There are threads like this in all of the forums, and with lots of people new to the game (and possibly genre), there could be lots of confusion. So if you have a simple question about the game that's not worth starting a new thread over, feel free to ask here!
For the beginning this thread is open to pretty much any question! The exception being questions that have answers on our Wiki
Examples of what not to ask:
What kind of map is Hanamura?
What does Genji's ultimate do?
What comp should I run?
What skin should I unlock?
Examples of what is okay to ask:
I'm having a hard time dealing with bastion on attack. How do you suggest I deal with him as a tank?
I always seem to lose to the opposing widowmaker. Are there any tips on how to play an effective counter sniping widowmaker?
This thread is only for asking or answering simple questions. If you aren't doing this you will be punished. Consider this your one warning.

Literally ONLY when it'd be enough to finish them, else it's just more effective to reload. Unless, of course, you're a character who uses it as a part of their classic combos, such as Genji or Roadhog.
I melee on everyone if they are in melee range and I need to reload, especially if they are low. Unless its a 1v1 fight you are better off using melee since your team will usually be also shooting at them.
Its a bit of a feel thing but melee is good and 2 takes 2 seconds and does 60 damage which is quite a bit.
Im looking for the best settings (video, controls and mouse). I have a lot of experience in RTS (mainly Broodwar), and MOBAS (LoL), but im almost a rookie referred to FPS. ¿How can i adapt my PC and brain to deal with Overwatch?
will new characters be injected into the roster anytime in the future? i feel like its similar to dota in that the characters abilities and roles play the biggest factor in team play and having just 21 seems very limited.
speaking of dota, do u think they should add power ups too (fast speed? cloak? armor?). having only a couple characters provide them sucks.

Generally as far as FPS goes the best video settings are the lowest settings. No one cares how pretty the game is. Distractions and potential hiccups aren't worth anything. I'll gladly take the game looking like butt if it means running butter smooth 10000000000000000% of the time because if you need a pixel perfect shot and you have any lag well RIP.
Controls is whatever you feel comfortable with. Mouse with an FPS like this where your moving fast bouncing all over the place I'd go with the fastest mouse you can handle, where as an FPS like CS:GO you want low sensitivity. Obviously turn off any smoothing or snapping because that stuff is literal cancer for any gaming.
Dpi i run is 400 because thats what i play fps with. Many top overwatch players run 40p to 80p from my understanding. A few do use higher than 800 but not too many that ive asked and gotten answers from.
In general the lower the sens the more accurate your small corrections can be. But there are people who like high sens so in the end its personal preference.
All settings to low will maximize fps and minismise input lag

Theres parts of animation when you are reloding. The actual reloading when you arent able to perform a melee attack--and then the second part of the reload animation when you are able to perform an attack. So typically what you wanna do is reload then wait for the animation where you can melee them. Normally I just spam my melee button as Im reloading to get it in asap.

ofc Im talking strictly CQC
Oh yeah thats true too, there is animation cancelling in this game though its applications are usually limited.
For example genji can cancel the 2nd half of his attack animations with a melee animation and cancel the 2nd half of that with his dash. Once you learn where the damage is applied you can right click melee dash in CQC and get a huge burst of damage down. Its pretty awesome actually.
Reaper also has a very very forgiving animation cancel with melee which makes him super strong in melee range even if he is running low an ammo.

Well, for video I have no issue with all the stuff in the screen, although I still play CS 1.6 at 800x600 :D. Here what you need is a constant +60fps, I'm +80fps all the time. And the game is just too beautiful to not max it out hahaha
Controls: If you like Sniper go to Controls, Top Right Change All heroes to Widowmaker, and for her Zooming Sensitivity leave it at 50. So when you zoom it won't be faster, nor slower. At least that's how I use in Counter strike since beta 5.2
Mouse. I use windows in the middle, DPI 400, In game sens 10. Get a big mousepad.

Are you sure setting it to 50, makes it 1:1 with normal aim sensitivity? I put it to 0 when I saw the default being 30. ( I would assume default value would make it faster as is the case in most FPS games, when zooming in)
I haven't really tested much but it sure felt like there was no change in sensitivity even when zooming at 0 value.

I believe you can leave as soon as the cards show up on screen. If you leave before the cards there will be a penalty applied to your account if you do it enough.

when reaper starts his teleport animation, he can get shot down, but what about when he pops out at the other end? I feel like there is a slight delay from when I can start moving, I can get killed right then right? Also, is it true that reaper yells something edgy when he pops out the other end and that enemy players can hear it? if all this is true, I am surprised that I can get away with it nearly all the time.
yeah Reaper drops a sound line after porting and yes you can headshoot him if you time it right before he can move. And I think right now there is a rather high amount of people that play without sound. Can't say much I usually hear it unless someone on my team is using an ult.
1. dVa is my fav so far. But I have some questions. i see that the ult to get back into the mech is 1% a second. and if u kill something it's much faster. but what about damage? does putting down damage increase the speed?
2. Also, when I ram shit with DVA, does it do damage?
3. Lastly, the projectile shield, how good is it? It seems like I can boost with it on to penetrate defenses. does it block everything like reinhardt or only some things?
1) yes, damage gives ult charge both in mech form (self-destruct) and pilot form (calldown mech)
2) 25 damage IIRC. You can do a bit of burst damage with ram/shoot/melee
3) IMHO defensive matrix is the only reason to choose D.Va over other tanks. It can eat any kind of projectile and nullify ults like Pharah/Roadhog/Reaper's

Edit: also calldown mech does 50 damage
damn you sure know a helluva lot! 50 dmg on mech calldown?! wtf? how would u use that? call it down when im on someone? seems suicidal
last question: How in the world do I Melee?! is it just automatic or do I right click when im near someone?
Is there any deep strategical discussion on a map-by-map basis of optimal lineups, counterpicks, etc? Not talking tactics at all, just hero optimization. I assume this will happen more regularly when tournaments are ongoing, but it'd be nice to get something going right now.

