Blizzard is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with the following job description:
Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation.
We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.
So if you like wearing many hats, know small teams are the most effective, and look forward to challenges that will create millions of new adventures for our players: we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities Make gameplay first again on modern operating systems. Create conditions for experiences that look as good as they play. Own implementation and curation of features new and old. Combat hacking to improve multiplayer. Diagnose and fix all the things: crashes, deadlocks, overflows, heap corruptions, etc.
Sounds pretty much like they are looking to make HD/Remastered/Definitive Editions of their classic games. Probably so that they can shut down Battle.net 1.0 for good and integrate these games into the Battle.net Launcher. HD textures might be an option as well given that they are talking about making them look as good as they play. This could give Star 1 a huge influx of new foreign players and it might make the game more appealing to (Korean) sponsors.

I don't think this is a remake, more of a "Oh shit the game doesn't even run properly on Win 10 fix it" position. All those games need fixes for high resolution monitors, widescreen, removing P2P hosting, etc to make the user experience like it should be.

I don't know what to think of this. Great I guess? but I'm a bit wary of updates from this version of Blizzard.

I agree and I think this is away better direction than a remake. If SC1 was playable directly from the battlenet launcher without bugs on windows 10 and without requirement like port forwarding we would see an influx of players.

Are they making their own "ladder" servers?

As long as they do not touch the core game (including glitches) and leave the gritty graphics/sound, this would be great. Just fix network and graphics issues, really.
Hesitant for anything more, as ActiBlizzard could just mess BW up. Maybe customising hotkeys?

That wouldn't be 1:1 but I guess they could take front-end layer and redraw it for FullHD. You know - mechanically Zaelot will work the same and the in-game squares will stay the same but the sprites are for FullHD.

This is what makes me hopefull & worried at the same time. Considering how money driven blizzard are these days it wouldnt suprise me if they would re-sell it piece by piece, meaning you'd have to buy SC1 and BW (expansion) remake each seperately or some funny shit like that.
