Like fake china-stuff or nendos or towels with stuff you absolutely hate. But you're hooked at that point 2) some time later decide to commit to one figure of a character you really like that actually looks good on top of that. Because "it's just a one-time thing" after all 2.5) don't get disinherited because you figured when it's going to arrive around Christmas you might as well order it to your parents place anyways and they see the package of some, at most, 16 year old girl posing with shipguns 3) convince yourself that buying another one won't tarnish your #1 figure
I haven't done step3 yet, so only got my Shigure myself so far~

u spend ages browsing for things you like , like either waifus or things you find aesthetically cool
you could start out by checking the latest releases on moonlitsaki https://moonlitsaki.com/2016/07/wonder-festival-2016-summer-index.html or necomagic http://www.nekomagic.com/?cat=2081
both those websites are awesome for weekly updates
typing in some of your waifu's names into amazon works great for browsing older figures but lots of counterfeit shit around there. but its great for just seeing whats there quick , and amazon delivery.
searching http://myfigurecollection.net will give you more detailed pictures and "in life" pictures and tips on where to buy and where places have deals in figure individual comment sections , but this website is more of a database than for browsing casually (unless u have a LOT of free time lol). so look up your figure there after you've found something you like and read the comments/see real life pictures
there are several trustworthy purchasing websites like http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/ and http://www.goodsmile.info/en/products/category/scale/announced/2016 and amiami
some website are even more expensive like https://figuya.com/en/products/meiko-honma-menma-dress-up-chibi-menma-aquamarine but they MIGHT be because of limited stock or factor in delivery/import prices , i never bought from there
some websites have awesome pre-owned section which you can browse forever (i got my yuuki yuni or something pre-owned in perfect condition for much cheaper) http://slist.amiami.com/top/search/list3?s_condition_flg=1&s_sortkey=preowned&pagemax=70&inctxt2=31
and some let you (probably amiami) put a "pretend" price on the receipt so if you get stopped by customs they won't charge you a stupid amount of tax (i.e. you say you ordered £30 of goods instead of £120)
important things to note are ....
1) figures can take like a year to go from "announced" to "preorder" and another year to reach your doorstep
2) many are pre-order only , so if you miss them then you have to hope they were popular enough to be commonly sold second hand (and you want second hand figures), or not popular enough so that sales were too low for stock and stores continue to sell them later . if you miss the pre-order then sometimes figures will end up cheap, sometimes they will be insanely expensive. sometimes they can even be re-released. you can check their myfigurecollection.net page for updates and check amiami's pre-owned section
3) prices are around £80+ not including delivery or tax . they are expensive so its important to not overdo it, especially when you're not sure what's going to be released round the corner. (e.g. no less than 3 different shiros from no game were released over last year). i've avoided import tax so far
4) scale figures are what you're usually looking at. 1/4 is very very big, 1/8 or 1/7 is common size. you might decide that you prefer all figures in 1/7 size , but figures from different companies or anime will be proportioned very differently even at the same scale, so whatever.
5) garage kits are unpainted construction kits which means you need to paint them yourself
6) prize figures are available in japanese vending machines and are generally lower quality and cheaper (£40 or less)
7) you need a lot of space to house figures but you can just buy like a tall corner cabinet thing to display them on
8) be very careful when considering purchases, look carefully to see how accurate the faces of the characters are sculpted. personally i find a lot of disappointing characterisations and aim to acquire only things i think are the best of the absolute best in terms of a) quality and b) likeness . i (carefully) bought some (cheaper) prize figures to begin with and even tho they are super cute, there are or will be even higher quality figures around that i will want (good example is that new Madoka)
9) check for counterfeits (on myfigurecollection), basically make sure u buy from a trusted seller and not Bob on Amazon
lol toad yeah you also have to be careful that you don't buy anything too incriminating that housemates will call the police for , or on the other hand just go all out weaboo power
also you mustn't look under their skirts to see what panties they are wearing, you must respect your waifus, there is no way you are allowed to do this
|
I spend a lot on buying LNs and manga. When the prices are 6-15 bucks its easier to impulse buy
Anime is often pretty expensive and every time I entertain the idea of getting a figure I just look at the price and that sets me straight.
|
probably most people will save up and drop £5k or something stupid on a car the waifus are calling
|
a car on the other hand has superior usefulness in every day life though unless I misunderstood the innitial "how do I get into anime figures" question
|
well the point is u can get a car for like 1-1.5k and spend the other 3.5k on waifus
|
or you leave the car behind completly, save up some more and get the real deal when it comes to figures: the 1:1 scale versions
at only 1.98 million yen (US$18,885.24)!
(I still think that looks way more ugly than the 1/7 or 1/8 version)
|
yeah theres something wrong with life sized anime depictions that i cant place my finger on
probably that at a realistic size they need to have realistic features and texture . not because they innately look any different to their small scale versions, but because we subconsciously expect/require them to look realistic if they are at a realistic size
so its like they look like weird and shit because our brains tell us they look weird and shit, not because they actually look weird and shit compared to their scale models