Not too much right now. Its all somewhat situational since every comp has its strengths and weaknesses.
Does anyone use the digital vibrance option in the nvidia control panel? I assume AMD has a similiar thing. It basically makes the colors more "lively" and brings them out better, a lot of people put it to 100% in CS:GO for example, because it's much easier to notice opponents coming at you etc.
I've been trying it in overwatch and it's great. Only thing that bothers me is that I have to keep going back to the default(50%) after I'm done with the game. Anyone know if it's possible to automate it?
I'm curious, if people are in a fixed team with friends or w/e do they get put/have chance to be put agaisnt groups that are made up completely of solo que players? Or do they get put agaisnt other fixed premades.
I only ever play solo que but im willing to grind through it and climb up the MMR ladder in matchmaking when the game comes out so i can finally get some decent teammates, however when that happens if i'm being put vs a full group of friends that have played together for a while and have better communication its obviously gonna suck and something i have been worried about for a while.
The game attempts to match even numbers of groups/solo together to the best of its ability.
As matchmaker waits longer it loosens some rules but still prioritizes mmr/groups of 6 playing against other 6 stacks.
So if you are solo you might end up vs a team with groups 3/4/5/6 but its possible that against a 6 stack your team is you and a 5 stack to match the six stack. In this scenario you might be the odd one out but the game has still for the most part put a big team of 5 against a big team of 6.
Duo queueing is the easiest way to play with an effective partner, have some semblance of communication AND avoid big stacks in competitive play.
I found when comp did exist that duo queue provided the best overall win rate because the real serious players would all 6 stack and they were generally the pro players taking breaks from scrim to grind comp in the closed beta.

Thanks, that's nice to hear, will try get one of my friends to play but if not i really don't mind solo queing, people should be pretty decent once you get in the higher ranks.
A lot of the complaints about open beta was the solo que but like i said you just need to grind your way up and it should be a lot better.

According to my rudimentary German skills she says something the tune of: "Helden sterben nicht," which is the translation to her standard English phrase: "Heroes never die." The literal translation would be "Heroes don't die."

Thaanks!
It was mentioned before, but I want to say again that D.Va's defense matrix blocks every projectile ultimate in the game. Meaning Graviton Surge, Barrage, Whole Hog, Pulse Bomb, Dragonstrike (before it becomes the dragon), Soldiers Visor (cause it stops his guns and rockets), Meis Blizzard (before the orb lands), Bastion's Tank shots, etc. I know there are examples I missed. And when I say block, I mean they disappear, negated completely.
Genji and D.Va are absolutely fascinating heroes because D.Va completely negates them, Genji deflects everyone back under the same conditions rendering it "his" ultimate.

This. I was queuing with a guy from our forum here, and we got into a game where other people actually used mic as well (I went the longest time without running into other mic users) had a blast chatting with the one other player, and I continued friendly banter when that player was put on the enemy team to balance out the teams. Added the person as a friend. Back when Left 4 Dead 1 was new, that's how I met all of my original Steam friends. I played on a team with them in Left 4 Dead and we chatted on mic enjoyed playing together added each other. I'm pretty excited to have an opportunity to rebuild that kind of community with Overwatch.
On May 15 2016 01:29 Andre wrote: Anyone know how to convert windows sensitivity to overwatch sens?
I'm not sure what you mean.
Windows sensitivity should be 6/10 and no mouse acceleration turned on in its settings.
On top of this your mouse has DPI settings.
And then Overwatch applies a raw input where you choose your mouse sensitivity from there. Did you mean converting from one game's in game sensitivity to another?
I want to transfer the movement I do from one end to the screen to the other, for example in width(which is 1080pixels) to a for example 90degree rotation in the game.
I'm not sure which value would be the best to use as a reference point, but basically I just want the mouse movement I do on the desktop to feel similiar to the one in Overwatch.
I mean all of those are arbitrary, but nevertheless I'd like to have somewhat consistent sensitivity. Would help when practicing reflex games, etc.
I am on 7 in game and 400dpi its just a smidge too fast, and 6 is a smidge too slow. 6.5 would feel great, but they made it go from 1-100 to try and avoid decimals i think?
I'm not sold on it though. Decimals would be great.
Aw man that sucks if you just wanted ONE ticket you can always hope something becomes available? Or call the cineplex? someone might no show or they kept tickets to a smaller number available for fear of not selling out?
I know with the Dr. Who showings cineplex did in Kingston only 3/4 of the seats were on offer originally then they opened the last quarter the day before after a bunch of ppl called in.
I've always been a console FPS gamer, since original Halo. Though i haven't upgraded to the new Xbox yet, due to the fact that i also need a TV to actually take advantage of the new graphics. So its rather cost prohibitive.
I played Planetside for a few days a long time ago and hated it, on PC. I just felt like my mobility was so rigid compared to a controller. (Though i know its like scientifically proven that aim is far more accurate with a mouse vs controller)
Does Overwatch have a Campaign, or at least means of playing vs Bots? Cause I'm not sure I want to buy it just to get my ass kicked, that's what SC2 is for.
they have 3 level of bots, dumb bots, dumb bots that turn on their aimbots once they reach the objective and bots that just one shot you the moment you peak. And no single player campaign so far or PvE stuff anytime soon. Thats what their shorts and comic merchandizing will be for. And I think Overwatch is even more rigid then Planetside 2 atleast. Not played the first one.
But I played both of those games on pc with keyboard and mouse. So I can't tell you how Overwatch plays on console with a controller.
Don't think you will get your ass kicked at the start, because many people enjoy Overwatch. So alot of not so good people will play it for some time. And the Quickmatch Matchmaking is okayish. Except if use a Controller on PC, because I am pretty sure they won't turn on auto aim for those again. Atleast I hope so. But as I said no idea about the console version.
You could use a controller as FeyFey said but you won't get aim assist so I wouldnt suggest it.
You could always get overwatch on console if you like console shooters. There's nothing wrong with that, though most of the people on these boards will be providing advice based on pc experience probably.
Since Blizz is offering a free battle tag change with the Overwatch launch, will changing it now use up my 1 time limited change if I never used it? I still get the warning that I can only change it once on the account management dashboard.

