Greetings, if you're reading this thread than you're probably wondering why it's 'unofficial'. Before getting into the details of the tournament, the folks who do the official graphics/posters etc for TING are on holidays until the new years and we really want to make this info public so players & other ogranizers can prepare.

I liked the Bo5 groups. What's the reason behind the change?

I remember when we had the old WCS, one group would take around 5 hours or so, so if you have potentially 50% more games, then your broadcast is extended by a couple more hours. It just means a bigger time commitment by basetrade, the players, and some Ting people.
This may not be the case at all, but more games do mean more time committed by those involved.

Old WCS taking 5 hours is a live show, online downtime between series is much lower. I can't speak for Basetrade, but here are my two cents on BO3 / BO5.
The problem is volatility in length. A BO3 can take 15-20 minutes and be over, or 20 minutes and still be in game one. The risk here is running too short of a broadcast. In a BO5 that volatilty grows ten-fold. When I ran Wardi Open some groups took ~4 hours with 5 BO5s, another took almost 6, which is too long for players and also long for casting. By running BO3s you run the risk of a shorter broadcast, which is possibly more desirable than a broadcast which is too long, especially if you have other events to cast around the clock which Basetrade obviously do.
Essentially as you said, just worded a bit differently.

Nope, which is even more awesome

Great news :D except from top 8 prize to top 4 ! But all looks super good !

This is so freaking awesome, especially the chance for players to visit California!
But the GSL final is on the same weekend? (25 Mar) Would that affect players who have a good chance of reaching the GSL finals?

Ohh I hope the finals are near me so I can go.