I love the wackiness of Mob Psycho 100, to me it's far better than One Punch Man I need to really figure out who I have pure love for, the only character that comes to mind is Alicia Florence from the Aria the Animation series
|
|
$100 pre-owned just fuck my wallet up fam Still though, this actually looks like a great investment if you can get an original when it's released, list price was only $60

I'm glad that I'm not into figurines. I own a single figurine, a big one I got from a collectors edition of a game. 4 years later it still bums around inside the collectors box...

That's surprising considering your posts when OPM was airing. To me it seems, the author decided to use a kind of humor for Mob Psycho he only used a handful of times in OPM - those jokes I weren't funny to me in OPM, either. For example the scene where Saitama fights that asuran monster and realises that he forgot that a sale was going on... Build up way too long, punchline way too weak. Remembering your complains about OPM, I didn't think this would be a kind of humor you like. I like the wackiness as well in terms of the animation. It's quite enjoyable. The action scene in the end of ep3 was awesome. It's not enough for me though.

Newer stuff is pretty much always both cheaper and easier to get. I think there is a new Akari figure coming out sometime in the foreseeable future, but I don't think there is an Alicia.

lol cool i have never seen these

yeah i'm reasonably certain that investing in a figure under the hope that she becomes collectors value is a dodgy idea. like i said, lots of people sell their pre-owned stuff in great condition and under-priced, and you never know if a figure is going to be re-released , or if they made too many of them , or if a new figure is going to outshine it
like, my yuuki yuna is insanely beautiful, but they must have overstocked like crazy coz she's still available and far cheaper than release http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=FIGURE-011246
and here is the shiro that was released for £110 or something, then (surprisingly) re-released a year later, after another 2 different versions of shiro were released, and no doubt is selling for a lot less in mint condition pre-owned by now. don't get fooled by the listings for £220 on amazon, or all the counterfeit listings (this is a counterfeit listing!!: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Figure-Collectible-SGFG215-EXPERTDEALERS/dp/B01GDPCTZ4/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1469541411&sr=8-23&keywords=shiro no game )

Finished up Space Dandy s1. Ep13 was a great way to end the first season. :D That action in the end there, so juicy! This was also really refreshing. I love some non-sense humour paired with wacky and creative animation. 7/10, pretty good show. Definitely looking forward to s2.

Watched Nausicaa today!
Not bad, not my favourite Ghibli movie though! At first, I thought it was some sort of survival/insect apocalypse movie!
I'm in the mood for some Starship Troopers-like anime! Anything worth watching? I've already watched Blue Gender a few years ago! Some recent shows like Sidonia too!
|
terraformas (uncensored vers)?
oh if you liked sidonia you should check out their next anime Ajin, it was pretty good. its a bit like parasyte

Nausica isn't a Ghibli movie.