The way it works is if you changed it before you now get another. I dont believe they stack. I could be wrong though.

That feature wasn't in beta and there hasn't been any word on it yet, so I assume they will add it as soon as they get it working and decide on a price because the earlier they add that in the more money they'll get imo.
Anyone here tried out the Steam controller yet? I'm gonna pick one up before I head home, just want a final opinion. Heard a lot of good things about it so far.
could I run the game on a medium range ish laptop. I'm prob getting a mac for college but since I'll be doing all my work on the school computers it won't be like a high end one or anything. not too sure price so whats roughly the cheapest you think I could spend and have it run smoothly without putting it on super low settings.
Who are good streamers gameplay wise? I'm not interested in funny personalities or random giveaways, just legit good players. I've been enjoying Seagull's stream quite a bit but other than that I have no idea who of the streamers is worth watching
Not trying to start a shitfest, but I am legit curious as to what classes might be OP at this moment. Personally, the game feels as balanced as hell and I don't have any problems with a character. Is there a current consensus on this matter?
There is no record keeping of losses iirc but you can see how many games you've won as a certain hero in your career profile screen (along with a bunch of other stats).

Seagull is about the only pro that I know of that regularly streams, ster was really good at TF2 and is very good at OW and used to stream a lot during beta.

General consensus among a lot of people is that McCree is too strong. Lucio is head and shoulders above the other supports, but I don't think many people want him nerfed. Several pros have said that Widowmaker is too good. Otherwise most heroes are pretty balanced with solid strengths/weaknesses and soft counters.
For my personal opinion the only thing I would change would be to reduce Widow's body shot damage some. They can keep her headshot damage the same I just think it's dumb you can 1-hit Tracer/Zen with an easy body shot.
I personally think McCree isn't as OP as some think and I think as more supports are added Lucio will decrease some in pick rate. Then again I really hate when anything gets nerfed in games so...

Steam controller is 95% as good as a mouse and keyboard and i'm damn impressed. its really good.. its worth the money i paid. i created a great configuration for it for me to play FPS games. Valve is really awesome.
and i'm using a mouse and keyboard all the time because i can't deal with the loss of 5% of control

Don't agree with this. I think it comes down to the composition and section on if either Lucio or Mercy is the better pick. Sometimes you want Soundbarrier and Speed Boost over Res and Amp. Right now the heroes people play in QM usually are better of with a Lucio. Like Genji/Mcree/Reaper and Hogg. Everyone that can team wipe the enemy with their ult if speed boostet sound barriered. And that has to fast into the enemy, because no shields.

I'd say you can make great plays with Mercy if you have a premade team or good communication + good positioning from everybody. I feel there is no way around Lucio in solo-support play.
Personally I find Reaper a bit too beefy considering his dmg output and invulnerability with his cloak, especially on maps where both teams fight for one objective. But not too op.
Pharah and McCree are generally strong against Reaper. Pharah can stay out of range, flash bang shuts reaper down if he doesn't wraith to dodge it fast enough.

To be honest I actually think Reaper is one of the weaker offensive heroes. He's strongest when the enemy is running a lot of tanks but if that's not the case most of the other heroes do what he does but better. Tracer/Genji better flankers than him, McCree/76 are better at pushing objectives and fighting with the team, and personally I think Pharah's ult more reliable than his.
Of course if the enemy is running a Winston, Roadhog, and a Reinhardt then Reaper outshines them all but otherwise I've always felt I could've gotten more done as one of the other offensive heroes.
People have been talking about people being the number one ranked player on a special hero or something in a certain region. Is there some kind of actual list to back that up or are they just talking out of their ass?
Thanks for the stream suggestions by the way, have been watching ster a bit and probably would have missed him if it wasn't for the suggestion
It's so early in this games life that I don't think there's any definitive answer to who's the de facto #1 at any hero. Maybe once the eSports scene gets a few more tournaments completed we'll have a better understanding of who's the "best" at specific heroes.
I agree but my question was if there was a rank list or something because some streamer also said someone told him he was the rank 18 Tracer or something. Maybe I worded my original question badly.
I'm tempted to pick this game up, but my friends (whom I played SC2 with for a long time) most likely won't buy the game at this price point. Is it a fun game to play "alone"? Is there a MMR for solo queues?
Eventually if the game is fun for me I would obviously like to find teammates, but I just want to know if I can kickstart my experience alone and not be completely disappointed.
Also I figured out how to link my bnet to it. So now I have a better place to track my stuff.
Rank 5600 on the site, so that can't be too bad XD
My mercy stats are horrendous. I've been grinding her a bit to learn her but I am just so so bad. Only sub 50% win rate champ I have lots of games on
My widowmaker is almost breaking the top 1k widowmakers with a 74% win rate. O.O how does the algorithm work, is it based on being on fire or something?
I'm ranked higher than TviQue and Seagull. I've very rarely beaten these people in the game but I have beaten the number 1 NA Rawkus a number of times in beta and release before. So, idk how much I trust this site for rankings. Really really good way to at a glance see your in game stats though.

