So, as you may have noticed, I've been promoted to help Saro/Meat add a bunch of new features to the site.
I'll try to keep this post updated with a comprehensive list of features added/changes of existing ones (not necessarily from me, of course). This won't include stuff that was added before yesterday, though.
Let's go.
Random little updates (07-04-28)
1. Details of calendar "on air" events now display the elapsed time since their start (right after "Running"). Thanks to niteReloaded for the suggestion. 2. You can now use whatever character your like in your quote (no more "No html / php characters allowed in your quote" message). 3. Spoilers in quotes won't have their text centered anymore (on FF anyway). 4. The auto image resizing should now work 100% of the time, meaning the site won't get randomly stretched out on IE (and maybe other browsers) when an image is too large.
Calendar further improvements (07-04-24)
New calendar improvements: - running events are now displayed under "ON AIR" on the right part of the site ; - events of the day now have their hour displayed instead of their date (e.g. if an event is scheduled for April 25th at 18:30, the right tab will still display "Apr 25" as long as it's not yet April 25th (Korean Time), but from then on and until the event actually starts, it'll be "@18:30").
Calendar improvements (07-04-15)
A few improvements to the calendar: - upcoming events now have a countdown next to their description (it's not a live-updating countdown -- in other words you have to refresh -- because it'd be totally useless) ; - admins can now edit an event when it's over, so it won't be displayed in the upcoming events list even if it's an event from the current day (that kinda sucked) ; - and the calendar is now fully synchronized with the korean time instead of TL time.
No more wrong redirecting after posting/editing (07-03-16)
You should now always be redirected to the thread you're posting in (even if you browsed another thread just before submitting your post).
Edit: won't work after submitting a thread though... will change that later.
TL Calendar (07-03-12)
Look on the right.
Feel free to post any comments, suggestions or anything.
You can now add up to 12 options to your polls. The staff thinks it's way enough. 7 was a bit limiting.
Search feature: a few little things (07-02-25)
1. You can now choose to group results by forum or not. If not, the forum name will appear just above the thread name. 2. When using the right tab of the site to search, it now searches through thread names by default (used to search through content). 3. The year is now displayed on the "time of the last post" column. 4. More to come soon, including (I hope) 3-word searches and searching by date.
Upgraded spoiler feature (07-02-17)
NOTE: if the spoilers tag aren't working for you anymore, that's probably because your browser is using your cache and not reloading everything properly. Try CTRL+F5 and/or to empty your whole cache.
There's something potentially annoying with "anonymous" spoilers: sometimes you don't even know if you're gonna be spoiled or not. That's the reason why you now can (and should) add a title to your spoilers, by doing this : [ spoiler=Title]stuff (without the initial space)
Standard untitled spoilers are still available though of course.
"Add a poll" option on posts, too (07-02-17) The "Add a poll" link is available when replying to a thread now
No more disappearing posts (07-02-15)
Already posted and noticed your post wasn't there afterwards? It happens a lot on high-traffic threads, at least to me. And it's pretty damn frustrating sometimes. The corresponding threads usually point to a blank page when you click the little arrow next to the topic title to get to its last page.
Now, when a post can't be submitted, there should be a notice and you'll be prompted to try again in a few seconds (and your post won't be lost in the process, of course).
This is only a first step though, because there shouldn't be any error at all. So we'll try to find out what's wrong, but for now, lost posts shouldn't happen anymore.
Edit: Actually I've just understood what the cause of the error was... I'll try to fix this asap.
"Preview post" feature (07-02-14)
You now can see a "Preview" button next to the usual "Post" (or "Update") button under posts' text areas. I won't explain what it is since it's pretty obvious. Just a note: you should be able to use Alt+P as a shortcut to this new button (just like Alt+S to submit), but I'm not sure it works on something other than IE-based browsers.
Nice promotion About annoying bugs, there's the one where clicking on the ">" sign near a post title in a forum brings you to an empty page. I don't know what causes it but it appears frequently in large topics (i.e. with many pages).
Thanks. That's absolutely nothing compared to what Saro/Meat have done tho. :o

Good luck with all this anyway ;p
Hmm, reread the news, I guess. :p
If that wasn't clear: the "oh shit my post has disappeared" bug is precisely what was causing what you describe, and it should therefore not happen anymore (on new threads). It was happening because the post count was updated while the actual post couldn't be stored.

Oh OK, sorry. I didn't think both things were related :D Thanks !

Yeah, same here. Nice to see that one's fixed. I didn't even know about the disappearing post bug.
Nop, shouldn't. It wasn't really essential, but it took only a few minutes to implement and it's definitely cooler when it's integrated in TL's layout.
Pop I noticed that with certain search terms like "survivor", we get the poll/liquibet results along with the regular forum categories. And obviously there are a LOT of threads for "survivor" in liquibet that are most likely not of too much interest for the user.
edit: well as far as Google searches go at least... I actually suppose you were talking about the standard search? I guess you could simply group results by forum? Since polls and stuff should come last.
d'oh. you're right. "Group by forum" gets rid of a lot of the probelms I mentioned (although I'll mention that poll/liquibet is acutally ahead of both broodwar and tournament sections)

