Because of the group draw I could see either Hydra or Snute not making it through, Lilbow can when hes on form beat either of them. Hoping for Snute and Lilbow making it through, but it will probably be Hydra and Snute, with Lilbow certainly capable of making it through at the expense of one of those two. Sorry Kelazhur but you drew a tough, tough group
Hydra and Snute the easy choice, but I could see Lilbow pulling out an upset over Snute. Kelazhur will have a tough time but he is looking promising so hopefully he does decently.
This is the hardest group of the WCS imo. I feel like Hydra and Snute are the easy pick here, but the PvZ of Lilbow is top notch and he has already beaten the two zergs on a regular basis. I feel sorry for Kelazhur but if he beats Lilbow in the first match, he is really capable of creating an upset. Lilbow and Hydra to advance.

I'd rather they both cast, tbh. They're definitely my favourite casting team. Alas, someone has to host and Apollo already hosted the season finals for season 1.

one can hope but alas, he ain't zerg
CatZ is a genius with coming up with builds tho, he can probably figure something out for Terran. He also has SuperNova and MaSa for practice. So really, Kelazhur should at least bring good play.

Think of ZvP Think of zerg being up in supply when spamming roaches Hellbats cost as much as a roch but don't cost gas Terran has mules.
it was more the angle and the choke I was thinking about tbh
:D Hellbats are the answer again haha They are like roaches without speed shitty shitty shitty range. they don't like chokes that much unless it's lings running in.

Yeah, the fact that he saw what Kelazhur was doing the whole game with his oracles / observers was huge.

To be fair I've watched zerg (I know there were none here) of all levels do that while they decide what tech switching they want to do. And protosses get to around that supply and then use constant warp ins to harrass

Hydra will very likely keep it on the edge of the cliff and slowly drift closer to the gas, especially on this map since the gasses are on only one side of the hatch.

The really crisp timing that wasn't a timing that works when the opponent doesn't make mistakes but it shouldn't work. Putting all the stuff the casters say in one sentance is funny.

I like Tastosis because they don't even bother with casting and just talk about video games and movies or joke when I watch the games.

They did cast the Code S Group A!
I missed this one live and then didn't watch VODs cause I'm still salty.

He'd played it a few times. I don't think he's used it significantly more than Roach/bane or roach/hydra though.
It's cause it's very Snute like (turtley defensive shit) The biggest name he played in zvz a lot (recently) is TRUE and he always did it vs him (cause TRUE always did the 5 gas mass roach thing)

Well I guess. Even one-eyed his minimap awareness is better than MarineKing's.
How sick would it be if someone could lock one eye onto the minimap and process information out of that eye independently of his other eye which is doing all the micro/macro work. Sick sity I tell ya.

Well I guess. Even one-eyed his minimap awareness is better than MarineKing's.
How sick would it be if someone could lock one eye onto the minimap and process information out of that eye independently of his other eye which is doing all the micro/macro work. Sick sity I tell ya.

Oh god what if I found this mythical eye independent person and he had like 10 fingers?!

Best odds are definitely hidden in those hills somewhere.

...Thats only one state away from me!!
But we need to know if that level if inbreeding would so negatively impact their brain functions that the ability to independently track the minimap while having over double the available number of fingers would wash out.

that was more bad control from mr snute than great one from kelthuzad meh actually he did control them pretty well. still snute should not have lost that queen

Here's a great idea. He's in the studio. They could ask him. Of course, if he doesn't win a series today he won't be allowed to talk.
Actually, that's some point I got, why don't they copy Korean leagues and interview everyone before the games begin? <.<
My guess is for many of these players they don't have a ton of offline experience so they'd prefer to not bother the players and make them any more nervous than they already are

But there is no storyline when you realize that only Snute or Bunny stand even close to a chance to make Blizzcon, and Snute pretty much loses that chance if he loses here

I thought the Hydra/Snute games were pretty decent. Even if the current ZvZ meta is kind of boring.
First game was Hydra being slightly too greedy for no obvious reason. Second game was Snute doing the exact same thing but Hydra wasnt greedy, then Snute lost cus of bad tech decisisions and losing 10 drones to burrow roaches in a meta where burrow roaches are really common. Then they both pretty much sucked at executing their play for the first 10 minutes, then hydra did the exact same thing he did in game 2 that snute lost to, except snute tried to be even greedier in his tech than then