Ooo nice. Rank 6482 on site overall. I am rank #325 Lucio and #586 Bastion according to the site (XD on the Bastion). Yeah it definitely seems to favor play time, medals, being on fire, and then K/D.
The top top players are ranked far down because they scrim instead of QM. Reaver isn't even ranked on the leaderboard but is indisputably the best widowmaker NA.
If you put in a bunch of hours atm you will hit top of the leaderboards sadly. Its nowhere near indicative of skill

Yeah I saw the #1 player earlier today had a 48% winrate. So clearly they need to modify how they rank people.
It lists them by total score by default, so the higher the playtime, the higher rank. I'm at #193 at the time of posting on EU list. #1 on the list is almost pure Mercy play for full playtime :D
What I find interesting from that list is though, that even though I feel my W/L sucks ass at 54%, it's pretty much the same for anyone on that list.
Good list to get at a glance look at what people play as. I find it funny when my friend says over voice that he has "played enough healer for now" and then I looked him up on that list, has less than a full hour total as support since launch, while I got 12. He is too good a shooter to be wasted in support roles apparently >_> Seems also my stats in the offensive shooter roles are better than his as well, so I wonder who is getting wasted in the support slot exactly. Oh well, I do like playing Mercy.
Rank #90 Genji on the site. I think most of my score comes from playtime though. They should rank people based on stats that are important for each role.
For now, you can also sort by Damage Done, etc. by hand, which is pretty nice.

You could always get overwatch on console if you like console shooters. There's nothing wrong with that, though most of the people on these boards will be providing advice based on pc experience probably.
It's basically a crime to play any FPS on pads. I really don't understand the point of playing any fps with a pad when there's clearly a better precision with mouse... I'm still not sure how CoD / Halo got so much popularity (or maybe not).
jupp there is a mmr in Quickmatch and if you do some up voting and down voting you will see the same people alot. I find it does pretty well most of the time. Especially since it keeps you together for a few rounds if its good matches.

But even damage done can be based on shield spam. If you spam reinhardt shields its EASY to get top damage. But you dont actually need to kill anything to get it.
Shield spam isn't totally useless though. I mostly play Pharah at the moment and always spam Rheinhardt's shield when there's nothing else to hit and I can't get above / behind him.
Of course you also have to consider other stats like K/D, Win Ratio, etc.
Btw I also hope they are going to do a seperate leaderboard for Ranked Play.
When playing mercy, how does the damage boost interact with ultimates?
I assume direct damage ones like pharah ult are boosted, but how does it interact with things like mcree ult?
Also when is the boosted damage applied, when the shooter fires the shot or when it hits? (mainly relevant for things like symmetra/reinhardt/hanzo ult)
There is a lot of good Mercy info in this advanced guide. For McCree's ultimate, targets get lined up at 100 HP per second. So if a target has 400 HP, it will take 4 seconds for that target to get lined up.
Mercy can boost basicly anything aside from Riptyre, Torb turrets and Symmetra turrets. If at the moment the damage is applied by whatever and you are boosting the person, extra damage is applied.
Do skins stop dropping at a certain point? I got a ton early on but now it's been like 10 or maybe more boxes since I got one. I get mostly sprays, a lot of duplicates too.

What sensitivity do people play with(or what heroes)
Currently on 8 sensitivity on 400 DPI for pretty much every hero. Specifically looking for what sensitivity people play on Mei or Genji(as i'm trying to learn those heroes).

It must be my mouse or something because if I try the above settings, it takes moving a foot to make a 180.
I set mine to 4000DPI, 6/11 and 9 sensitivity - I have a Tekmotion NM40
I play 400dpi at 7 sens kip. Lots of pro overwatch players who used to play CS do 400dpi especially if they play hitscan. A lot of others also run 800 dpi with 7 sens. Then there's people like Seagull who run 1600 dpi and something like 4 in game sens.
I like having reinharts shield on toggle but there seems to be one major issue, that it doesn't get toggled off if you try to right click. Is is possible to configure it to do so?
Roadhog - I am not sure when exactly do I right click after hooking the enemy and he is reeled in. Not sure how the damage works either and the best way to get max damage from that combo. I can hook well but sometimes I feel like they don't die or something and I miss them.
Mei - Same thing, not sure when to right click after freezing them. Sometimes I freeze them all the way and when I right click right after they already move and I miss.
Can you guys give me some tips on these heroes? I just started playing them.
Roadhog combo is hook > left click > melee. This should kill any 200hp hero.
With Mei you should have plenty of time to right click (at their head obviously) just right click straight after you see them frozen solid, then you melee right after just like Roadhog

Wait so left click instead of right click?
Yes, right click is for medium range only, not close.

Full combo on hog if you're at med distance is right click, immediate hook, hold down left click, melee. If the right click lands just before hook, you increase your chances of making it a sure kill on a 200 hp target and beyond.

