Jiren's just fucking around after all so power scaling doesn't matter.
Though, I agree on the Frieza moment. He should've not been used yet. Seems like next episode is the typical Vegeta get's smacked around episode before it's GOKU-time.
He blew himself up to negate the attack
I realize that I didn't write down my thoughts in such a way that it's not ambiguous whether or not I understood what the plot unraveling before me was. I did. What I was questioning is why the writers went for this ending for 17. They could've simply written a scenario where 17 would've been blasted off the stage without having to self destruct. This attempt at drama is simply meh.

Gripe in this episode for me is the spoiler in the preview. We knew that was coming anyway, but there was still some hope and anticipation.
I always understood the androids as being powered by something like atomic energy, mostly because that's the only way you could generate practically endless energy like they do. But I don't think they're generally able to dispatch energy blasts of infinite power, more like it just never runs out, but they still have their limits built-in. Also, we don't know how strong Jiren is at full power, from all we know he steadily outclasses even GoD's right now, and so the force of the blast he canceled was legitimately massive. I think he did ok. Buuuut maybe I'm overthinking. :p

I just assume they generate X amount of usable energy per second with extreme consistency no matter how tired they may be.

17 shouldn't have interrupted Jiren's story early. Maybe he could've timed him out or get Goku and Vegeta more rest time if he let Jiren talk more.

You're both right, guys, I was being cheeky. I'm sure there must be some kind of embedded limit preventing androids from emitting close to infinity energy for X seconds - otherwise they'd be as broken as Jiren. Anyway, anytime I find myself overthinking the thermodynamics of DragonBall, it's time to pause and reflect

Next on DragonBall Super : Jiren's Psychoanalysis - Frieza brings the couch ! Don't miss it ! More seriously, there's a conspiracy theory making the rounds that Jiren's 'evildoer' is in fact Belmod himself. It's a bit out there and yet meshes well with previous cryptic comments like 'Jiren is a being who will never lose'. That would make Jiren's character's mega-badass, and open up a ton of possibilities.

I saw somewhere thay the android having unlimited "energy" is a miss translation, in japanese it's more clear that they have ulimited stamina but not unlimited strenght

Doing thermodynamics on DBZ is probably about the most fruitless effort one could imagine. I remember years ago an argument I read online about how ki power violates conservation of energy. It was... something.

Personally I think ki power is just a consequence of how much Saiyans eat.
I mean, we haven't seen Jiren's restaurant bill yet.

I enjoyed the episode, although I agree with the general sentiment that Frieza still being around seems dumb. He literally just got one shot out of his golden form this episode, so I have no idea why the writers won't just write him out of the tourney. 17 had a decent ending, but I kind of wish they didn't kill him off since we all know he will just get revived anyway if U7 wins
Animation was meh. The good news is that it might be due to them working hard on making the last few eps amazing. At least that's my hope.

If they put in the work to make the special ep where Goku gets UI as awesome as it was, and don't put in a similar effort with the final battle, I'm gonna be disappointed. This is what we trudged through so much filler for. And I might just forgive them, if Goku actually gets to win something this time.

To me this was the worst episode in a long time. But at this point I just hope there's a satisfying conclusion to be found.

Tragic episode. Just so bad. Killing 17 made no sense. Jiren's backstory being Batman is only acceptable if it turns out Belmond killed his race in fear they'd be too powerful and the u11 angel saved Jiren in hopes of having a stronger GoD. They have a chance and giving jiren a good story, but I'm very worried about the ending of this now.
My friend and I are rewriting the arc. Android 17 sneakily causes Jiren to kill him earlier. The final fight ends up being Kefla and Goku. The tournament is ended by that amazing fight instead.

Honestly, this wasn't too bad an episode. I chuckled at the freiza thing. Sure, it's silly that he hasn't been knocked out yet but what happened was true to Freiza's character 100%. He's the kind of individual that would do this over and over again and thinks highly of himself.
I think it's a good thing that 17 eventually lost. Maybe getting him to detonate was a bit much but he was nowhere near as powerful as some of the other fighters who lost so early on so better late than never. Vegeta powering up right after that huge final blast last episode was silly. Just gonna chuck it to DBS logic.
Hopefully, they give Vegeta a decent episode next time before he goes out.

17 seemed to definitely be the next strongest besides Goku and Vegeta. It's just that Goku and Vegeta are insanely op.

That's complete bs. Mystic Gohan would kick his ass in a heartbeat even if he's out of shape! I don't buy it at all but logic never made sense in DBS anyways.

So, you actually bought that crap about 17 being able to somewhat match Goku? That whole arc with Goku testing everyone was stupid as hell.
|
17 did better against Toppo than Gohan as well (although Gohan's fight against Toppo was brief). Dunno Gohan's not even close to blue imo.
Do I think 17 is at SSB level? From what they've shown he's gotta be close to it. I'm kinda surprised at how much hate this episode is getting, I thought it was really good but oh well I am also easier to please on a show than most people.
