Blizzard, the amount of fans you lost by not having chat channels at launch (to form groups of friends, etc) is exponentially higher than the amount you will lose in a decade because someone was depressed about their loss count.

I know that true hardcores don't give a shit, but believe me, a computer game is meant to bring fun to people's lives, not endless competition, striving for greater improvement nor laddering for the masters. Can you not realize the learning curve involved in a strategy game as opposed to Call of Duty? How can SC2 grow bigger when getting started is so hard? Hiding losses has a pretty significant impact to the casuals. No need to fear scrutiny, whether from friends or self, greater incentive to practice on ladder and try out new builds. A loss from doing stupid but fun shit does not end up a permanent black dot on your record but rather a fun memory to be recalled for weeks. Fuck you guys. I applaud Blizzard for doing what they are doing. If you are a true hardcore, then I don't see why you aren't in Masters. Then they can play another game. 99% of games out there are catered specifically to the casual audience. Why should the remaining 1% of games that are fun for other people be turned into yet another casual game? If you don't like playing competitively, don't play 1v1 Starcraft ladder. Your argument makes about as much sense as Blizzard adding StarJeweled mechanics into regular SC2 games because otherwise puzzle game players won't find it as fun. No, the game is not for casual players, so they can simply not play it. It's not that difficult to understand.

It's not like the transition to a lack of accountabiliy in America's public schools has boosted achievement or made anyone feel better. Kids are just lazier and feel more entitled that ever before. They may not lose fans over the loss counts, but they DO lose players. Seriously. A lot of players. A LOT. I'm kind of surprised at the lack of awareness over the sheer number of people who just will not ladder because the competitive aspect is hard to deal with. Day[9] just did a whole daily about this. edit: On March 22 2011 11:28 Ezekyle wrote: Then they can play another game. 99% of games out there are catered specifically to the casual audience. If you aren't a casual gamer, this has no impact on you. If you're stuck in diamond, work on improving, work on how you think about improving. If you consider yourself a competitive gamer and you just cannot break into masters, that's a sign that you're mistaken or have been misled about something about how the game works.

Starcraft is a game, and as a supporter of the game, I want this fabulous RTS to reach EVERYONE and increase the audience beyond the current niche existence. A game created solely for the sake of hardcore laddering? When the first Starcraft was released, when Day9 and Tasteless got their first copy of the game, when Boxer visited the net cafe with his buddies, they played for fun, they played like shit, but they enjoyed the moments. Without that first group of casuals who played like shitty asses but loved the game so much as to develop the game further, there would not be a competitive scene at all. Where is e-sport without the casuals? Wtf is your logic? How the hardcore ladders enjoy the game is their own problem. Vast majority of gamers aren't inspiring to be the best nor to be pro, they just want a game they can genuinely enjoy and have a good time. A game created exclusively for the sake of competition or "e-sport", don't make me laugh.

The game play hasn't changed here, this is just more of a convenience for casual players. Honestly if you aren't in masters league you shouldn't care about your W/L ratio at all anyways. It seems like people are just bitching for the sake of bitching lately. I'm in Masters, but I do know people who might find it a little less stressful break into the 1v1 ladder now, honestly how is this "dumbing" down the game? Now people can't look at their losses and feel badly anymore? That makes the game to "easy" rofl .. give me a break. I am serious. Especially if blizz doesn't allow an option to have the players see there losses if they choose. I'm in diamond, and if it's only masters that get to see it, well then I don't like it. It doesn't ruin the game, but I definately dislike it. It's not about being "elitist" in any way shape or form. If anything, I find this change rather condescending with bliz saying "It's okay little bronze player! We're all winners around here!" *pat pat on the head* On March 22 2011 11:22 Ribbon wrote: + Show Spoiler + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJbAT1wzS8U&feature=player_embedded In fairness, that would be totally awesome. I liked comparing this to the others in my league who had fairly even win/loss ratios, but now I can't, for reasons I cannot understand. Besides this, the profile just looks lame. Why has this change been made? What was wrong with having the loss count? I hope they change this back. + Show Spoiler + because comparing makes no sense when you aren't at the top of the master league or at the bottom of bronze league. If somebody has a lower win/loss ratio, but more points (with zero bonuspool), he simply plays better players. The only thing that matters are your last wins/losses and you can see them in the match history.

i see no downside to this. you want your win/loss ration to be displayed, get to masters, stop complaining so much on the forums.

On deeper reflection I agree with Blizzard that it is a good idea. It will encourage lower level players to just play and not care about their record so much, and if you get to Masters you will still have your stats. Too be honest if you arent in Masters, I don't see the issue... fyi I am a 3k diamond probably near the cusp of masters and it doesnt bother me.