You don't necessarily want a dedicated site unless you already have a large community ready to use it. The League of Legends subforum had like 60+ active users when it got spun off a year ago, and 90% of the new site is still a complete ghost town.

You have two basic combos with Roadhog.
#1 Hook + fire + melee #2 Alt fire + hook + fire + melee
If you have more time, the range and the opponent has more health, the second is better. If you need to do it quickly and the opponent is squishy, the first one is fine. Alt fire is medium range, primary fire is for extreme closer range. You can get a feel for the timings with some practice. Also pay attention to distance, your hook reaches pretty far, but not that far.
Hooking is also where having higher tick servers would help out a lot.
For Mei, use the sound cues to your advantage. I feel the graphics are a bit slower than what's actually going on, so you can alt fire at their head before the character looks they've been frozen solid.

Do not worry, I still love this subforum (although wish it was linked and tied on the ld as well since I browse there more).
More concerning to me than the understaffed & tiny OW section in TL, is that there's barely any discussion about the "home" team, either here or on TLpro.com.
There has been 4 roster changes in the TL team and none were ever reported on, and even the wiki is still out of date. In fact, I think TL now only has 4 players and no manager.

As you said, www.teamliquid.net isn't the home site for the teamliquid team, that's www.teamliquidpro.com, so there's no expectation of the team being discussed here.
As for the pro page, with how young the game still is, it feels like most teams aren't really that "official" yet or anything. Feels like liquid might have jumped the gun a bit with trying to have a fully organised roster and everything when we don't even know who's good yet.
I'd guess they're trying to work out exactly how OW is going to be going forward, and what role TL as an organisation actually wants to play in it, before announcing a course of action. It does give the feeling that somethings messed up in the team though.
I'd really caution against wishing for a larger subforum/site, every time they try it the community just ends up massively fractured and only 2-3 threads ever get used.
Any audio/visual cue that indicates enemy wm has wallhack so I can start counting down the seconds? Right now I'm stuck trying to bait out the shot peeking (not) from behind the wall if I'm not sure (or just running and jumping out to see if they fire)

You can hear " Personne n'echappe a mon regard " when an ennemy widow activates her ult. And yes, the line is in French in the English client.
The annoying part is that it's not global call, so its easy for nobody to hear it.

The full combo for Roadhogg is Right click -> Hook -> Left Click -> Melee. That would be the maximum damage if the target is beyond your right click range. Otherwise the right click becomes a left click. The Right/Left click before the hook is mainly for tanks though. Hook -> left click -> Melee is enough for 200 hp heroes - Lucio. Right click from Roadhogg does rather little damage, before the projectile explodes. To maximize the damage you want the black smoke effect to be right in front of the target. Which would be similar to left clicking someone right next to you.
Also interesting bit about Roadhogg vs Roadhogg. The one that hooks first usually dies unless his right click did hit really good. Since you can left click -> hook -> left click the enemy roadhogg after he hooked you. Allowing your second left click to be before his second left click.

To be fair if you dont hear it cuz she's far away its effectiveness drops a bit. Its much better when she can use it to guarantee one headshot. Other characters cant use it nearly as well to guarantee kills as she can.

That's a fair point, but since the ult last forever, its still annoying. I play a lot of Tracer, and sometimes, the Widow just oneshots me when I exit a corner because she ulted 10sec ago when I was on the other side of the map
So I was checking out the masteroverwatch site and was wondering if anyone else used it before? Rather confusing because I have no clue how the ranking works (since my ranking seems a bit low but if the playerpool is low, would make sense). Was curious how my tracer is compared to others and thought someone else may know more on the site.

The rankings are basically the amount of time you play.

Do skins affect hitboxes in any way? Seems likes some of zenyatta's skins make his head much bigger, does it mean that you can shoot his head and it goes through not registering or does it usually count a headshot when shooting around the head of his default skin?

They don't affect in anyway, confirmed by Blue in beta. Would be silly anyway forcing everyone to run certain skins in comp.

I guess that makes sense but now I wonder what the hitboxes look like. Are the hitboxes smaller than the character skins that are bigger than the original skin, meaning if you shoot in the side of the head nothing happens? I assume that's what happens, and it's a bit weird.

The hitbox's are huge, even more so when you're using a projectile weapon hence the "Tree logs" comments about hanzo.

if you click on a hero, you get your score per min ranking as well.
So I've been getting into the habit of unscoping and instantly re-scoping with Widow after most shots to get a short better look at my surroundings. Does anyone know if that's inefficient after the nerf to re-scoping? Because it certainly seems like you get your shots charged faster if you stay scoped now Edit: After testing myself it seems like by staying scoped you reach 100% charge about half a second earlier.
Have a feeling this is one of those "not so simple" questions. What determines which DPS heros a team would want to run in a composition? I feel like I have a some idea of what situations you would want one support over another or one tank over another, but don't have a good feeling for DPS. For example: when would you prefer to have a 76 over a mcree, or when would you prefer to have a junkrat over a hitscan based character?

I think it depends on the enemy class composition and picking the right counters, for example if they have tracers and genji's then a mcree would be better over a 76, if they have a lot of tanks then maybe a reaper would be good, etc etc.
A class like junkrat completely depends on the map for me, a good example would be attack on temple of anubis.
I am sure there are guides that explain it a lot better but that's what i gathered from my experience with the game so far.
What determines how much health a hero has after using an ult that changes health? Such as when a Winston is at 100hp uses his ult to go up to 1000 hp, takes some damage down to 750hp, and then his ult ends. Does his health go back to the starting 100, or is reset to 500, or is proportional to his ult health (500*0.75=375)? Same question towards torbjorn and his turret.