That's why I really hate this new format. Because theres only one really good opportunity for foreigners to get points any single loss is crippling. Compared to the 6 korean leagues

yeah probably Bunny, though Harstem seems equally capable of deep runs in tournaments against Koreans

That's also a product of if a nonKorean gets in its just barely meaning they play the first or second seeds. But the bottom half of the seeds are doable opponents for any foreigner good enough to get there in the first place.
Currently the back half of players are Hydra, Rain, Stats, Dark, Fantasy, Rouge, Soulkey, Innovation, Gumiho.
A few of those guys stick out as far better than their points indicate but Fanta/SK/Gumiho/Hydra are far from unbeatable as a foreigner

He is. When I was watching his stream Happy kept wrecking him on ladder though.
happy is always top4 of ladder and always outside of it in tournaments. It's been like that since the dawn of man lol
If only someone could say to Happy not to forget to make SCVs, he would have been a consistent contender for the title of best foreigner with is insane micro.

I'd say at the top of the top it definitely is but as it pretty much always has been the "lower tier" Koreans still pretty close.

Garbage is a bit harsh man, he nearly beat Hydra in the first match
The first one was basically a BO win cus he did a roach timing that hydra was a bit greedy against. Not too much skill involved there. Then he proceeded to do the exact same build for the next 2 games, except it didnt work cus hydra wasnt greedy. After every time they went into a stable midgame, snute got completely outplayed in terms of tech decisions and even army control/position. Not to mention 2k minerals 0 gas in the last game. On a decent day he would EASILY predict his lack of gas, and at least make more spines since his entire plan was to not move out until he had T3 upgrades and roach hydra infestor anyway

Last year the Koreans that went to WCS EU played on ladder. This year there are no Koreans in EU, and no one in NA plays on NA ladder (including the Koreans and foreigners - so long as they live on East/West).

lilbow would, assuming he was good at this game. no probe production while consistently floating 100-150 minerals with his pressure, making a random 5th gate that was way too late to be relevant, and late teching made this game much closer than it should be. and it still isnt particularily close

I feel like Idra needs to get in there somewhere. Pretty good GSL performances, an IEM Gold. And Sen. Sen while barely playing is still a champion. IIRC the tournament he won in HotS was played in between him placing well or winning a HS tournament

Aside the fact that the game started with a BO loss for hydra, do you have any suggestion? Roach hydra is still the best midgame composition against mass stalkers.

But who's actually winning?
lilbow would, assuming he was good at this game. no probe production while consistently floating 100-150 minerals with his pressure, making a random 5th gate that was way too late to be relevant, and late teching made this game much closer than it should be. and it still isnt particularily close

because it's the only composition that works without a huge lead

You usually die if you try to get anything else, and i guess people still keep opening that Blizzard unit description list and find themselves thinking that making lots of the unit that hardcounters the entire protoss army should work

Especially right now without any Swarmhost late game, a lot of times you get forced into roach hydra to survive mid game and then have to all-in from there cause you're not in a position to transition into a viable late game from there.
Other than the games, is anybody else impressed by the production? I feel like they stepped it even up. I enjoyed the little video clips at the beginning a lot and the new animations look great imo.

u should just all be like Life, open 3 hatch before pool every game and win GSL, then drop out vs proxy 2gate

but I'm sure you could coach pros to do better
that's not true though
So what do you make? Infestors? It's not very good because the blink stalker timing hits when you have 1 fungal per infestor which makes them basically useless.

I feel like Idra needs to get in there somewhere. Pretty good GSL performances, an IEM Gold. And Sen. Sen while barely playing is still a champion. IIRC the tournament he won in HotS was played in between him placing well or winning a HS tournament
Yeah id change out Jinro and Scarlett for Idra and Sen. My memory is hazy about Jinro, but did he do anything after his GSL runs? Runs that were based on terran favoured maps with a pretty new greedy macro terran style that no one else really did and knew how to play against yet, mind you

5 years ago, no one knew how to beat Stalker sentry, not really. Luckily not many people knew how to micro and FF so it was ok.
Then they got good, but it was ok cause Stephano made the fast 3 base max roach.
But then Protoss got better, but that was ok because of infestor/bl.
But then HotS came out, but it was ok cause no one really knew what they were doing.

You can either wait for some other player to solve it, gamble (like what Byul/Dark did in Kespa Cup) or try to jump on the other player making mistakes.
In a theoretical sense there are no good answers for Zerg in the current meta.

