different systems for lots of different situations. Usually rather rules-light and story-focussed. FATE (My favorite system), Savage Worlds, Don't Rest Your Head, and probably thousands more.
My main point is that there is a huge variety of systems out there. Do not think that the whole market is as powergamey and simulationist as DnD, or if you like it powergamey, then you can probably find something even more powergamey out there. A lot of this also depends on your DM. I have played with DMs that can make Shadowrun fun, and i have played with DMs that can make any system boring. Usually, a single session with one DM is not necessarily representative of what a system is like.

What, there is a class that can kick people around? Which one, I must play it!
Ok, I find the group stealth thingy a total bs. How am I supposed to backstab people when the only 2 options are: 1. sneak in with a rogue 1st and get instagibbed by all the mobs as soon as you make your stab 2. go in with tank 1st in which case all the party loses stealth and you can't do it anymore
Plus I don't know if it's a feature or weak ai, but whenever I pull enemies they always run past the tank straight for my mage and rogue. Tank gets plenty of opportunity strikes (or w/e it's called when you attacks someone who tries to walk away) on them but they still act as if he wasn't there.

Sometimes I leave very injured members out of fights and like 2~3 screens away so I use stuff on other characters before I rest, and I noticed some mobs (usually like Specters or others ghost-types and fampyrs) just go straight at them, even though they are not even close to the fight.

Sneak attacks from rogues work with Ranged Weapons (pistols and arquebues work quite well) as well. If you mean actual backstab (the talent), then the only reliable way I've found to trigger it is the invisibilty spell that rogues get. Overall, it isn't a very good talent sadly.

Fighters can only aggro a certain amount of enemies, standard 1 I think, 2 more with the modual ability and another one from talents and one more from items, a total of 5 if you do everything you can. Unlikely all 5 will be in range though.
As for backstab, use a ranged weapon so your fighter can move in front before they reach the rogue. Only the flanking bonus would make it worth having a melee rogue.
|
Well, that's really disappointing about the rogue, looks like I'll have to make a new char. Luckily I didn't get too far so it's ok (+/- 5h in, which can be redone in 30 mins ). Also another thing that's totally screwed up with rogue is that evasion skill, that supposedly let's you run away from melee fight without consequences. In reality the range is pathetic, you get hit by opportunity strikes anyway and mobs chase you down in an instant, even if there is a tank nearby that's not engaged with any other enemies.

About kicking people around monk can do it (although skill doesn't say anything about kicking), also ciphers, druids and chanters have abilities to push opponenets.

Stronghold Upgrades + Show Spoiler +I bought everything for stronghold, hired 8 guys and there are prestigious visitors in the great hall most of the time. It looked like an abondoned ruins of a fort before, now it looks like an abondoned cool looking fort. I thought there will be people in at least brighthallows first floor. I can see grand total of 8 guys in the courtyard. And who the hell are we collecting taxes from? There is a giant city with an army, they don't seem to care about this new fort at all :D
And the resting bonuses should stack in my opinion. A random broke ass tavern in gilded vale have much better bonuses than your castle with a pool, maze, personal bar, library etc :D
At least the dungeon below caed nua is fun and i did not see any game breaking bugs yet

fighter has 2 big ae kicks per rest, which is what i used. really good for when the enemy is door-chokepointing you with his mages in the back.
and yeah, i liked the dragon age and NWN2 forts better than this one, feels like a "well, i guess we have to make a fort now, we kinda promised".
