nothing against the guy, but a rogue kind of guy would never have won in the past, while soO is special.
that is completely your opinion. Rogue is plenty special to me
Seriously. People need to look at Rogue's 2016 results and realize how far he has come and how amazing this run was.
oh my god dude who cares about that 2016 and 17 have been a sham compared to sc2 of the past.
soO and TY are different almost qualitatively from Rogue. Shame the hot streak lasted this long.
the only thing different about them is that they had fans in bw but Rogue was one of the hottest players coming into the tournament off the back of the super tournament win. soO has had long streaks of terrible matchups this year. Form is everything and Rogue came into the tournament with top 2 form
Rogue was also great in SPL, I always had him on my FPL team and it pretty much always paid off. It's not like he did nothing before this year.
Tons of ro8s in GSL too back then.
Rogue was a middle class never-going-to-be-a-champion player bar a super nice event where everything clicks. Now the pool allows him to win.
I'm glad we can magically decide players are never worthy of winning a championship .
Oh come on you know what I mean. For most players, the first few seasons kind of tell you their potential to actually make something happen. It's rare to sit in a mediocre position for a large period of time and then suddenly become consistently a contender. The easiest case to refer to is from dota with the VP roster with illidan and lil/fng. Great squad, but never a true contender.

this is Barry Bonds all over again. Rogue is doping

Sad day indeed. For soO, I can only imagine how terrible he must feel.

broodwar had many players who were only "middle class" and then became champions and frequent title contenders... You do know that at the highest level it's usually only nerves that are the difference?

Was maybe.
Now he is the best zerg there is and incredibly hard working. The players he beat recently are exactly the players who were the greats in your "best era of sc2". Innovation, soO, herO, TY, Maru, Dear... or are all those players also players who couldn't do shit when the player pool was deeper back then?
Musicus, do you really think your argument about him beating them in this lower skill period holds any relevance when I talk about stuff in the past? All of those guys won tournaments when there was a larger pool of players/high level competition.
He might have changed, but my old view of him still lingers since I haven't watched enough these past two years to have an opinion that is relevant to respond to, lol.
I would love to be happy for Rogue atm because i really like him as a player, but i simply cannot right now. TY losing was already tough, but man soO losing and getting 2nd again is just heartbreaking. Reminds me so much of 2013 when my favorite player ever lost in the finals, just emotional emptyness right now :/ I hope soO can bounce back from this, just like he did time and time again, that's exactly why i am a fan of him in the first place. He never gave up even if it was tempting. FIGHTING!

I would agree with them becoming champions, but actually carry on and become more than a one hit wonder. Most turn out the same way as Sniper, Roro and the like.
ok we hit over 100 pages this thread was a success and we all contributed towards restoring starcraft's rightful spot at the top of the esports hierarchy
