They always seem good whether or not mutas are coming and so I'm not quite sure if there is a time I should not make them. For example, if I see mass hydra with my first sair and they will be soon at my expo, I should cut sairs in this case? Then after I beat it back, I start sair production again? But if he did hydra all in, isn't it just better to mass gates and go counter with speedlots and hts? Basically, what tells you to squeeze in sairs or disregard them? I would make sairs every time you can afford them. Unfortunately, most of the time you CANNOT afford them. Like the situation above: making extra sairs will make you die because you don't have enough cannons. Or when you're trying to take a third and the zerg can just kill it if you don't have a bunch of storms ready

Can someone tell me what I should be doing the moment I am sure I cannot die to the hydras? Do I put up a bunch of gates and attack with mass zealots asap? Or do I bide my time even further and wait for goons? I want to punish the zerg for the hydra all in, but I don't know how to take advantage of his weakness if his rush fails. This is low level PvZ, like 1200 MMR PvZ. Is there a strategy that I can practice and that is decent at my level?

You keep your zealots back and mass cannons. I feel like after watching the pros, I should be ahead and I should be able to run amok once I break out. But I am not sure how to take advantage of this situation. I feel like when I do break out, it is just barely and I am not ahead. The zerg has a 4th base and I am just on my 2nd. I m only 1700 ish so I d like to have a better answer from better players but usually after I defend I try to counter asap while taking a 3rd. I just use zealots (and ht if any) and go poke the zerg's natural. If there is no simcity you can usually just end the game there, or force him to keep making hydras, further slowing him down. Keep the pressure up while fortifying your 3rd. If he has good building placement try to go for his 3rd if he has any. Make a dt to patrol and kill his attempted 4th. Build goons and attack once you can chip at his wall. There are times I die later in the game but I feel it s mostly because I give the z too much time to rebuild his economy.

I am wondering if there is a good gateway balance so I can quickly use zealots to punish the zerg.

I'd like to read some material that helps me ascertain the situation and initiate the correct counter-play based on what I scout with my probe or 1st sair. E.g. how to react when the enemy goes fast lurker, ling all in, 2 base hydra, 3 base hydra, after seeing gas count, etc. Basically a tell all guide. Is there something like this? I have found a lot of info scattered here and there, but it would be nice if there was a cohesive guide. Do you know those? and the others videos next to it are dedicated to PvZ and it was a great help to me (especially on when to pressure, I used to be very very passive early on) they are all well made.

Is maelstrom viable against zerg when you have tons of DTs available? it freezes the enemy and they can't attack you? but instead of DTs, is the more standard route to go mass archons with reavers? archons are strong against ultras? I know reavers are good, but they are kinda hard to use. That's why I've been relying on Sair/DT. But this is easy to counter.

yes archons are really strong vs ultras. the best way would be to focus on adding in reavers, as you could even improve that easily by speedshuttle reaver harass, once you get better at it. ultralisks mainly tank damage of zealots/storm. just having a big archon/goon/ht ball makes it extremly hard for a ultralisk player to engage because they die quickly. against ultra/hydra, use your storm against the hydras. what if he uses defilers and swarms everything? retreat + storm kills soooo much because of a-move AI clumping up. and archon/reaver simply own under swarm edit: just mass archons, way easier and better than babysitting cors/dt