Kalhazur is pretty good. He was the runner up of last season's breaking out. Frankly he was the better overall player. It was only his abysmal TvT (at the time) that let him down vs intense in the finals.

Then Stalker/sentry got good, but it was ok because SH existed.
Now SH don't exist.
so solution is get good?

Wasn't this build better against protoss?
Well It's good against both really, But it got famous for beating Marineking and innovation. You are right tho in that protosses veto the map too, though for them it's also because of gold bases and hard to defend thirds
Yes. Thought it was gonna be the same old story where the foreigner takes the first game then gets rekt in the last two. Just need Kelthurzad to come through

It's not your fault, never in the history of sc2 has anyone but protoss enjoyed watching protoss win. Protoss has been villainized since WoL beta 4 gate lol

Did you enjoy herO beating Curious on Foxtrot Labs with one carrier?
Okay, fine, 1 in like 100 games Protoss can be fun, but most of the time it's just not cool.
but you feeling like this is also why it's impossible to take any of your "criticism" of Protoss play seriously. You'll always twist events and facts to suit your own worldview and it's pretty annoying and whiny.

Yeah, leaving the natural was a bit perplexing. Did he not have any Roach Warren thrown down?
He did start one, so he probably could have made roaches by the end.
Interesting. Ah well, what's done is done. Lilbow played well and moves on to the Ro16. I'm not too sure how well Hydra will do this season if he keeps playing like he did in game 3. But you never really know with pro-gamers.

Its only fun if you don't think about it. Because if you realize that you're beating players roughly at your level with an off race proxy its kind of angering.

I beat a Zerg objectively better than me going mass +3 stalkers. I didn't scout once, I lost my 3rd several times, I lost tons of probes to the mutas I didn't scout, but in the end none of that mattered because my army was unbeatable.

TBH I don't get cheesed enough on ladder. I was thinking about this a few days ago. The only matchup I get cheesed is ZvZ and literally 99% of my games I get speedling all ined. I rarely get cheesed in any meaningful way so I never get to test my crisis management.

TBH I don't get cheesed enough on ladder. I was thinking about this a few days ago. The only matchup I get cheesed is ZvZ and literally 99% of my games I get speedling all ined. I rarely get cheesed in any meaningful way so I never get to test my crisis management.
Also its my way of feeling better about dealing with mech

Its only fun if you don't think about it. Because if you realize that you're beating players roughly at your level with an off race proxy its kind of angering.
Don't think, only proxy
I beat a Zerg objectively better than me going mass +3 stalkers. I didn't scout once, I lost my 3rd several times, I lost tons of probes to the mutas I didn't scout, but in the end none of that mattered because my army was unbeatable.
Its both a wonderful and maddening feeling
I 13pool on Expedition Lost because 3/4 games there are either proxy 2gate or cannon rush. Little do the Russian protosses know.

Thats really weird, I'm at that same point (hovering around top 5 diamond) and I just rarely get cheesed. Every so often I get DTs that I stupidly didn't scout. Or once I lost to a mass oracle phoenix build because its the most counter-intuitive stargate strats ever

I understand, though my criticisms of Protoss are why I don't enjoy it.

I blame the ridiculously long breaks between games. I mean LCS EU, which started at the same time, just ended.

You might be confusing this thread with the letting off steam thread. That would be understandable, considering you're in there bitching about the game all day and all night.

To be fair he's not wrong. Terran was already the bad ass one, the zerg was always the one to root for because it was the weakest (like Nestea/Fruitdealer) and protoss was widely considered the more evil/villain/cheesey ones

There is no better feeling than opening up the big book. When I'm angry at laddering as a Zerg player I unranked protoss and beat on people with hilarious proxies
Have you guys all forgotten about the golden rule? "One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself"

That sounds like a lot of fun actually..... Hmmm
And then, since I was on another account and doing placement matches, I commited the worst offense. 1 base blink all-inned a bronze league Terran.
My last placement match is always vs a protoss who 1 bases me to death.
To be fair, it's not my fault a bronze league Terran decided to go quick 3 CC on Expedition Lost.
yeah iirc the game I lost this past season I went for greedy play as well ^ not 3 cc though, more like 1 rax FE

