I am sure many people have seen this story, it actually happened like 40 minutes away from where I live. But I couldn't find the post in the general tab as I skimmed through the recent entries. But here it goes:
"Man accused of wife's beheading appears in court (CNN) -- A Buffalo, New York-area man accused of beheading his estranged wife made his first appearance in court Wednesday to face murder charges, according to CNN affiliate WKBW. Muzzammil Hassan has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Aasiya Zubair Hassan.
Muzzammil Hassan has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Aasiya Zubair Hassan.
Muzzammil Hassan, 44, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 37-year-old wife, Aasiya Zubair Hassan, days after she filed for divorce and was granted a restraining order against him.
In court Wednesday, Hassan waived his right to a felony hearing, WKBW said. The case will go before a grand jury. In the meantime, Hassan will be jailed without bail.
If convicted, he faces a sentence of 15 years to life, WKBW reported, citing prosecutors.
Muzzammil Hassan went to the police station in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park on Thursday and told officers that his wife was dead, authorities have said. He also led them to her body at the offices of Bridges TV.
The couple began the network in 2004 to counter negative Muslim stereotypes; Muzzammil Hassan is its chief executive officer, and Aasiya Hassan was general manager.
Aasiya Hassan filed for divorce February 6, police said, and Muzzammil Hassan was served with divorce papers at the station. That night, he showed up at the couple's home, she notified authorities, and he was served with a restraining order. Police had responded to several domestic violence calls at the couple's address, but no one was arrested, Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz said Tuesday. However, two women claiming to be Aasiya Hassan's sisters -- one in Pakistan and one in South Africa -- told reporters and posted in a blog that she lived in fear of him.
Bridges TV released a statement Monday saying its staff members were "deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of Aasiya Hassan and the subsequent arrest of Muzzammil Hassan. Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victim."
Are you serious? How is beheading your wife only second degree murder? She filed a restraining order on him so it wasn't spur of the moment. He had to go out of his way, find the necessary materials than confront her. The saddest thing is there isn't very much coverage regarding this. The thing that strikes me the most is the irony of this case. This man was trying to counter the negative stereo types of Muslims in the United States following 9/11. Way to represent man.. way to represent. Anyways, enjoy all and discuss.

Why is the fact that he is Muslim mean anything? People behead others all the time
Edit: It's almost as if you're assuming that the barbaric practice of beheading people is something Muslims do. Wouldn't 'Man beheads wife' make an equally acceptable thread title?

Yeah, it's so common now to see people doing these kind of stupid shit.
Done that, seen that, been there.
Fuck the world, we are doomed.
|
2nd Degree most likely because he confessed and lead the police to the body. In the end though he will get a life sentence so its not like the charges will make a difference where he ends up.
|
Err.. girls, don't marry the wrong guy.
|
In case you guys didn't read through the whole thing, this is pretty noteworthy since the murderer made a TV network to promote a better image of Muslims. Oops.
|
The amount of craziness it would take to behead someone is beyond me.
|
Lots of beheadings nowadays.

No no, I read it wrong. It's that you can get 15 to life, I misread it.
But the possibility of only getting 15 years is pretty absurd.

he didnt admit it. also, the wife just wanted a divorce. how many stories in the US do u hear about some husband beheading their wife cuz they want a divorce? please read the whole post

yup, even up north here in Canada, after the greyhound bus incident they were forced to change their slogan. From "Go Greyhound and leave the driving to us" to "Where ya be headin?"

Muslims use beheading as common execution technique.

This is what I was thinking, it is so unimportant that he is Muslim but everybody will blow this out of proportion and say "OMG MUSLIM BEHEADS WIFE THAT MUST MEAN MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS"
The story should read "Man beheads his wife" it's ridiculous that they add in Muslim.

15 years in jail is a long long long long time :/

I don't understand how this is 2nd degree murder, did he not do it himself?

if he was charged with 2nd degree murder it means the cops don't believe that he planned to kill her. it still means of course that he did do it
