I watched The Giver and didn't see why it got such bad reviews until the end.
I think they would do well to deviate from the established, Pop Sci-fi aesthetic from time to time. This looked like the Hunger Games and Divergent movies had a love child with a dash of Aeon Flux for set design and I think in this case at least they really shoe horned the story into that setting.
Don't waste your time though, not worth it.

Movie year really, really disappojnting so far imo. I don't rate a single flick from this year highly. 2015 wasn't that great either but fuck me this year is abysmal so far.

It has been pretty weak, Deadpool was probably the most across the board enjoyed movie of the year I'm seeing on this list below.
Still have the BFG though, Star Trek which should be exciting though not likely true to the shows, Suicide Squad to continue the DC Slide into movie obscurity.
The rest of the schedule looks super whelming until the new Harry Potter U movie and Doctor Strange

To be frank this stuff doesn't really hit my taste. I enjoyed the last two Star Trek movies, but let's be real, it is popcorn cinema, nothing special. Good for Sunday afternoon. Didn't like Deadpool. If I see another average superhero movie this year I might have to throw rocks at the screen.

Some I see just to have water cooler talk these days.

Independence Day: Resurgence
I'll repeat what I wrote in its own thread, so that more people will hear the warning:
This movie had a solid 2/10 from me for the most of it. The last 10 or so minutes have lowered the final score significantly.
If you value your money, buy something else than a ticket to this crapfest. You have been warned.
Without spoiling anything I can tell you that the script is shit. It's full of cringeworthy one-liners and bad puns. Actors' performances are completely forgettable. Really, no matter how hard I try I simply can't find any redeeming factors for this pile of garbage. This movie is in the "Cannot Unsee" category

The girl who lept through time (Toki o kakeru shôjo)
Been a while since I watched an anime, and I quite enjoyed it. the scenario is a bit childish, but nothing too serious. Great soundtrack also.
Not a A+ film, but I would recommend it nonetheless.

Finding Dory 7/10
The animation was well done but I didn't get the feelz factor that the original gave me. Maybe because I'm too old now idk

10 Cloverfield Lane - Good suspense movie. Not too scary though if you're rooting for John Goodman like I was. My regret is that there are too many spoilers outside the movie. But still interesting ending.
13 hours - Secret Soldiers of Benghazi - Good action thriller. Tense scenes when you don't know how the events are going to unfold. Acting is low key, which gives more believability to the actors portraying the security contractors.
The Finest Hours - Nice ship-in-distress story, but there's too much shifting of the POV, killing the momentum. The CGI is too obvious on most scenes. The lead actor is not entirely believable and maddeningly meek. The good news is the action scenes and the problems encountered are well told.

I watched Independence Day 2 yesterday and it's not nearly as bad as manitou makes it sound. I'm not sure what the original Independence Day was like in your memory but in my opinion both of them are equally cheesy.
I mean obviously the script is one of those America fuck yeah! movies with a more international focus. Exactly what I was expecting having the original in mind.
One thing that would have been cool if they would've swapped a few more of the cookie cutter american leads for more european/asian/african w/e actors. One thing I really enjoy about Game of Thrones for example is that they take their talent from many countries rather than just one or two.

It is legitimately bothering me that the new Ghostbusters movie is sitting at 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. It looks like a steaming pile of shit.

The new independence day movie wasn't as awful as I expected, but still quite bad. I kinda liked all the references to the old movie (so many!) and a few of the jokes were ok. 5/10 because of nostalgia
Two nice guys was a pleasant surprise for a mix of action-comedy film, I had quite a bit of fun with that one :D 8/10
Finding Dory was ok but nothing special. Highlights were the cool octopus and the derpy animals (the bird and specially the sea lion). 7/10
