Giving Qikz control of the map pool could be what puts the nail in StarCraft Remastered's coffin.

An attempt at objectively identifying the differences between BW and SC2 game design-wise by Brownbear and Thorin (a rather big esports personality, ~250k YT subs, but mainly a CS/LoL guy). Why are the games different, why were they made that way, what divides the communities.
brownbear opened with smtg along the lines of "bw is mechanical with some strategy, sc2 is strategy with some mechanics", its not true, bw has both more mechanics and strategy, it's obvious if you play both this has been talked about since SC2 came out. some ppl tried arguing that reducing mechanics would improve strategy. it's not true. SC2 mostly is a simplified, more easily accessible game, and starcraft 1 is the harder, more complex and competitive game, it just takes a lot more skill. Not just because its mechanically harder, but because of the overall picture, better design, etc.
matchmaker for me doesn't really give satisfaction now, europe server seems almost dead, most of the time searching for game it doesn't find one like half the time or something, I'm not sure I'm gonna keep playing most people seem to be gone feels like next time I may try iccup instead lol, it will feel good running slick 1.16. iccup even with low population was much more handy to find games..

lol, there is more people on europe at every time of the day than it was on Iccup at any moment in the last 5 years or so
maybe at peak time but rest of the day its around 100-200 ppl connected or less? anyway the automatchmaker only finds games if... you are at the right mmr range maybe, half the time when I connect it won't find me a game. seems that custom games ladder with channel works better on low pop, idk anyway it doesnt rly do it for me right now I guess (just tried again, estimated time 59s, I wait a little longer than twice the amount, no game, half the time like this maybe more) (220~ ppl online, iccup always had a few hundreds i think)

yeah idk why it doesnt work like that, not good for me i made a new account, long time to get games (or, can't get a game, try later, half the time), boring actually I made several new accounts try to connect to other gateways see if it helps, but not that much I guess you have to be in the right mmr range where there are many active players idk

Wrong.
Europe right now has 234 players online. And these numbers are commonplace.
During weekends iCCup would routinely hit 400 players.

I think it is key to see how many games are being played. A couple of days ago I was online from morning until evening, yet the number of games being played did not go above 100 despite there being a steady rise in total number of players online.

Doesn't surprise me that people here wouldn't understand where brownbear is coming from. People here already have their clear narrative. Could be said about thorin as well though, he didn't really seem interested in design talk, a lot of the questions were phrased in a way to come to the conclusion that bw > sc2. But i guess he at least admitted that he is no authority on it and that he prefers bw, so maybe i am a bit unfair with that criticism.
Windowed Fullscreen works again (it was working before the last patch then got broken), but now my game is crashing randomly with no error message. Blizzard is already on it though:
---------------------------------- Greetings,
This is unrelated to our patch. We have identified the issue and should have a fix within 3-4 hours. Thank you for your patience.

it's not a narrative though, it's experience^^ not sure that brownbear has much bw experience i'm not going into that video again to detail but yeah there was a consistent.. well narrative by brownbear, it's a story, it's not reality and it doesn't actually compare the two games together. When he describes the tactical movement of SC2, he fails to explain how these also exist in bw but are more varied and more numerous in bw for example.

so what do you think of the activity on europe server? good to play on, or better move elsewhere? I was considering just playing on us west. For custom games it seems good. Still don't know if it would give better results with auto matchmaker, only tried very few times.