It's not your fault, never in the history of sc2 has anyone but protoss enjoyed watching protoss win. Protoss has been villainized since WoL beta 4 gate lol
You might be confusing this thread with the letting off steam thread. That would be understandable, considering you're in there bitching about the game all day and all night.
Every thread is the letting off steam thread when a protoss plays

what happens in the blowing off steam thread after a ladder session stays in the blowing off steam thread
Regarding that statement, I did admit to slightly exaggerating the "no one but protoss likes watching protoss win" part. But im pretty sure no one can legitimately say protoss is not by far the most villainized race in sc2, and that parts of the community dislike protoss by default because of this

To be fair he's not wrong. Terran was already the bad ass one, the zerg was always the one to root for because it was the weakest (like Nestea/Fruitdealer) and protoss was widely considered the more evil/villain/cheesey ones
The fact that this community has problems with fairness doesn't exonerate him from being continually insufferable to read.

He beat ForGG with it in WCS 2013 Season 1 Ro8. He tried it again later in the series but it didn't work.
Kelazhur is playing way worse against hydra than snute. Almost feels like he is purposefully throwing. I don't think he lost 1 of his three reapers against snute, but loses one against hydra....hmmmm

He didn't transform his hellions into hellbats to kill hydra's third. He woulld have been massively ahead.

I think you, and the casters, underestimate transform time. The roaches were right there, if he had taken the time to transform the roaches would have been right on top of the hellbats

Korea may very well slump as a nation. More evidence must be gathered. But France is easily number one nation, always has been in fact with such greats like Stephano, Adelscott and Diestar.

For a long time, I thought Frederik Chopin was French and not Polish. It seems that Diestar is your Chopin.
Seriously, how can Kelazhur play so well against Snute and so badly against Hydra? It's not a difference in skill of the two zergs, the decision making is significantly worse.

1-1 speedroach isnt thaaaat all in, and it sets up pretty nicely for the roach/bane corruptor midgame, which is really strong in heads up engagements
he didn't really lose anything vs such a comitted attack (kay, not all-in then ) and then he just lost. so what happened?
1-1 speed roach is a godlike opening
Can confirm. It also has the funny tendency to make Terrans insult you.
You know, in all the games I've played, no matter what my opponents did... I've never once insulted them. Not once. Not even if they insulted me first. Just GG and leave if I lose or say nothing if I win. And then you have players that reply with "Fuck you" to "gl hf".

Part of the reason the build works is because it looks like roaches or a ling/bane bust. It doesn't give off the "I NEED TURRET" alarms

Korea may very well slump as a nation. More evidence must be gathered. But France is easily number one nation, always has been in fact with such greats like Stephano, Adelscott and Diestar.
are you sure Diestar is French or am I missing a joke
it's a joke on how he got into 2013 nation wars bcuz French voted him over Tefel who was beating him 3-0 with roaches
Tefel beats everyone with roaches though, does it really count
it does if you call it a stupid strategy that shouldn't work and call your opponent bad and then lose 3 games in a row to a 2 base speed roach bust
ah right, outplayed and outsmarted
the best part is he called it bad when dying in game 2 or 3 (can't remember)
didn't he then proceed to get rekt during Nation Wars

K seemed to lose some of his sharpness after his match with S, while H was playing fine, leading to two straight macro victories. It never really seemed like H was in major trouble in either game.
In the first game, H went for a Roach 1/1 timing that killed some SCV's and did some damage, giving H a slight advantage. From there, H went for a Roach/Zergling/Baneling composition while taking a quick fourth base. K tried to break him at several points, sometimes going for multi-pronged attacks through drops before anti-air was out, and was somewhat successful in disrupting mining, but H always had enough everywhere to defend before he lost anything critical. After H added corruptors, going for a Dark-style, K started to lose steam fast and lost many medivacs. H seized his opportunity and went for the kill after maxing out on Roach/Zergling/Baneling.
In the second game, K seemed to get off a decent start by getting 3 OC's quickly himself and delaying the third base for H for a while due to massing Hellions, but it was all for naught when H surprised him with 8 muta's in his base. They killed 18 SCV's in their initial run, and kept on threatening every part of K's base. Due to his build he barely had any marines or missile turrets out, so H was able to find huge damage with his slowly-expanding muta flock. From there, H quickly started upgrades and massing zergling/baneling to deal with any attacks that K tried, and easily crushed them due to a far superior economy. K was slightly ahead in upgrades, but after the Muta's killed the engineering bays and H's own 2/2 finished, all hope was lost. H made a huge army including about 50 banelings, and crashed into barely ~60 army supply to completely decimate both the army and all the workers for the final GG of the night.
