Has anyone else experienced this shift in their viewership as well? Is it just because the game is new and still so unexplored? Is it true that possibly LotV has opened the game up so mistakes are actually entertaining instead of embarrassing and frustrating to watch?
Lower level matches more fun to watch in LotV?

When watching foreigners I felt like they knew what every unit of their race is supposed to do. Got worse when Kespa style training became more dominant, so I really lost interest in the korean scene. I mean they play amazing, but when they fail because they are sticking to one composition I get to frustrated to enjoy it. It's just my preferences, that prevents me from enjoying superior mechanical skill when it comes at the price of strategic decisionmaking. Also foreigners tend to make more cute plays, whereas most koreans have given up on it, because there is to little gain in it. Sucks that macro + a-move was so much better in HotS, then doing good micro. And now we have 1 button press micro in LotV. All is lost for awesome plays like in battle baneling burrow or cloaked seeker banshees or broodling producing creep tumors. To stay more on topic, I think foreigners catch up faster onto new things, while koreans need more time, but will also be more refined in what they do. So I think its just a short lived phenomenon.

Obviously we don't watch Bronze player, because we want to look at good execution and be inspired by what we see, but I think if you can only be aroused by Korean play, then I pitty you.

It's called "fluently strategy" and I have complained about it in sc2 for ~3 yrs. Same strategie but more fluently than someone else is a damn boring process over time. sc2 emphasizes too much on "only one fluently strategy is all what you need in sc2" in the past years. Player A wins with a better strategie than Player B. This is exciting to play and watch. Player A wins with a more fluently strategie than Player B (both are playing with same strategy). This is exciting at first glance but damn boring over time. ~95% of all games happens like the latter scenario.

New things are always shiny and exciting ("New is always better", as a well-known philosopher would say). I don't think we can make such judgements like in the OP for now.

HOTS was there, and LOTV will likely get to that point again in 6 months or so but I hope I'm wrong. Hopefully Blizz can shake things up by adding new units once in a while.

All of these are capable of doing stellar games where it looks like the latter scenario you described. And all of them can make things work when others cannot even though their plan was dismantled by player B. (I remember a game where Parting was hitting a timing 30 s later with blink stalkers. Everyone said he's supposed to lose. And then he showed the best micro of the day, probably month and won. Against a superior army. It wasn't fluent, it was full of errors, the build was broken, but he made it work. And that was the day I when I realized who's the one I was looking for ) The top players are capable of innovative approaches and great thinking. And they are sometimes stubborn(Parting vs Innovation on Catallena). I would use the term tunnel vision myself The last year(or was that the year before? not sure now, damn) I was regularly watching WCS EU and GSL. When GSL RO16 was on, WCS EU RO32 was on. In the morning I saw GSL, in the evening WCS. The difference was gigantic, the game pace, game speed... it was like they were playing on fast instead of faster, they had an agreement to not attack until 10 minute... it was frustrating to watch most of the time. It get better in RO8. And I remind you that I am talking about WCS EU with MC, MMA and others I agree what was already mentioned, that once the game is known better, the difference would rise again. Let's enjoy the foreigners playing some good games vs. Koreans until we lose it. And we will lose it

Ah WOL, when I could get wins against bronze terrains by going mass hydralisk alone. But anyways back to the main topic, I always liked watching both high level play and low level play. Bronze League Heroes (just by typing it, I hear Husky's scream,) was one of my favorite SC2 series. But, high level play was what got me into SC and is still amazing to watch. Also for the myth that Koreans have to have time to adapt, pull up some imba league or even clans wars to a lesser extent. I'm pretty sure there is some Koreans playing in the matches .

Matches get more variety, because of the mistakes, and due to the "low level" timings some builds are posible, builds that in a flawless excecution enviroment would just be forgoten by "natural selection".
