He lost like 250 points this month, if he doesn't win another league this season he'll almost certainly be dethroned. Even then, JD still sits comfortably at his throne. It's going to be this way at least for the next 2 months. I'm hoping JD can at least maintain the #1 spot for a year. That would be very impressive.

you just have to be consistent for a long time to get a good ranking

July[z-zone] with 317.6 points. I'm surprised to see Flash 4th even thought Effort and Calm have been playing good.

Now in December JD is still first with 2549 Pts. But second is not Bisu — for the first time the second is EffOrt with 1640.6 Pts.

Kespa rankings have their use, it's just that every single month without fail there is a new poster who has no clue how they work (a la TwoToneTerran in this thread for example) and start complaining before they understand the system. Kespa rankings are obviously not the best indicator of current shape, but do help gauge consistent performance. Kespa rankings are fine. Stop expecting them to be something they're not. Absolutely it does. If I remember correctly (I know there is a thread/article on it somewhere around here), the past 3 months are weighted the most heavily, with a decay for anything outside of that up to 12 months. This was to help the ranking more accurately show current form, while also helping to show who has consistently been performing. Even though Kespa ranks get released monthly, they do not simply look back at the past month only. If they did, you'd have all sorts of wierd rankings and people would be up in arms about it... but focusing heavily on the past 3 months paints a better pictures, and as I said, Calm's MSL win factors into this (along with his PL performance), hence his high ranking for this month. Edit - And what happens a lot of the time, is that older metrics will 'wear off', hence why you may have someone who had an ok month still getting passed by someone who had a terrible month... it just meant that person LOST more points overall than the other from old games rolling off.

For instance, Jaedong's ELO ranking is barely above Effort's right now, and for a while he was behind both Effort and Calm, as he's been struggling in ZvZ - but that doesn't mean he's suddenly a bad player. Even during that time, most people would say that Jaedong is "the best Z in the world right now" - and that's reflected in KeSPA, because it doesn't tank his rating just because he's had a rough month in ZvZ. So: Flash has had a great month. If he has more great months, he'll climb the ratings further. But he hasn't been the most successful player in the last year by any stretch, so it's only sensible that he doesn't immediately pop to the top due to one good month.
