I think you can probably build a tier 1 deck for under $100. Aside from all the dual lands, what are some of the staples worth getting? (I played mostly midrange/control decks back in the day). i played the closed beta from april until last week. i didnt spend a single dime and managed to get 5 tier 1 decks. 5 tier 2 and some brew decks....

Boros is a close second, but a good deck centered on either of those archetypes just feels too much like the best. If you're talking about prerelease, remember that the seeded packs change things a lot. The set is definitely not designed with that extra pack in mind....

You don’t need to go infinite in limited... not sure offhand if you even can. Yes you can. It's hard to do it consistently though unless you're really good (think you need to maintain a 60-70% win ratio to go infinite).

I will try to play basically f2p, but I went ahead and got the welcome bundle for 5 bucks. What should I spend the 2500 gems on. 3 drafts or sealed? I don't really have a specific deck in mind yet, just wanna extend my collection.

Got lucky today and was able to play 3 times after going 6-3 twice in a row. Yeah I don't think I will get 6 wins now. I wanna do it, but I'll wait a bit longer.

Some events cost gold to enter, some gems. Some reward with gold, other with gems. Depend on what you're looking to play.

So if you are really good at draft you can farm your gems there and then play sealed or whatever you want with the gems your earned. Sadly I only managed 2 wins in draft so far, I am just bad at it I guess, but I feel I also got a bit unlucky Edit: Ok, actually got lucky and managed 6 wins just now.

What's a good place to look up/study the current meta decks? I'm already starting to run into a lot of net decks and it's getting hard to win games.

I think sealed might be mathematically better value and I seem to get consistent 4+ wins in that format. What's a good place to look up/study the current meta decks? I'm already starting to run into a lot of net decks and it's getting hard to win games. https://www.mtggoldfish.com https://aetherhub.com/ Both seem good. Meta seems to be White/Red aggro dominated. I can't build any of those decks, so I just build my own with whatever I have. Quick play is just for quests and fun for me, I want to get good in limited instead. Somehow managed to build a black/white life gain deck that went 4-0 in quick play so far.

This means that the decks that aren't figured out yet or have more options for main deck choices can appear more frequently than decks that are figured out. Decks like Mono Blue tempo and Mono red aggro are pretty hard to come up with 20 different cards, so they dont appear as often as the W/R decks but I assure you they are performing well. Mono Red is being played by the mtgo trophy leader as of last night for instance. for example the distribution at 5-0 can be (im exaggerating for effect here) 50 mono red 30 UW control 15 Selesneya Tokens 1 Boros Angels 1 Boros Tokens 1 Boros Knights 1 Boros Aggro but you see, 4 boros decks, 1 UW, 1 Selsneya Midrange, 1 Selesneya Toklens and 1 Mono red on goldfish When i grinded MTGO in 2010-2012 we used to get every deck that went 3-1 or better and metagame was way easier to assess . Anyways, some helpful info if you guys don't know. If you do than w/e .

Don't you run out of gems after a while? if you just play purely with gems you need a winrate over 70 % to go infinite which is in Best-of-One formats almost impossible. you either need a good chunk of luck or one bad opponent after the other. good thing is most people on arena are horrible players compared to people you face in MTGO which means if you play well you can surely play a while without buying new gems. or you don't...thats just how BO1 in magic works, its shit. sometimes you lose purely because your opponent was on the play. sometimes you lose because you drew a few lands too many even though you play the correct amount for your deck. the only solution is playing competitive draft which is BO3. downside is the the value you get ouut of it compared to BO1 draft is shit and its supper expensive to get into it in the first place. wizards fucked that up good and i hope they will change it in the future.

Does this mean I'm forced to paying for sealed/drafts once I use up all the gems? Kinda confused about the economy... Only some. I believe Competitive draft and sealed are the only events that require Gems. All of the others you should be able to pay gold on.
