You have a very reasonable argument, but it's inherently flawed:
It's Zoro and it's One Piece...! Mr. Bushido fits right in Wano!!

Yeah true. He fits the role perfectly. Just that he has no skills useful to society does not. Btw hedgeknights don't exist in european history. Not in the way you think certainly. Just so you know.

A Hedge Knight was a real thing. However, you have to look a bit deeper into the terminology.
First off, a hedge knight is a derogatory term. The more romantic and correct term would be Knight Errant. Errant means wandering, or roving. Which would mean a knight wandering around seeking adventures to prove his chivalry, taking part in tourneys, etc.

Your wiki link writes:
"In medieval Europe, knight-errantry existed only in literature, although many fictional works from this time period present themselves as historical non-fiction"
That thing you put in quotes? Not from your link at all.
I'm not really that emotionally invested in arguing the point, but if you are going to make up quotes for your links, I'm definitely not interesting in talking to you.

O:
We're talking about works of fiction that derive their settings from popular depictions of historical fantasy. We read these epics because they're fun and romantic not for educational value. It's fun to notice where the authors' inspirations come from.
I don't see why you're picking a fight with me!!

Come on, that debate has long been settled. This is just the Enel thread now.

Ok cheosoyunb, you can carry on beleiving that hedgeknights are a real thing in european history; you can have fun making up your own fantasy world, just don't pretend it is the same thing as fact. There really isn't any need to make up a quote from your wiki-link, the same wiki that directly contradicts you, I don't particularily care to argue against someone who makes up shit.

o: i just copy pasted from quora about hedgeknights
|
On the topic of copy pasting, can't we talk about Mashima's new, even more blantant than usual, rehashing of character concepts in Edens Zero? You'd think he'd become less lazy with the copy pasting after Fairy Tail got as popular as it did, but it seems he went in the other direction. The man has no shame.

Quora is a shitfest anyways. Anybody is free to make up anything they like and popular myths are popularised there. Hedgeknights don't exist in European history. This is the truth. You first placed a link that contradicts you, then attributed a quote directly after, erroneously or not; for if in mistake, you did not own up to it, and if on purpose, you tried to hide it; then pretended you are just talking about fiction, as if Europe is a fiction. Either way, hedgeknights don't exist in European history.

for someone really disinterested in fighting with me you seem really interested with fighting with me.
i'm not interested in making myself the winner and yourself the loser in a fight over nothing.
the concept of a warrior with no fealty to one master is something that's familiar in japanese works, it's also a concept familiar in european works.
i like reading one piece, and i like how oda references many real life cultures, including popular cultures, outside of the typical scope of his genre.
i'm not really interested in debating whether fictional works are depicted as historically accurate, because that's not why most of us derive pleasure from them.
it's also a pointless argument to have, as myth has always had a place in history. there's a reason why the concept exists and is familiar in our collective minds, because we choose to romanticize them.
which makes it perfect for one piece!
