The first group of the condensed week, Group G, featured established veterans of varying acclaim in ByuN, Stats and Ryung as well as a newcomer DRGLing. First to get out of Group G was Stats who, although slow to react to ranged liberators, was able to out-muscle ByuN with a colossus/high templar composition. 2 consecutive victories over Terran are a positive sign for a player who undoubtedly fancies himself a title contender.
DRGLing's tournament came to a terminus in a disappointing series against Ryung that including a peculiar ling/bane style versus mech on Overgrowth. Building on that victory, Ryung moved on to face ByuN in the final match of the day. In the decisive game, Ryung leveraged an early economic advantage and a ByuN error into an overwhelming siege tank advantage which earned him a place in the round of 16.
Group F contained Classic, aLive and MyuNgSiK, but the inarguable highlight was Scarlett. Despite the hype surrounding the first foreigner in GSL in years, it was Classic who topped the group in dominant fashion. His ceaseless harassment and expert defense on Whirlwind were key in defeating Scarlett and propelled him into the Round of 16.
Meanwhile a resurgent aLive put a moratorium on MyuNgSiK’s return to Starcraft 2. The ex-SKT Protoss looked inadequate at best and positively undeserving of a GSL spot at worse. Whether he returns for season 2 remains to be seen, but it would not be surprising if he opted not to. After that aLive battled for his tournament life against Scarlett in a tense match. He would emerge victorious in a 3 game set that included all manner of compositions from the foreign Zerg, making him the final player to advance to the next stage of 2017 GSL Season 1.

Sad news, i watched scarlett, good series vs aLive
off topic. What is the point of having "Spoiler free TL" when the menus at the left still show the thread titles?

you have to actually go to the spoiler free site:
http://www.teamliquid.net/nospoiler
Otherwise there could be spoilers.
For example, Now I see the titles hidden and [Spoiler Hidden] as the links on the left.

In the front page, search for "Hide Spoiler". There is a tick box.

Sad for ByuN and Scarlett, cool for Ryung and aLive tho, their happiness depended on the sadness of fan favorites tho :/.

I dont think Classic dominated Scarlett in the series, sure the 3rd game was all Classic's favour, but all came down to an early 2 adept harrash killing too much. That happens very often to all zergs and doesnt means a difference in skill level by any means.

There was zero sarcasm there. Both Terran and Protoss are dominant vZ in the current meta. It's very obvious while playing that zerg is very weak currently. This problem is made even more obvious by recent tournament results.
Also, I find it quite ridiculous that I was warned for my OP. I guess freedom of speech isn't something I have here :/

He is one of the (if not the) top foreigners indeed but they are still top to decent korean players (INno / Zest / sOs from most in form to less) so it musn't be that weak.
