Now, if they include unlimited unit select, non-optional automine, non-optional smartcasting and MBS, etc. etc., THAT would be a total botch. If they expect new players to buy and play this game MBS and automine are 100% required and would not change tactical part of the game, only make the macro part less crazy hard for average players. Smartcasting and unlimited selection can be argued to be left out as both change the tactical part of the game a lot but also not including this could be a deal breaker to many people. Is that discussion starting again now? Sure MBS was fine in SC2, but in a remake of a SC:BW - I would call it a massive fuck up if they included it. Maybe for 2000 people still playing BW after all these years. But I am pretty sure Blizzard want to get paid for the effort to make BWHD and that means not catering to this small group. They could make two game modes, maybe even with two matchmaking systems but in sc2 they never wanted to have more than one so I doubt it. I would expect they leave an option to keep the game as it is for tournament play in Korea but Matchmaking and all that will need to use a modern UI if they want new players to pick up BWHD and play it.
You do not understand that MBS and co. will make the game unplayable with current balance patch, so even those masses, who want MBS, smartcasting, good pathfinding etc. won't play BW:HD, because it would be so unbalanced.

tbh I personally never enjoyed all the limitations of BW and absolutely doubt they are "nessessary" to be in a remastered version. What I enjoyed was the higher value of tactical and strategical decisions over pure mechanical speed and ability-spam in SC2. namely the damagesystem of reducing damage (50%, 25%) vs certain enemy units instead of the terrible "bonus damage" system of SC2. The highground advantage. The Mapdesign full of plateaus, islands and cliffs to use it for your advantage. The simplicity of the unit system that basically fit the three different race-playstyles pretty well and the way better design of the "spellcasters".
If they released an BW with HD graphics, automine, mbs, fixed pathing, smartcasting, customizeable hotkeys and increased control groups, I'd personally be pretty fine fith it. Would it create new balance problems? Maybe. I am not so sure that they would be instantly gamebreaking, because these benefits apply to all races, not just one. And maybe the players find ways to adapt in the different matchups. Time would tell.
I can accept that there are lots of people wo want an exact 1:1 copy of the classic BW with just better screen resolutions but I personally have no problems with certain modernizations that make the game more enjoyable. and in my opinion reducing the amount of "basic tasks" and removing artificial obstacles opens more time for actual commanding the combat units and acting tactical on the map - which is what I as a player want to do and as a streamviewer want to see.

The only game engine "improvements" I'd be fine with (apart from better graphics) would be: removed keyboard lag and (gasp) automine. Manually having to juggle every worker is just poor design, and I say that as someone who was played this game since the 1990's and think it's the best game ever.
It almost certainly wasn't put in there deliberately, more likely out of neglect or because they envisaged the game to played off of 1 base, 2 base tops with a handful of workers making manual mining a non-issue. We already have partial automining when an SCV finishes a refinery – it starts mining gas with no input from the player.
In general though they should be very, very careful not to muck up anything seemingly insignificant (like pathing glitches) that in reality is a core feature of the game.

In Korean PC bangs, BW has 6 times more players than SC2. The ratio of BW:SC2 viewers is even higher.
But let us all pamper to SC2 players instead of hardcore BW fans. This is like pampering to American football fans to create a new football, while dismissing the whole world.

I think bug fixes like stuck units would be nice too. That's not a feature, it's clearly a bug. It's frustrating even to good players.
Maybe fix unit AI so they don't overshoot things, like scourge "Chinese triangle" as well. Sure, there's skill in it, but it makes ZvZ really stupid because there's no way to get back into it when you have a lower muta count. It also makes drops/vessels really strong in ZvT.
Or how about fixing "unit pops out of egg and disappears" bug that makes it harder to hold a ramp at your third in ZvT? Losing a lurker to it is really costly.

Fuck. This thread is being taken over by "I wouldn't mind if MBS and automine were implemented in BW" people. Abort mission. No further constructive discussion can happen here it will only be of potential detriment. If you play SC2, love automine and MBS and smartcasting, I am very happy for you. Foreigners have begun to win games against Koreans again, Blizzard is balancing your game, there is much content to see.
Please leave BW alone. Don't let them hear your wanton cries for debasement of this game. It is as it should be. Dumb AI, bad pathing, 12 units per hotkey, who would ever want to play this mess? Right guys? Please T_T;

Let us all forbid football players to do tricks. From now on, the Stepover, the Marseille turn, the Elastico, the Nutmeg, the Pele Flick, the Cruijff turn, the Seal dribble, the run around, the Rabona etc will be forbidden from the game. This new version of football HD will make it easier for newcomers to play, so that the game will focus only on tactics. You can from now on only kick the ball and run around. No nonsense tricks. Hence it will be closer to American football (also known as Football 2) with its emphasize on tactics instead of mechanics.
I mean football viewers today only admire these tricks and the extreme training from players who can perform these, but they should all focus on tactics instead. In my opinion these things must be changed in order for American football players like me to consider football HD a good game. In my opinion the World should just change these things so that we Americans can enjoy football HD.

Look at the mech threads in the SC2 section for an example.
"BW HD IS COMING OUT YAY! IT WILL BE ALL I EVER HOPED FOR AS A MODERN RTS PLAYER!" ... two hours later... "What do you mean there is no 16 : 9 or MBS?" ... one hour later... "Blizzard should patch this" ... one month later... "Why hasn't Blizzard put the HD in BW HD?" ... in that thread... "They expect us to play Brood War HD with no automine and smart casting? What a fucking joke, *RACE* OP"
etc.
|
Getting so tired of dogmatic people conflating the idea that BW is great with "the game is literally perfect and any change would be sacrilege and thunder will be struck from God". Try to view the ideas on an individual basis, not just dismissing them all as "SC2 people" when that's clearly not always the case. Actual SC2 people coming to give "advice" are just as annoying as dogmatic apologists of "features" like keyboard lag.
