If you want to hatch first and counter this, well you need to drone scout imo. Otherwise unless you blindly counter when going hatch first (by just making lings no drones) than you can hold it, but if you drone and you don't know what he's doing you will probably die.

I personally like This build: 18Pool. 18gas 18hatch, 18queen, 2 lings 22ov. (now if you see early pool all in) Bane nest, spines, make lings, Delay 2nd queen, Defend nat. and enjoy your lead. If they play normal, Speed, 2nd queen, 26ov, bane nest, then your mid game.

Should I focus on building spines? queens? just zerglings? I feel like if you just crank out lings you're going to be in trouble when he morphs banes, but if you try to play defensive with a spine, he can just run banes into your mineral line and get ahead. Does anyone have any super in-depth insight on exactly what to build and how to control? Best way I have found to hold this off is to make a spine + queen + lings and then baneling nest. All you have to do if he does banes is split your drones, try to have spine/queen focus banes and you won't lose too much (as long as you don't lose your lings to his banes as well). If you control correctly you'll be fine.