I don't know if that was mentioned already, but I experienced a little bug lately.
Let's say I'm reading a thread I already posted in. In one of the posts there is a link to another TL thread, which I click (new tab opens). I press "backwards" (I use FF), edit my post for whatever reason, and press "Update". So far, so good.
But now TL forwards me not to the thread my edited post is in, but the thread that in got to through using the link in this thread. So basically I need to click my way back again to the thread to check back on my post edit.
Not really a big deal nor that much annoying but still...just wrong. Maybe you could fix that.
Hm.. your wording is kinda confusing, so I'll just assume it's this same issue.
Whenever I make a post, it redirects to the last page I was at, instead of the thread I'm posting in. So if I look up something in the articles while writing a post, when I hit submit I get redirected to the article. Haven't really had reason to complain about this, but it'd be nice to see it fixed.

ah yes, this phenomenon. I've experienced it many times, and I frequently get scared that I posted in the wrong thread
If I was gay or if you were a woman, I would most certainly fantasize with sexual proceedings over a lovely french person. But this is good enough and I most certainly love the work you've done :D
oh man not only does it take you to the right thread, if your post ends up on a different page than the current one (ie in live report threads a lot), it automatically takes you to your post~~
Just a small suggestion, didn't feel like making an own thread about this:
When I'm reading a thread, I can go through pages both on the top right and on the bottom right corner. However, on the Forum overview page, I can only change pages on the top right corner...could you implement that on the bottom right corner, too?
It's kind of annoying when looking for a 2 days old thread and not wanting to use search function for whatever reason, that I have to scroll back up. Not really a big deal anyway but would be nice if fixed. Thanks in advance.
edit: in case you don't know what I mean, screenshots in spoiler
yea i often forget about that too and think there is just 1 page which seems impossible and often it wastes like a minute of my day before i find out im a retard >.< help us pop!
On April 03 2007 02:25 PoP wrote: You probably are.
(I didn't change anything regarding this anyway, maybe Saro or Meat, but I highly doubt it.)
Haha no joke, after reading this I went back to general forums, and everything was back to normal...
I know that something changed and then came back (could have been some odd error) because when I bumped this thread, the length of the general forum panel was less than the length of the side panels, but at the time of writing this, it's back to being longer.
Ok now the page links are on the bottom too. Also, unrelated, but you can click the calendar header box and that will bring you to the current day's details.
I'll update the opening post later, but these are pretty minimal. -_-
PoP, I was using the search function just now, and used "ladder". Okay, got some results, but didnt get the "list of ladders" thread I was looking for.
Next I did "ladder" for featured threads. Nothing. wierd. Next I do "list" in featured threads, and I get the thread I was looking for.
So waht I'm trying to say is, if I search "ladder", I wont get any results for "ladders".
You can use ladder* in this case. The default behavior is to search for all the exact words.
By the way, two features that are not famous enough (works for Google search too): - "word1 word2" searches for the whole expression ; - word1 -word2 searches for thread titles (or posts) containing word1 but not word2.
All of this only works with at least 4-letter words. At least for now.

Gogo random.
Hrrm, happened again. Again it's not annoying, just letting you know something is maybe not working like it should. (That or I changed something without realising it)
i just wanted to know if you (PoP) are able to put in the post/reply #. as there is in liquipoker eg the first reply would have #1 to the right, next to the PM button.
im not sure if you guys would want it but i like it alot O_O
EDIT: wait im not seeing this on liquidpoker... -_-;; did they remove it or was it never there? T.T
You can do that now, it's how I did the index for the small VOD thread.

I know this might be a little controversial, but could we make the main tl time default to korean or allow logged in users to change their time zone?
It gets a bit confusing switching between local time/tl time/korean time(calendar). Its also weird seeing a calendar event listing the 18:00, so does the time at the top and the event is still 8 hours away
This is very minor, mainly because of the sexy countdowns
All pages of a thread can now be seen on one screen if you click the All-link. so sexy, makes giant threads wayyy easier to read and is broadband-friendly. Thanks!
btw I already discovered a minor error: The All-button also shows in Thread overview pages (like when you click on "General") but it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I suppose you either remove it, since it's not that useful, or fix it if you want :D
i just wanted to say thanks again for the calendar, i've recently realized just how thorough and helpful it really is, so big thanks to the people who implemented it and run it now. i'm sure PoP is a big (or only?) name in that endeavour, don't know who the others are but thanks!
P.S. GI i recently visited your OSL R&S thread to see the new maps, damn so many great volunteer services being provided at tl.net. you guys are teh sex

neat. Nothing escapes my eyes O.o!!
Thanks to whoever did this. Although now I can't surf TL at school as much... it says "Starcraft Pro..." instead of "News " now. But I guess it's more accurate.
If I may make another suggestion which would be nice ...
How about when you edit your post, a bold "EDIT:" automatically appears at the bottom of your screen? It would be nicely convenient feature so you wouldn't have to type out "EDIT:" all the time.
The only problem I foresee would be for the people who like to put their "EDIT:"s halfway down the post (say they made a mistake in player ID or something) and they say that they edited the ID.
But yeah, a suggestion's a suggestion
PoP needs an "I > YOU" icon because he's so sexy ^_^
Um. I don't think the "EDIT:" thing is that big of a deal, equinox. Too foten are the errors of an edit just halfway down, and I think it'll be less efficient to implement this.

Not everyone types "edit" in their post when they do so; If im editing a post it is usually to correct a small mistake or just to add something(immediately after posting) so noone is likely to even see the unedited post
