Having already defeated Stats, Solar needed a second consecutive victory in order to fight for a chance at the SSL Premier title. Meanwhile ByuL looked to replicate his performance from week six of the round robin when he took down Solar without dropping a game. Solar started off with a 13gas/12pool on Frost. ByuL opened hatchery first, but was able to withstand the attack with banelings of his own. With both players on two bases, Solar went for a strong roach timing that was deflected by spine crawlers and mutalisks. From there ByuL controlled the game, eventually taking a 1-0 lead with roach/ravager. ByuL went for a 12 pool in game two. Just as it had for Solar, the aggression failed for ByuL, despite Solar’s more economic opener. When ByuL lost the pair of spine crawlers he was building in Solar’s main he conceded, evening the series. ByuL was the aggressor again in game three. This time his zergling rush off two hatcheries overwhelmed Solar’s roach opener, putting him ahead 2-1. Game four was a first as Solar and ByuL both opted for hatchery first builds on Newkirk Precinct, before transitioning into mutalisks on three bases. ByuL moved out first, but his mutalisks were caught out with inferior upgrades and completely wiped out. The misstep sent the match to a fifth game. ByuL eschewed a third base in favor of a faster lair in game five, but found no damage with his upgraded roaches. Meanwhile Solar had established himself on three bases and was pulling ahead in supply. Both players went into lurkers on four bases but it was Solar’s decision to nydus into ByuL’s main that ultimately won him the game. He killed ByuL’s hive, defended at home and dealt the final blow at ByuL’s fourth to take the match 3-2. After a pair of 3-2 victories, Solar will face off against INnoVation in a Bo7 with over 8,000 dollars and 1500 coveted WCS points going to the victor.

RIP liquibets streak. Also, BYUL, you were meant to be the chosen one ....

Ooof, congrats to Solar, but personally I preferred ByuL vs. INnoVation for pure entertainment value.

"Solar, first of his name, SSL Champion, Slayer of Liquibets."

I kinda expected him to win against stats but that was a BIG surprise. Now i have no idea where to put my liquibets in the final I think Inno would be the safe choice but it would feel...uncomfortable

Augh, such a hard choice. I went with ByuL but I figured it'd be 3-2. Solar just has those ZvZ chops when he so chooses.

Solar can defend his SSL title, back to back SSL champion would be something. Innovation might win his third starleague. Better stories than Byul winning his first imo, he is only the budget soO :/

crazy how close the competition is in the upper eschelon of sc2. Anybody can lose to anybody on a given day.

I don't understand why these news post never bother to post the actual tournament wiki link? Seems like it would be nice to be able to click on something to see the full bracket, players, upcoming dates, prize pool, access to vods, etc.

Solar is going to get smashed by Inno. Byul probably would have too though

Solar will get stomped if he tries to play straight-up against Inno so I expect him to pull out something unconventional. Unlike ByuL, Solar has a good amount of creativity as seen with his ZvT hydra/lurker build.
Solar did 2-1 Inno during the Round Robin matches, by relying on counterattacks and build counters. That said, while INnoVation's TvT might be lackluster, his TvZ is easily the best in the world and tricks only go so far in a Bo7.
Such a shame that we can't see ByuL's LBM against Inno's 4M, though.

It's impossible to beat InnoVation in a bo7 ZvT especially in a final. As i remember, the last time Inno lost to a Zerg in bo7 was 4 years ago, gsl final with SK, the biggest throw of all time. Inno for the 3rd Starleague titles
