The hand on the shoulder doesn't tell me anything since we lack context and audio. The punching doesn't look like a "joking" manner because you can see that his hands are clenched and by looking at his forearms you can clearly see that they are flexed.
... same .. i love sea i wanna protect him but this ... nah he lost rly my respect for this

Then all these trolls come out of the woodwork and start judging this great man, all these fatties, these fucking old guys who never got any with their jowls, coming on TV, absolutely reprehensible behavior, what kind of a public servant, his legacy is…
I fail to see anything of note happening. 1. Most of us here don't know what's been said or what's been done aside from 3 short gifs. 2. She could have switched seats if she was really uncomfortable (right after gif 2 for example). 3. The punches very much look like fake punches. 4. Reverse the genders, or make both of them a man. Do you think he would have been removed from ASL? Yeah.
Thanks for the laugh. I looked at the first 4 articles. 3 articles were written by people who spent one year in South Korea during their college years (Caroline Yarber, Zeena Starbuck, Michelle Kwon). 3 of them young women that seem to have recently graduated. Dare I say feminists (One even explicitly mentions rape culture and a pay gap in AMERICA LOL). 3 of them have no sources anywhere in the articles. Especially the first article, the one that was actually written by someone at least born in South Korea is purely anecdotal with zero listed sources.
Finally a country with a female president, led by a shadow-government consisting of "8 goddesses" with an independent ministry of "gender equality", sure sounds like they're a total patriarchy where men are just racking in the benefits.

1) at the end of the 2nd punch look at sea's left forearm. you can see the striations that is caused by hard flexing. that doesn't happen if you are "playfully hitting"
2) we lack context. if they were fake punches, why did someone who had the full context feel the need to reach over and grab his punching arm?
as far as those articles that women have it hard in korea..i'm not so sure I buy them. they are from very liberal sources and if you read or saw mainstream media in the USA u would think we were still subjugating women and enslaving blacks. i mean south korea's last president was female...sure, our last president was black which doesn't mean racism is eliminated, but I don't buy the notion that blacks are an oppressed group like mainstream media would have you believe. you want to know a place where women actually have it bad? saudi arabia

Damn that sucks. But at least there are 2 zergs to watch in round 1, but I was looking forward to a potential Larva vs Sea.

Domestic violence is unforgivable imo

Man, fuck you.
She's already on camera at a live-streamed event, likely trying to avoid drama like this. After the first drunken hand on the shoulder, she's worried about being seen as a bitch if she gets up and insists on moving around the table. It simply doesn't look good for women to make a huge deal out of things like this.
Those punches don't look like he's trying to knock her out, but it doesn't look like he's just joking around. He's struggling to sit up straight.
Very well deserved ban imo. What a prick.

I did not want to link academic papers or korean articles for someone who is interested in the general idea of what these cultural differences consist of from an outsiders perspective.
If someone is more interested, they can look for articles or ask for further links.
The first one is under the opinion category because it is an opinion.
On the bright side, it's good I got someone to laugh, this thread was getting quite sour over what's happened.

Hard to tell if those punches were real or not, wish we had a video instead of a gif. Doesnt look 100% fake either, so im assuming they were awkward because A) hes a nerd B) hes drunk as hell
very surprising to see sea do this, he always seemed like such a nice guy. He even posted on TL a bunch of times.

Wow, what an idiot.
Disappointing. Seemed like a cool dude when he was on Liquid.

im waiting for sea's stream to see/hear his reaction to the event Edit: im stupid... i have to wait 1 week because he is banned -.-

I personally find that you made a drama from nothing, this is a very normal reaction from a drunk person, I think that you can see this kind of scene in every bar in every part of the world... Maybe some persons can act normally even if they drunk, others not...

Ya I don't think so buddy. I've been to a million clubs/bars (this actually looks more like a restaurant) and someone would get their ass beat for "hitting" a woman like this. I write hitting like that because I'm not sure what those punches were supposed to be. Really shitty real ones would be my guess but I'm unsure.

There's uncensored gif of incident
While blurring on naver click bait article makes it seem a lot worse, it's still bad. Seas seems extremely grabby when drunk and I am surprised he lasted this long since he does tons of drunk stream with girls

Didn't Sea always have a reputation for going crazy when drinking?

Do you have a sister? How would you like if I made your sister so uncomfortable as this girl looks to be? Look the way she sits relaxed and how she tenses up after the first hit. You would think it was playful if I bothered and hit your little sister like that?

hmm, yeah the unblurred gif doesn't make it look as bad. after seeing this I can't really make up my mind. I don't condone hitting women but without being there, hearing what was said, experiencing the full context, I can't decide how playful the hitting was. I would be able to make a better decision if we were able to hear from the girl getting hit. Did she feel as though it was aggressive or playful? How hard were the punches? also, does anyone know what was said by the girl to prompt the hitting? I assume he didn't just decide to punch her for no reason out of the blue.
I'm leaning toward the opinion that the hitting was kind of douchey, but not as bad as full out domestic abuse where a guy beats the shit out his gf / wife. The grabiness isn't defendable imo. Once is fine but once she sends the clear message that it isn't wanted it isn't okay to keep trying...especially in that one gif where sea puts his arm around her, she removes his hand and sea slides his hand down and around her body. I'm really reluctant to use the word 'sexual harassment' but that is getting really close, if not already entering the realm of sexual harassment.
also...the girl in the black and white is a cutie!
