It's well shot (what a surprise at this point) and the acting is stellar as well. The script has noticeable problems which in the end doesn't hugely matter but in a few scenes it could make you question the situation enough to have a negative impact. Not the best south korean movie, still enjoyable to watch and it defintiely has scenes which you won't forget so fast. 7/10 I was rather underwhelmed by "I Saw the Devil" when I watched it. I saw it recommended at TL many times and it gotpretty good reviews. But somehow it just did not click for me. I guess I was expecting a similar masterpiece to the Vengeance trilogy by Park Chan-wook but I felt it did not reach that level. It was an entertaining movie but I will not rewatch it unless I have to. And if there was one thing that I would blame it on is the script/plot. I think 7/10 is a fair rating for it.

Yeah i kinda feel the same, i expected it to be around the level of Park Chan-Wook movies but it simply couldn't reach that. I still think it was a good movie though, especially the main actors do a really good job and there are scenes in there which are beautifully done. The script is a weakness though, i think working on it a bit more could have helped the movie overall. 7/10 means "good" in my eyes so i would watch it again But i don't think it is a must watch.

Like at one point it goes Will you marry me? And don't answer right now because I must leave and fly my helicopter into a volcano for business reasons. And then his helicopter is attacked and crashes. And then at the start of the next scene the guy just walks in and tells us that he got rescued and it's literally never mentioned again.

Which, nothing particular against fanfiction writers. Writing is writing. But most best-selling authors have to go through some level of grind before going from 0 to "immune to all editor input".

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance Another Park Chan-wook movie and they keep being pretty good. It's part of his vengeance trilogy (the movies stand on their own though, no connected storyline) and this one is fairly different from the more famous "Oldboy". I don't need to tell you guys again that Park is an excellent director, this movie delivers on all usual fronts. What makes it unique? The motivation of each character is fairly well developed, we are getting the pov of multiple sides in this one. Our main character is the deaf-mute Ryu who would do anything so save his sister who needs a new kindey as soon as possible. Not everything goes as planned though. As with other asian/korean movies the script has a few weaknesses here and there imo. Nothing too major though. The pacing of this one might be a bit slow for people who expect the usual pacing for this genre but i think it is worth it. Give it a try! 8/10

I guess it was just that i noticed i haven't seen a lot of these other than Oldboy and i kinda enjoy the korean movies a lot. Though i guess i should watch some other stuff in between

10/10 This movie is easily one of the best from 2016. It is just so incredibly well made. The plot is very human and has a lot of elements to it: family values, patriotism, sports, dream, female struggles but it never felt like they were forced at any point and none would make you feel it dragged the points.

How come they still get funding? It's totally unwatchable. Just stupid shit being thrown at you all the time, bad jokes everywhere, plotholes and all... Also, the last 30 minutes or so were done in typical Michael Bay fashion: action for the sake of action (I had to fast forward through it because it was unbearable). 0/10 - This movie does not have a single redeeming quality. I feel sorry that Anthony Hopkins will now be associated with it, he did what he could, but even he couldn't pull this pile of garbage up to 1/10.

Man, what a movie. Audiences without the training/inclination to want to unpack this movie will be confused and probably IMMENSELY dissatisfied. This movie is laden with so much fucking symbolism to work through, if you want to take this movie literally you will be very disoriented, ESPECIALLY when acts 2 and 3 get rolling. If you're like me, you may enjoy unraveling this movie. I normally HATE pretentious art-y shit, but man, this movie does the pleasure of really presenting itself as intentional, everything seems chosen so carefully, I won't specify what, but the movie does weird things that you won't REALLY think about unless you're trying to notice, but obviously MEAN something because they're so unusual. For the conventional audience this movie must be a straight 1-2/10, if you're inclined to watch a movie drenched in symbolism and artistic motivation and enjoy solving the myriad puzzles and questions contained in this movie, I give this an 8-9/10, because its obtuse, but not in such a way to make unpacking it impossible, just difficult, and maybe not even that should you have a proper background in understanding cinema and art and symbolism. Its not a fucking horror movie though, so if you're wanting to be scared, this is super not the movie for you. Fuck I'm not gonna be able to stop thinking about this movie for a while.

What Happened to Monday I have thoroughly enjoyed this dystopian future movie. Was totally not what I expected (although wasn't as surprising for me as creators probably wanted it to be - but I get that a lot since I've seen so many movies and read so many books). Definitely recommended.

Also just watched this! It's pretty good... It's so much better than the crap we get nowadays, which also makes it hard to gauge how good it really was... I'm gonna start watching more Aamir Khan movies. I've already seen this one, 3 idiots , and ghajini

As such the film takes a linguistic approach rather than the cookie cutter physics approach and that was quite refreshing. All the violent escalation was 100% caused by human failure of diplomacy rather than the aliens which, again, I found very realistic. Basically the whole movie made me go like yup sounds like something we would do. Good stuff.

1970 M*A*S*H* 8/10 it was interesting to see how Americans viewed Korea in 1970. the consensus of my (medical) family is that M*A*S*H* is a lot closer to what its like to work in a real hospital. As opposed to stuff like ER amd Grey's Anatomy.

Definitely recommended. I thought it was okay, in the way that I enjoy alot of dystopian stuff, but it was leagues behind the best films of this nature. The world wasn't particularly well thought out, although the premise was pretty good but it didn't seem to properly follow through with it in my opinion. The acting was good (although there will naturally be comparisons to Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black who has much more time to develop personalities for the sisters) and some of the elements of design were pretty good too but it was mostly forgettable. 6/10