Some ults like Torbjorn and bastion give you bonus armour instead of increasing your health IIRC.
From what I remember, torbjorn turret health stays proportional after the ult ends, although I could be wrong..
Because Reaper and Pharah ult are super random. I've had Pharah ults on a single target (not a Roadhog obviously) for almost the full duration and they've survive, and survived Reapers ulting me almost point-blank. Deflect only works on the shots that would hit you.
Does anyone know if D.Va's Defense Matrix will block projectiles going away from her? Last night I used it on 2 separate Reaper ults and it seemed to negate it entirely and I was pretty close to him so it's making me think it does.
Hey guys, coming over from SC2 and wanted to see what the Overwatch competitive scene is like. Is there a consensus on who the top teams / players are in terms of skill? Or is it too early to determine?
there have been a few really dominant teams in the beta. But right now things are shifting a little, because of the recent patch. Cloud9 (NA), Envyus (now NA) and Reunited (still EU) have been pretty dominant at the top. Some teams that can take games of of them, but winning a series against these 3 teams is rare. Gosugamers often shows tournaments atm on their channel and their site has some form of schedule for tournaments. There is a comp Overwatch reddit thingy ... but I avoid reddit.

Interesting, thanks! Are the east Asian teams (e.g. KR, China) jumping into the Overwatch pro scene? How would you estimate their skill relative to the NA / EU teams?
After Last patch, anyone else having trouble with their client?
Somehow mine must have something switched in the options that makes the game incompatible with my monitor. Unfortunately, the only way to potentially fix this is to adjust the options, which i can't see.
Here's a few questions I've had on my mind for a while:
I know the payload blocks D.Va's ult if you're on the other side of it, but what about Lucio's heal aura or Soldier 76's bionic heal?
Does Lucio's heal aura stack? That is, if there are 2 Lucios with their heal aura on, will a nearby ally heal twice as fast? How about 2 Mercys using their heal beam on the same ally?
Can Genji deflect attacks from an enemy Genji deflecting other attacks toward him? Does the damage just bounce back and forth until one deflect runs out? What if one of the Genjis is being damage amped by Mercy?
How does Lucio's boop work? It really seems like when I use it, the target doesn't get pushed very far, but when others use it, they get knocked off ledges easily.
Does D.Va's Call Down Mech ult retain its charge when you die? For example, if my mech is destroyed, and I deal some damage and get 70% charge, then get killed. I respawn with the mech, and the mech is destroyed again. Will I have 70% charge yet? Will it reset and I have to charge it from 0 every time?
Can a Mei build an ice wall on top of another Mei's ice wall?
How does Mercy's guardian angel work? It seems like sometimes I go to the targeted ally easily, and other times I fall short, sometimes dying in a pit as a result. Does holding down shift or jumping make any difference?

I'm pretty sure both Lucio and 76's stuff goes through walls.
Genji can deflect stuff from another Genji. Not sure if Mercy can up the damage on deflect.
D.Va will start with 0 ultimate charge when she is knocked out of her mech every time.

Holding shift makes you go to Mercy's target, if you hit shift again in the middle you will drop.

Oh thanks. I bet in panic I press the button multiple times and that's why it doesn't work sometimes.
Lucio's auras and 76's healing station require LoS to function, though auras from Lucio (heals from other healers) remain for a second or 2 after breaking LoS to the source. So no, they do not work through walls aside from that small grace period. Ok, wtf is up with landing Roadhog's hook -> left click combo? Hooking stationary training bots will always pull them into the middle of the screen, right on the crosshair, for an easy shot. BUT hooking moving targets, I had one get pulled all the way towards the left side of the screen, one towards the right, and I even had one end up BEHIND me (like wtf?). This shit feels random, do you really expect me to hook -> quick 180 -> shoot?
Is there some way to predict where the target ends up on the screen after the hook so I can adjust my crosshair right on the target for the left click combo? If not, I'm guessing that's the reason why I'm missing my shots at point blank, and why when I get hooked by enemy Roadhogs I sometimes don't die and escape (...or they were 0/4 ammo reloading).

Apparently moving in a certain direction is what causes them to pull to the side/behind you. If you start moving backwards right as you pull it fixes most of it. It mainly affects Tracer and Lucio pulls I think.
Also in Roadhog v Roadhog the one who opens with hook loses a perfect fight.

Holy shit, walking backwards does fix this, except in rare instances where the target clips a wall during the pull. Thanks, I needed this, now I'm a Roadhog expert!
And I meant left click instead of right click, but you knew what I meant. Edited my original post.

docs.google.com This is from a guy on the Overwatch Academy Reddit, best guide I've found. Learning the 90 degree turn to pull closer was useful along with the walking back thing. Also, watching moonmoon can be useful on occasion

Great read. I tried doing the 90 degree turn pulls, but can't do them consistently, especially in the heat of battle. I might just stick to walking backwards. Sure, I get the opponent 1 meter closer and can get several more pellets worth of damage, but I run the risk of partially or completely missing the shot. But yea, for Roadhog mains this is a great trick.
I wanna know if there is a chance of finding & watching Overwatch pro's playing in their perspective in game client like we do in Dota 2. This tool is very good for learning.
I also would like to know competitive twitch & best pro players twitch.
Can anyone confirm something that I think I've seen happen in games but I'm not sure if it's true. If a Zarya shields someone who's stuck with a Tracer ult does it do damage at all? I know the shielded target won't take damage but I don't think anyone takes damage, even people right beside the stuck target.

