Two major differences with the anime in this chapter : + Show Spoiler + Current-time Gowasu gets (most probably) killed by Black. Also all humans except Trunk and Mai have been wiped out so in theory that would mean no genkidama-ken.

But if Universe 9 loses 0-3, no matter how close and entertaining the fights went, could give Zeno an excuse to destroy Universe 9, which also means, there are only 8 Universes left for the big tournament. So, quarterfinals kinda. 9 participants isnt really working, assuming it is a "regular" tournament. Also Gohan can barely do it, regaining some of his true potential, and still come to the conclusion: need more training. And this way it would be easier to end the fight without him being killed liked it was said, and the way back to his full power would be shorter, more logical, as it wont need all the training time to do that. Which shouldnt be multiple month. More weeks i guess. Though all this "loser universe gets destroyed" seems very silly to me. At the end, there should be only one winner of a tournament, right? Which means every universe besides the one winning will be destroyed. Shortly after they are introduced, that they even exist, they are taken out already.

1. Something happens that stops the tournament and maybe 1 or 2 universes get destroyed. 2. The more likely I think now, Universe 7 wins the tournament and Goku uses the Super Dragon Balls to wish back all the universes and people wiped out. I don't see the tournament ending and every universe but 7 is destroyed.

And then Super learns to live without Goku for a while.

That's never gonna happen though. The introduction of all these universes, gods of destruction and even more powerful beings did hurt the potential quite a bit. I would really hope the can somehow scale it back, but that seems unlikely

In general i think that the story doesn't take itself seriously and that seems quite weird whe you consider the scope we are dealing with. It hurts the tension quite a lot imo.

Not stronger to challenge more and more powerful opponents to see how far he can go without them destroying Earth? Can I get that Goku back?

DB at times as well but it simply didn't come up as often. The example I can think of is how he fought Piccolo jr.

At least the Super anime. Especially the Super anime if you include the filler where he hires Hit to kill himself. Compare that to the Cell games where he gives up because he knows Cell is too strong for him and teleports exploding Cell away from Earth. I mean for fuck's sake in Super he offered to spare Frieza. Again. After he invaded Earth, killed more of his friends and threatened to kill even more, and despite knowing that full power Golden Frieza was stronger than himself and would never stop being a heartless tyrant.

... Can we just make an anime about the incredible adventures of Mr. Satan and his best friend Mr. Buu? That sounds like a fun story.

Good point actually. I still think it's the shift in tone from DBZ to Super which makes it more impactful tbh. The whole story doesn't get as serious as DBZ (at least i remember it that way) I heard that this might be largely due to the dub though
