hey guys im a noob when it comes to shooters, but ive got a fairly decent computer and was wondering which of the following games you recommend? I thought about getting either farcry 2, fallout 3, crysis or masseffect. my windows xp computer consists of an athlon 5200 2,4gb duo processor, nvidia 8600gtx graphix card and 2gb ram.
Do any of those games stand out, or is there some other game, i didnt mention, i should buy

I will tell you about Mass Effect: Overall it's a good game with a nice story line but it just doesn't stand out. Doing the main quests is fun but you also have the option of doing side quests which are basically all and I mean ALL the same. Land on a planet with your spaceship, go out with a jeep-like car and ride around the countryside killing Geths -.-. The game world is HUGE but it is badly developed(bland) aside from the main quest line. The immersion level is good, the length of the game is good, the fight sequences are good, but sometimes way too hard. Once you figure out what skills to spec it basically becomes a 5-button masher game. Your companions are useful (well most of them are... but I always took the same 2 on every mission I went on, partly because of my Class and the synergy with them.) They sometimes do stupid things like block your way inside, run randomly into melee fights when they are supposed to fight ranged, and are there generally to be your meat-shields and sometimes helpers if you can't fight with certain types of weapons. The weapons are generally balanced leaving you with the choice of powers to use which makes all the difference in the world really. Their characters are developed, there are love interests if you want to go that far with them, when you take them with you they start talking randomly to each other, if you want to get all their personal info and their backstory/past there is enough time to do all of them really.
The terrain differs with every planet you go to; some are plain flat melting lava planets others are ghey grasslands mountainous maps with ridiculously close huge high mountains which make you want to kill yourself trying to get over them. I naturally went to all the planets in every system and did all the side quests.
The graphics are good.
This game is made by the guys that made Knights of the Old Republic I. I played KOTOR I and this game left me strangely unsatisfied(maybe even a little craving for more?). It seemed finished but not as polished as KotOR I, with the side quests that actually had a meaning. Very few bugs that I could find and none that were game breaking. There is really only 1 ending but it makes a difference if you decide to roleplay a Paragon type of hero or a Renegade. With all the side quests I'd say it's a solid 3 day play/grind.
If you have any questions about MassEffect PM me and I will try to answer them.

you don't even have to think about buying fallout 3, just do it! it would be embarassing if you'd regret it...

fallout 3 is the way to go

if you haven't bought the orange box yet, do it. The half-life 2 series is fantastic, portal is great and team fortress 2 is fun as hell.

Absolutely. And it's like 30$ now. TF2 is such a great game

What about it sucks? What parts of the game were soo bad to give it an overall "it sucks" rating? Im curious, because I found it to be a very nice game, with a fair amount of depth and replayability.

go for fallout 3, it's completely awesome. one of the best games ever =o I'd also prolly pick the witcher over mass effect, but mass effect is also a pretty good game.
edit : like some other posters mentioned, the orange box is by far the best value for your money. so go buy the orange box for $50 or whatever, and you'll get like 5 awesome games.. plus tf2 is super fun and easy to play online.

if you want to see how good anything will look on your computer while pushing it to the max, get crysis. It's also kind of a fun game to play as well.
Also, I second the orange box suggestion.

bioshock or dead space (may not be out for PC yet).
also Portal.

its been out for a while now

Fallout 3 and Orange Box EZ
CoD4 is horrible (but fun!) CoD5 will be horrible (but the beta was fun!)

Of the ones you listed, Crysis is the best shooter (fallout 3 doesn't even really count as a shooter), but Far Cry 2 will probably run better on your PC.

don't waste your money on cod5. it's console-optimized garbage

How can you pick anything but Fallout 3? That game is the most bad ass thing to have ever been created. Who ever doesn't get enjoyment out of that game needs to grow some balls.