If there's such a tool I'm not aware of it.
As for streamers, your best bet is probably Seagull he streams quite a lot and generally plays everything except for healers, Tracer and Widow. I've seen Surefour stream a bit recently too, he'd be a good addition to your watchlist because he plays a lot of Tracer and Widow. As for other pros, some of the other C9 guys stream from time to time, I've also seen Taimou stream. Shadder2k is a really good Genji, don't know much about his other heroes though. Non-pros who are good (in my opinion) and stream a lot are MoonMoon (mostly tanks) and ster.

Zarya shield acts like a wall, not just a single target block, so any AoE has an entire radius behind the Barriered target which is blocked off.
I think the hitbox on it is larger than it looks as well.
I'm a little confused about how point capture works.. Does the percentage bar increase for defending team if one team member is inside the point? After you capture and control a point, is it unnecessary to have at least one player remain inside the point?

You mean king of the hill points?
Once you own it it will always tick up to 100% regardless of how many people are on it or not until it flips.
If you are talking 2cp (hanamura/volskaya type control points) then 3 people caps faster than 1 or 2 and any defender on it will stop the point from collecting any progress.
Ok so I've been out of the loop for a while, these Olympic skins, can you keep them equipped after 22nd August or are they like the TF2 Halloween items which you can only equip at a certain time?

1) On PC you hold down the C key to see the communication wheel and choose "emote" and your character will do their emote. I believe this is what you were looking for.
2) yes, everything goes through your allies and hits enemies if they are meant to hit your enemy (ana being the exception)

Question: If you are able to reach Diamond during the season, but at the end, you go down to Plat. Do you get 1200 points at the end of the season or 800 ?
So I started playing overwatch again and decided to look at some of the streamers and stumbled upon Cooller. Then i dug around and saw rapha and dehang on TL which blew my mind. My question is, how are these quake players faring in this game? Aside from the mentioned players, I'm thinking about players like av3k and cypher. I didn't see evil on a team though.
Also which players from other games (tf, cs, quake, etc) have had the most success so far?
I just started playing again. Which chars are the best at median elo atm? (Didn't follow the patches since mccree nerf of long range left click) Are duoQ harder? I had worse allies and couldn't micro so had an harder time winning in duo than solo so far. Edi: has bastion been buffed?

Bastion hasn't been touched.
Not sure why duo would be harder than solo.
Characters best at median elo, idk ones you know how to play? Zen/Ana/Lucio are still great supports. Reaper/McCree remain good DPS. Reinhardt/Roadhog remain good Tanks. Don't play any of the defense heroes unless you can hit mei right clicks (she would be the only exception to the rule).
If you plan on using Ana, please don't try to heal using scope. Just heal from the hip. Too many times I see fail Ana that are in scope mode nearly all the time and so incredibly far away.
I feel that scope mode is really for doing dps, and heals from the hip are the way to go.
But if you aren't comfortable with Ana, just go Lucio and run around the team. Your heals aren't the greatest, but if your team is smart they will know to retreat to the safety of your aura.
You can get away with using the scope for heals, my Ana is not too bad and I scope to heal fast moving, hard to predict characters like especially Genji and Tracer, and Pharah when she's at mid to long distance. Also if you really need one heal to get through fast you can quickscope. Perhaps if my projectile were better I could shoot from the hip more on those, but I find scoping to be more reliable and not as much of a hindrance as you might think, the scope comes up very quickly and goes away very quickly as well.
But it's true that the last thing you want to do as Ana is sit far away and heal from a distance. It'll prevent you from using your grenade effectively and your sleep darts.
As for which characters to use at mid Elo, I'll mostly go with Zero on this. I'd say a good Zen is the best way to have game impact that's conducive to ranking up as a support player. Reaper is the best way to go up as offense, and Reinhardt and Roadhog are the best way to go up as a tank.

I ended up 2000+ but my mate is 1500 so in duo we are playing around 1800 and players are worse. Since I can't use a mic, being a premade doesn't help much but having worse mates hinders me. I play Mccree/reaper/soldier now and it's fine when soloQing so I guess I'll just try not to lose too much ELO duoing.

I'm trying to find ways to improve my game, and I think mouse sensitivity might be one of them.
A big fat NO to using different sensitivities for different characters. A large portion of aiming comes from muscle memory, and having to adjust and relearn that for every hero you set differently sounds like a nightmare. However, thinking about what you want to play when choosing your sensitivity could be of some help, as certain characters like genji and tracer demand a high enough sens for quick 180s whereas a less nimble but more precise character like McCree enjoys a lower sensitivity for increased accuracy. Most importantly, however, is that the sense is comfortable to you. I personally use 800 dpi - 8 in-game sens.

From Gamepedia: "Armor: Whenever armor takes damage, it reduces the damage by half, but not by more than 5 damage per individual hit. This makes weapons that deal more than 10 damage per hit more effective at damaging armor, because more gets through with each attack. Critical hits double damage before any armor reduction."
So D.Va's effective HP is at least 500. Each direct rocket (base 120) will do 115 while she has armor and 120 without.
Yes, only shields regen. Natural armor (like D.va) can be healed but armor granted from Torbjorn cannot.
After you attack together as a team on the point and you personally die in-game. What is the rule of thumb on when to move into the point or to stay back and wait for your teammates to rez to push together? Like how many people need to be still alive to not wait for others and try to push in hoping that you can help enough to not make it more worth to wait for the remaining allies to die, thereby giving up the point and doing a concentrated 2nd push?
Does anyone know the speed payloads move with respect to the number of heroes nearby? Is it linear or diminishing returns? Is 1 hero 1/6 as slow as 6 heroes on the payload? Or will 4 heroes be the same speed as 5/6 heroes?
And when its being contested, does it require a 1:1 ratio to stop a payload from moving? Or can 1 hero stop it even if 3 opponents are near it? Of course those three will probably rip open that single hero, but I'm just curious.
I played a QM game where a single 76 pushed the payload nearly the entire length all by himself, while the 5 other members proceeded to massacre us before we could even see the payload.
That single 76 pushed it to the end very quickly, and that brought the question to mind.

