Play -Abandoned Core- Custom Map in Starcraft 2. 1v1,2v2, FFA, and ARCHON! I made it from scratch in the editor. Please review. It's a Volcano Fortress Map. 160x160 (140x132playable) Play on Americas, Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia servers.
I'm having a color issue with my "export Map Image"...the blue mineral nodes look orange and the gold mineral nodes look blue...and my lava looks blue as well.. Im still having an issue with this, if anyone has advice.
From the start looking across the map diagonally to your opponents base.
Controlling your Xel'Naga Tower is key to gaining the rich high ground.
I spent a lot of time on the overall ambiance of a vacated base inside a volcano. I used textures from some classic Wings of Liberty. With the new expansion coming out, I wanted to try to revisit blending of some classic textures..in a new way.
Textures of New Folsom, Char, and Redstone, combined to create Abandoned Core. Please enjoy.

Well in a sense this is a WoL map! I used all WoL dependencies while making it. I still play WoL...it captured my imagination many moons ago, and I just wanted to pay a little aesthetic respect to a fantastic game by building a new map. I'll take the Metalopolis remark as a compliment! Had my first SC2 win ever on that legendary map.

I like the Blue
Looks nice. Think the proportions need work though, the map is hella' ugly in terms of the layout look (not the textures, they are nice, but I'd like to see more doodads). Also the natural expo is abusable and exposed, and I think a gold island so close to the main is going to make Zergs and Protoss cry. Also the mineral lines look real messy, you may want to just copy paste them from ladder maps.

Thanx Kid. Great comments. Proportions ideally are best in 2v2. (FFA also but,do ppl still FFA?) I tried to create a map that truly requires a little team effort. Doodads are a dime a dozen I guess. I still don't know the limits of how much I can and can't add w/o lag. This map should play very smoothly for everyone. Thanx for the tip on Copy Paste ladder maps. I'll load a few for reference. Finally, as a Terran Player, I wouldn't mind seeing them P & Z cry a little bit. Terran's my favorite. Thank you for your input.

I liked your map. One issue I ran into was that when you take the 3rd on the east or west location the vespene gyser is attackable from the high ground in the natural. This might be less of an issue in a 1 vs. 1, but I was playing a 4 player FFA (at location 2), so I had to kill the guy at location 4 before the base was secure.
Another small thing was just the doodads seemed a bit random. I think you did a real good job and I really like the pathing and size of each base.

Great Point Fictitious. I feel placing the third there, in that precarious position, promotes competition for that space.
1v1 it adds a nice defensive location to cover the ramps. 2v2, players on the same team, even if they don't admit it, players like to silently fight for "The Good Spots".Third would be easy for a team to defend with that high ground..and very key to getting through the choke ramps to rich resource highground in the middle. FFA is FFA, someone is gonna lose...so Maybe this adds a rushing element for an FFA player. My experience with FFA always seem to be 45 min Coin Flips. Doesn't mean I don't like to Play FFA. haha Thank You so much for the info and playing.

Cool man. I often wonder if elements like that in maps make the map better or worse. I think it's a mistake to have a map totally devoid of character, but at the same time I get worried if any of my maps aren't totally vanilla and standard that they won't have a chance at getting featured for ladder one day. I am starting to think that maps would be too boring without at least 1 quark that give them character.

Textures look nice! I couldn't tell in-game because I play on Low.
I'm surprised the map is 140x132. Like I said last night, I felt it was quite a bit smaller than that, but that's probably just because of the main base plateau feeling really tight.
I feel like the island golds could lead to some really gimmicky Terran builds. From what I've seen, island expos have been phased out of SC2 in general, so just putting them back into a map is funky enough already without putting golds on them.

I've considered all blues..due to some of the posts about gold gimmicks. I'd like to keep the 2 gold on the plateau, in the center, with the Destructibles. In my fantasyland, there should be prime spots everyone has a chance to fight for. As for the islands, I wanted to make a Volcano Base... to show the Lava meeting the Lava Island. (Spock inside the volcano). I created this account for some player feedback on what I've been making in editor. I'm more of a traditional drawing/painting art guy, and definitely not a pro player. The editor really is quit amazing...Thanx Blizz, It's like a bottomless Starcraft lego set. Thanx for the feed back everyone.
