Another Blizzard patch and another set of replays rendered unwatchable unless you take some special steps.
The Problem: Since the latest patches in Phase 2 beta when you try to relaunch the client to watch v0.20 or v0.19 replays the game screen just goes black.
The Solution: 1. Go to the directory where you have StarCraft II installed. 2. Look in the folder \Support and make a shortcut to the file SC2Switcher.exe somewhere you can access it easily like your desktop 3. Look for the folder \Versions. You need to rename the folders for versions that are newer than the replay you want to watch.
In the picture above I want to watch a v0.20 replay so I have renamed the folder for v.021 from \Base16094 to \XXXBase16094. If I was watching a v0.19 replay I would also rename the folder \Base16036 to \XXXBase16036. It doesn't matter what you change it to - just make it change in a simple way that you can easily revert. 4. To watch a replay drag it to the SC2Switcher icon you created in Step 2.
When you want to play online again rename the folder(s) back to their original names.
WARNING: When you exit the replay the game will try to patch itself. I use ZoneAlarm firewall so I just set it to block access to the internet for the version of SC2.exe that sits in the \Base15976 and \Base16036 folders but you could also unplug your net or just closer the patcher as soon as it starts up

Edit in XXX
to watch a v0.20 replay so I have renamed the folder for v.021 from \Base16094 to \XXXBase16094

To avoid having to block or disconnect your internet, when you're done viewing a replay, instead of pressing the DONE button just hit ALT+F4. You will get an in game popup window asking if you wish to exit SC2. Hit yes, and the game will exit without trying to connect to internet/patch.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In order for this to work, you still have to have the maps downloaded otherwise they wont load properly (black screen, sound only). This may or may not have happened to me for a couple hours :x

This is really good to know. Thank you!

Wanted to watch replay like http://sc2.replays.net/replay/Sc2Replay.aspx?ReplayID=904 but can't : Unable to open replays. And yes i did search for topic, but most of them refers to watching old replays. I want to watch the current version replays and can't. WTF ? Btw i don't know if it's usa/europe but my version is 0.20 and the lastest folder is \Base16036 if that helps.
Help >_<

That replay is 0.16.0.15449

HOw do you know ? Downloaded a bunch of replays from sc2p, gamereport and everything but doesn't seem to work. I'm getting really annoyed.
Edit : Okaaaaaaaaaaaay. Seems like all those sites weren't up to date. tried opening another rep from another website and it works... Who would have guessed that ? oO

I use my replay parser to check them :p

is there a way to quickly download a map you need?
edit: nevermind, i figured it out, but i have all the required maps yet I am still getting the problem Kennigit described.

I just log on, select to host a game, then choose that map and if you need to download the data there is a link abover the map image on the right. If it's not the current version that you need then I'm nnot sure how you can get them .. but someone probably knows

some additional info, before the patch today i was able to watch version .19 replays without any trouble using this method.
Now I am unable to watch any version .20 replays.

are you renaming the correct folder to enable you to watch version 0.20 - there are two different folders depending on what version you want to watch as explained in the OP. I have tested the method and it works fine for me
|
yes i did, i even tried each possible combination of renaming
-didn't rename either one (tried to load the rep while in b.net) - didn't work, replay loads, then I get black screen, with mouse cursor, and I can hear sounds/music
-renamed only Base16036 folder - didn't work: black screen, I can see mouse cursor and hear sounds/music
-renamed only Base16094 folder - didn't work: got an error, "The version of Starcraft II required to play this game is unavailable."
-renamed both - didn't work: same error as above
|
Much thanks for the info. I can finally watch some replays while eating lunch.

for v 0.19 you should be renaming both folders and dragging your replay onto the SC2Switcher shortcut .. works for me so I really can't say what the problem might be

I want to watch a replay from just yesterday and I followed the instructions but it didn't seem to work. How do I know what replay version I have and what folders I should be renaming?
