Join Fight Club. No, seriously, I find regular workout / sports work well. But you have to commit yourself to a hard and challenging schedule. It doesn't help if you just work out when you can't sleep, you have to do a full program to see any effect. At least that's how it works out for me.

And note that if you fuck up one day by sleeping in late or by staying up later than your bedtime (once you establish your bedtime) then you will be fucked for a few days and will have to stay strict and be patient to get back on course.

From what I've been told, there's nothing you can really do about insomnia other than wait for it to pass naturally; all you can really do is use something to help you sleep - luckily it doesn't take full scale sleeping pills or anything. I believe it's usually induced by stress, odd sleeping habits, and maybe one or two other similar issues. I'd recommend trying to get yourself on a consistent sleep schedule, and cutting a little stress out of your life if possible.

I went to bed at 7AM on Saturday, I woke up at 4PM. But during school days it's 5AM-(depending on schedule)10AM/12PM. Oh, and I never take naps. Is it possible to just lay in bed and just, stare at something? Or what? Because usually I just lay there, without doing anything, then I just think. And thinking keeps me awake.

if you really need to sleep, go to bed in a dark room, with no computer or tv on and close your eyes. keep your eyes closed, avoid moving unless you develop a cramp for some reason, and just let your mind flow. Dont try to block out thoughts, but dont try to actively steer them either. You just sort of observe them without attaching to them. Eventually when youve worked through all your stressors, extra thoughts etc it gets easier to sleep. if its not crucial to go to sleep on time, dont worry about it. stressing over it just makes it harder.

so many people i'm with always try to act tough and cool after we play sports like "wow omg can you believe that i'm not tired yet?" well yea dipshit you didn't fuckin run HARD if you really are indeed superman and can run for like 6 days straight then get on a fuckin dynamo and start help create electricity. until then take your insomnia and shove it up your ass. i mean, most people I know that have insomnia... what do they do? nothing. they just sit around waiting as if expecting a big cup of sleepiness to slap them right across the face. if you're sitting around doing nothing well then you're not getting tired. if you're not getting tired no shit it's not gonna help you get to sleep.

how is sleeping from 5-12 insomnia? that's a perfectly normal amount of sleep just at the wrong time. wake up at whenever you need to wake up every day (gonna guess its something like 7) and dont take naps. if you wake up at 7 everyday and still can't fall asleep by say 1am, even though you take no naps, are energetic whole day, and it's been over a week, then props to you. use that extra time to get some work done.

And thinking keeps me awake. Yeah, this isn't insomnia. This is just you having a screwed up sleep cycle. My advice for this would be to just skip a night of sleep. Pick some night where you don't have much important you have to do the next day and just don't go to bed. Try to stay up until like 9-10pm if you can, then get up at 7-8am the next morning, and try to get yourself used to a schedule similar to that. It's probably not the best method to fix your cycle exactly, but it's definitely the fastest.

You're not describing insomnia here either. Not being tired because you haven't done anything == silly, it =/= insomnia. Insomnia == you are tired as fuck but can't actually fall asleep. Insomnia is when, after a normal schedule of activity which makes you tired, you go to bed but can't fall asleep. It's typically stress induced and lasts 1-2 weeks. After a couple days your life just sucks, because you're completely drained physically and mentally, and no matter how many hours you lie in bed for you can't fall asleep. Going out and running or something doesn't help - believe me, I tried. Getting yourself more exhausted doesn't help anything. You get all the wonderful effects of sleep deprivation and such, and it basically turns you into a total wreck until it runs its course.

Get Tom Clancy books. Not the novels (most of which are actually interesting in some places) but the military technical/organizational nonfiction. Two to five pages will put you to sleep, guaranteed. Listening to Gregorian chant also does wonders.

Simply have a very intense masturbation session where you orgasm at least 3 times. If you find it hard to orgasm the 2nd or 3rd time, shove your middel finger or a pencil with a smooth tip into your arse hole. This will induce an ejaculation as you push on your prostate. I will be exhausted from the session that you will fall asleep. LOL

There's nothing really doctors can do it about it, it just has to run its course. The times I've had it I just take benadryl when going to bed for a week or two, it's enough to help you start sleeping. Actual sleeping pills are unnecessary, I'd avoid them. As long as you're sensible about it there shouldn't be any risk of getting addicted to benadryl.