Max payload speed is with 3 heroes, more does not effect it. 3 heroes is 25% faster than 1 hero, 2 heroes right in between that (I think, rough estimates).
If a payload or capture point is contested, no progress is made. Numbers from each team on point does not matter. Not to razz you or anything, but I'm shocked you don't know this one given the propensity for Lucio's to spend all game bouncing around the payload and block it.

LOL now that you mention it I remember a stupid Lucio stalling a payload all by himself. I wasn't paying attention to the cart though, I wanted to just kill that SOB
How does the ranking Works exactly? and whas a normal devation you can expect from your Rank up and down across seasons? Does Blizz resets MMR between seasons or just a soft reset or nothing?
I ask cause last season I was seeing changes of about 400 points. I would go down, then go back up to where I was, then go lower, stay there for a while, then back again. I though a range of 400 was kind of a lot, but I guess it's alright.
This ranked season however I got placed 700 points away from what I had last season, and I won 6 of the 10 placement matches, so it seems..weird. I also had more tan 50% winrate, not sure exactly what my % was, but it definitely was above 50.
not a simple question. And it was talked about in the general thread. They just realigned the population, so nothing changed except that they use the whole spectrum of the 5k points now.
ranking is just a normal Elo so win and you get points, depends on several factors how much you get. MMR is not reset. But they play around after each season so far.

It seems clumsy of them. People want to feel progress, if some guy with an arbitrary number of 2400 suddenly finds himself on 2100 and has trouble climbing up, they understandably feel bad. "Almost platinum" they'd feel... then, nope.
it is easier to climb though, since you get more points now. And there is no unclumsy way of doing it, after a season where most people placed way to high. Unless you want them upping it to 7k and no one will ever place 0-2k. Either way every season was weird with placements so far and they still need to figure it out. Just like they have to adjust 2cp a lil, heh. So it feels shorter.
Season 2 was rough because I had a long hard slide down the ladder despite becoming more accurate, better positioning, and general 'better' at the game. Perhaps it was also due to facing weaker opponents. Season 3 'feels' better because I'm slowly going up rather than continually sliding down.
I hear OverWatch is a pretty good game(correct me if I'm wrong); I'm looking for something me and my girlfriend can whoop each other's asses in, and OverWatch seems like the perfect game. I have a ps4 but I need a game that we can both play, and it has to be competitive as fuck,
is this the right game ?
How much does it cost and what do I need to starT?
Overwatch is actually a bad game if your desire is playing against specific people. Unless you've got a full squad of 12 people for a custom game, or are willing to consign yourself to 1v1 (which is really not the game), then there's actually no way to force someone to be on the opposing side.
I always get home, eat, turn on overwatch, then tell myself that I'll play a few games of QP to warm up and then go competitive, but pretty much never do in the end, because anxiety or god knows what.
The best part is, that every time I play competitive, I love it. I have no problems with talking to people, or taking the lead in the game (however limited my knowledge may be) and the games are always a challenge and are great fun, so much in fact that I don't even want to play QP anymore after I do play comp. But next day the same thing happens again.
Have a list detailing what you'll spend time on and write it down on a note next to your pc or something. Set an alarm on your phone. Little ways to nudge yourself towards competitive will help. If you know you like it, having a sort of anticipation for it might help. Or friend random people and plan a time to play competitive with them.
There is a charge. No charge is 25 damage per arrow, full charge is 75.
If you're point-blanking a squishy, 150 damage without a charge is good enough in a lot of cases, and a high damage instant shot with Hanzo is necessary a lot of times.
an enemy ana uses her grenade to your teammates, can an ana on your team heal your team if they are purple HP? or does the enemy's grenade that first took place take presidence ?
There is no interaction between enemy/allied biotic grenades at all. Enemy effect stops all healing, allied one doubles the healing amount, and 200% of 0 is still 0.
FG - EG = until the EG hits the 200% applies to FG (obvious)
EG - FG on top of it = Purple denies the initial FG heal, once the EG purple times out, the FG 200% healing is still active until it ends (so you can throw a grenade at a purple friendly 1 sec into purp, 2 sec purp and your grenade hits, 3 sec purp/1 sec friendly overlap, 2 seconds of 200% healing once the purp ends
I qued into a player who had platinum prestige and thought to myself. Will blizzard add a diamond prestige once more people get high level? It's not really of importance but I don't understand why they chose to stop the leveling process at plat prestige and not just go all the way to give people more to grind for. (e-fame basically)
I just noticed, is it true, that in Overwatch league not every team plays every other team? If yes, isn't it kind of weird - not to say ridiculously unfair?
There are 12 teams and they all play 10 games per stage, so each team does not play one team. For example, Boston Uprising and Shanghai Dragons do not play in the first stage, but they do play in week three of stage two. The team not played against probably has something to do with the divisions they drew up.
