Oh and how do you use Conrol for taking away AND adding units ?
Email send. I use Shift+Ctrl for setting camera positions.
In Hotkeys under Control groups, if you scroll down, there is a key named "add to control groups and take away units", that is how

+ Show Spoiler +I see control groups are made using variations of Alt+Shift+[j/p/;/etc] Do you use the entire bottom of your thumb; almost your palm, to hit both alt and shift? It seems very awkward to me.
Nvm.. I see the add/steal thing is meant to be used. >< Thanks!

Someone of you sent me your hotkeys and I tried them. But everytime i creat a Camera Location i create a CG.

Hi,
Completely new SC2 player here. I nearly don't know anything about the game. I did the tutorials and started the Terran campaign. I am using the standart layout. However, obviously I am not used to any hotkey layout yet and I thought it would be benefitial to just learn an optimized layout right from the start, as I don't have to unlearn anything.
That out of the way: all my "create location" hotkeys are unbound and I don't know what I should bind them to because, as it seems, any ctrl, alt and shift combination has been used already.
I am using a a logitech G910 keyboard with a Swiss layout. I have downloaded TheCore 3.0, Swiss, RRM. I don't know yet which race I will focus on yet, so I thought I should download the random version for now. (Any different suggestions here?)
Another problem I have encountered is, that it is nearly impossible for me to hit combinations such as alt+shift. Even when removing the keys between alt and ctrl, it is really uncomfortable and I am hitting other keys in the process. My hands are rather small and so is my thumb - maybe that is why. (Possible solution for this is to maybe bind this combination to a key on my mouse, since I have a few unused ones there - using the G502.)
I really like the idea of using the right side of my keyboard. The thumb-argument is really strong in my opinion. That is why I am not particularly interested in the lite version.

At the moment I'm experimenting the Ctl key on the mouse (forward button) to overcome the limitations related to the placement of the standard control key. I would not advice more my stuff

So if i have a qwerty keyboard without Alt Gr which file do I download? The faq says I must have downloaded the wrong one but the only good option is US qwerty. I don't understand.

JackieJJ: (I'm a long time Core user noob)
You probably will not have a lot to 'unlearn', if you ever played any strat game or any game with control groups, the standard setup will feel natural. as I see/feel it, The Core, while being a very nice idea (and I can only recommend switching to it), is not really a totally supported as it is now. With LotV released, Coops being introduced I felt I'm a bit on my own when I wanted to use Core. Which I don't mind at all, I downloaded a ZRM medium and added/changed quite a few things that was needed (new units/abilities in LotV, I switched to Core while playing the beta).
So I think you just might want to play the standard for a while, decide which race(s) you like the most, and maybe after that, switch to Core.
I'm not following the discussions here, but it seems the alt+shift and other hardly accessible things are there because you are not supposed to use that as it is, but it keeps the SC2 client options menu happy, because this way all functions have hotkeys.
I can tell you what I personally, a random dia noob use, and you do whatever you want with this information. I only (95%) use steal hotkeys, those are configured to my CTRL+* keys (*= OIULK.,098). Sometimes I fuck up and I use set hotkeys (old HotS style set hotkeys) with CTRL+SHIFT+*. I use ALT+* and SHIFT+* (*= OIKL098U) to save and recall camera locations. I do use the CTRL+(P,J) (set, recall) combo for some quick locations, in fact, I extended them to CTRL+{P-[} to set and CTRL+{JHN} to recall loc 6-7-8. I use ALT+' to center on selection.
So when a game starts I will ALT+' on my main base, ALT+O set it to loc 1. Then using the minimap, keeping the left button clicked, i add the next 3 locations using ALT+{IKL}. When I start to build a base there, I will select the building and ALT+' to center on it, then set it again to the centered location. I use CTRL+{P,J} for rally point, -.H and [,N for drop locations, but that's an area where I need to improve, I don't use them that much as it would be helpful.
Hope this helps. Core is great stuff.

I have the same problem as jotschgi10 i.e. German Keyboard with ALT+GR key... I am using the Core RRM 3.0.
Used F1 and so on for now to create the hotkeys but it SUCKS.
If anyone has any better Idea without drastically changing everything else I would love to hear from you.

@JWD[9]: How do you deal with creating controlgroups then if you use STRG+SHIFT for the Location keys?
P.S.: This is a new TL account since I do not have access to my old one (goldsteal) right now. Hopefully I can regain access to that in time...

French Canadian keyboard here. I just switch the keyboard to English when I launch Starcraft II. It works right away and the game adapts. In Windows, I set Ctrl+Shift+1 and +2 as French and English, respectively.

I'll be trying this out now. Thanks for the suggestion.
Edit:
So it works like a charm now. But one problem I do have with your suggestion as soon as I clicked on any building or unit in the Game I cannot create new camera hotkeys since using the ALT (in reality of course the ALTGR key) also seems to center on the selected unit.
How do you guys deal with that. Am I using TheCore wrong?
|
Great!
The camera center is normal, it's explained in one of the explanation videos. You need to press alt and keep it pressed while you move around setting the cameras. You only need this once per game normally. Then you can use that that key to quickly move your camera when you select certain units.
You can always remove the hotkey for it.

I think I found the video you referenced. Will keep it for now and spend my off day tomorrow practicing.

Is the core going to be updated for the new multiplayer changes?
|
TheCore hasn't really been updated for LotV completely and with these changes still open to dramatic changes, highly unlikely. You can however make the updates following the same logic and share it with everyone.
|
Where can i get the updated version of ZRM 2.0? I've stopped playing for a while and the file on Skydrive have missing keys. I can't complete my 2.0 since there are missing informations in the master spreadsheet too (LoTV is missing).
Or should i just switch to 3.0..

Hey,
i Play ZRM and have a huge Problem. I can´t delete a unit from my Control Group because of my new setting.. :/
Anyone a clue how to do this. Would be very helpful.

sacrifice one ctrl group for unused/removed units. for me (ZRM also) this is U. i just CTRL-U any units i don't need on ctrl groups anymore (patroling/scouting lings, whatever).

I am learning thecore 3.0 PRM. I find that pressing N and M with my little finger while sitting other fingers on home position feels pretty inconvenient. Such as building a portal gate, I have to press O+M, , since Protoss need to build portal gate very often, how you guys solve this problem? In addition, will you guys keeping on pressing O followed by M,or just press O, then leave O and finally press N?
|
@28
Don't try to force your other fingers to stay where they are! This is going to cause you unnecessary discomfort and cut into your endurance. Try to play with a more relaxed hand, if other fingers move when you move your primary finger(the one pressing the button) let them do whatever they do naturally, then return to the home position after the keypress.

How to fast drop/ carpet drop with rapid fire tech? Such as for PRM,we use "O" to drop, but "O" is not a key for rapid fire.
