Are they playing on WoL or what?

The map list was picked to match the ladder list. We certainly are open to changing it, but considering LotV is still very new, this seemed like a good starting point.
No, this is not WoL.

Oh my god no please. Are they playing on WoL or what? Lol I'm assuming whoever did the rules section just ctrl+p from an older rulebook and forgot to change the maps.
Anyway, I might show up to this if I'm available that weekend. Should be fun

No, this is not WoL. Wait, what! No, no, use the current LotV map pool. Those are ancient maps that haven't been used in competitive play in years.
Dusk Towers (2) Orbital Shipyard (2) Prion Terraces (2) Ulrena (2) Central Protocol (4) Lerilak Crest (4) Ruins of Seras (4)
This is the map pool you want.

OMG why can't I quote reply on here.
SetGuitarsToKill, please read my response.
Questions?

Okay well that's frustrating. Literally went into LotV to look at the ladder map pool and the list in the rules (as of this writing) is what was presented to me. Argh!
Let me look into this right now...

Because if you looked in game those would absolutely have not been the maps you saw. Are you sure you weren't in WoL, because there is an option for that in game

Okay so I'm dumb, my mistake. The damn map list was wrong because I mistakenly had my client set to WoL and thought the ladder only played the current version of the game (LotV) and trusted it. ARGH!
You will find as of right now the rules have been updated to the LotV maps.
Please let me know if you have any further questions/concerns. Meanwhile, I'm going to go be embarrassed in a corner

The thing is I actually play Starcraft kinda regularly, just mostly arcade maps/campaign lately. I have done a bit of competition, so I'm not entirely a slouch. I work hard on these things, so slip-ups like this feel embarrassing ;P
Anyways. Other thoughts on the event??? lol!! ^.^""

Other than that I think it's fine.

Okay I'll look into that too. It's been several years since we last hosted Starcraft 2 so I wanted to go with a safe set of rules for dealing with disconnect. I know that they have reconnect, but I ran out of time recently and could not validate how that mechanism works. I'll look into that shortly, and we can certainly update that archaic rule. Sorry about that.
Any other thoughts?

Other than that I think it's fine. Reconnect is fairly quick and easy. If I do go, I can easily show you how it works. Hell, if I go I can admin the tournament for you if you want.
I'm not sure a Swiss bracket is familiar to most Starcraft players. A GSL bracket, which is similar, would probably be better. It depends on how many players you get. And Bo1 isn't good, especially in the quicker matches of LotV. Bo3 has pretty much always been the minimum standard in SC2.

1) I just tested the reconnect, and I have updated the rules with how the mechanism works as of right now. 2) The format we are using is intentional, and taking multiple things into consideration. Firstly, stage 1 qualifiers as swiss is meant to be about determining their general skill, not if they are the most skilled, and then whether they should qualify for Tier 1 or Tier 2. Secondly, we are already taking into account average sc2 game lengths, even for LotV, and doing bo3 for qualifiers would put us over-schedule. Thirdly, the tournament is designed to handle up-to 64 players, hence why it is like this.
The way we run tournaments generally is not like how others do it, and that's intentional. We do take other tournaments into account, but we have no interest in simply copy-catting what others do. We independently determine what's best for the kind of event and tournaments we want to run. If you take a look at the other tournament rules and formats you will see they are custom tailored to the needs of each game. We spend a lot of time ensuring our tournaments are as high quality as possible, in many regards.
Swiss in particular is a good format because it doesn't eliminate players, but does lead to ranking. We don't like Single Elimination or Double Elimination for early stages of tournaments as we find it defeating to eliminate people early on with so few games. We have seen at our events that Swiss and Round-Robin provides a superior experience to the players, in the early stages.
Any other thoughts/questions? :D

I can confirm that Jer would probably beat me a minimum of 99/100 times, and that might be generous in my favor.

Well since he's in Ontario, maybe you should come since you don't have to face your rival.
