Rough translation/summary:
In order to defend the new Real-ID feature for BNet 2.0, community manager Bashiok posted his real name on the SC2 forums. Within minutes users were able to get information not only on his CV, but his telephone number, address, age and preferences as well. In addition, they were able to publish his wifes name, that of his cohabitants and the name of his childrens school.
To top it of they found a picture of his house via Google Street View.
Bashiok has already canceled his twitter account.

This is why you do not anger the hive mind.

This is irony at its best
However the link does not work for me.
|
lolz i bet mr. bashiok feels superb about this ;P
|
Damn.... Atleast that showed Blizzard that the Real-ID feature is a bad thing.
|
Oh my god, thats terrible... both blizzard and the people who screwed Bashik over.
|

This. Ten thousand times this.
This change is like hitting a wasp nest with a baseball bat.

Feel really bad for bashiok... He's just a forum moderator and i doubt he had anything to do with the decision, really sucks that he was the one the community used to 'prove a point'...
|
Ouch, if this is real then it's one of the funniest backfire moments I've heard about.
edit: actually after seeing that forum post, I wouldn't call this a backfire at all, he wasn't really trying to prove anything.

1) It proved that you could easily find a person's personal information given their name
2) It proves that people can and WILL use that personal information to harass others.
It proves exactly why Real ID is such a terrible idea. I feel sorry for the guy but he kind of put himself up for slaughter with this one.

He responded when people started posting the info in the main WoW thread for it.
"I should point out that showing a real first and last name doesn't provide any one the right to then seek out additional information on that name and post it here. That has been and will continue to be a violation of the forum code of conduct, and so bans and what have you are incoming. Fair warning."
Raged hard.

Think some people are misinterpreting Bashiok.
He posted his name onto the forums to try and PROVE that no one could figure out his personal info. At least that's what I figured out from reading the OP.
