They do not need the best team in Europe's best centre half?
Varane - struggling in Real Madrid, also wants out of their supposedly Umtiti - Can't get into the Barca team due to being replaced by Lenglet another French centre half (who is not in the squad) Kimpembe - Who in reality isn't near Laporte's league right now Zouma - Lost his place in Everton's team now who is on loan from Chelsea.
Yes i don't see any of those better than Laporte at all.

They didn't have Laporte when they won the WC.
I don't understand why not calling Laporte is going to start a crisis and tear the team apart.

I think the point hes trying to make is that the players they had in the WC are not upto scratch at the moment. And he has a point. I dont neccesarily agree with him, that the team is falling apart, but I do think that Laporte is good enough to be in the France squad. Best in the world etc etc, I cant say. But none of y'all are addressing his points.
"Well they didnt need him at the Worldcup" is a lazy answer.

I meant as falling apart as well as it is what happens with the French national teams. The 98 world cup win into complete embarassment after that with the same stupidly packed squad was all due to in house bickering which they are known to do.
Laporte the best CB in the world is now banned from the team under Deschamps who has also made decisions like this with other players (who aren't as good). So there is an aura of the same thing might happen. Don't forget they lost in the UEFA Nations League already and didn't get out of the group, albeit they didn't get relegated either though.

Ok that was me getting confused with 2000 win turning into embarrassment at 2002 world cup, then the next EUROs they lost to Greece and went out early. With the same squad from 98 basically.

1. you're wrong on 2004. (even the 2002 team was really different from the 1998 team already) 2. This was one of the youngest squads in the WC, it doesn't make sense to bring someone who's whining when you got two world classes left CB baring injuries and Kimpembe isn't bad either. Anyway the left CB not called Umtiti is gonna sit on the bench since Varane-Umtiti is a proven duo that has 0 reason to change in the next 10 years except for injuries/drop of form. 3. Our only over 30 players in the starting eleven are Giroud (Mbappe should take n°9 at some point in his career which will need a system change) and Lloris who still has a few years left at the top lvl. 2020 and 2022 are definitely winnable with almost the same squad and we have a depth unheard of for our national team with top players in many positions and several of them for some (Lenglet/Umtiti/Laporte/Hernandez for left CB is ridiculous) 4. if you even start to bicker with Deschamps you're out (Laporte/Benzema/Rabiot eg)

When they change nationality, because they don't find a spot in their "original" national team, there is usually barely anyone caring about it. But when they change nationality (or decide for one of their multiple nationality) to play for a "better" national team... yeah, there is quite some shit storm.
So when a Podolski or an Özil decided to play for Germany, there was a decent amount of complaining from the Polish/Turkish side. While usually nobody gives a damn, when players who were eligible to play for Germany decide to play for whatever else because they don't see a chance in the German squad. An interesting example would be probably the newest super star of Barcelona, Kevin Prince Boateng, who unlike his brother decided to play for Cameroon, because he saw no future in the German NT. In winter sports there is also a quite well known guy in Biathlon, who suddenly took the Belgian citizenship because he had a grandma over there. And nobody was really bitter at him.
Most of those cases also pretty clearly show: It is usually not even that easy to assign players to one nationality. So the borders become blurry.
One might add, that the acceptance of pure sports mercenaries in Germany isn't the highest though: E.g. in figure skating, where the top pair of Germany is a Ukrainian and a French, you will hear very mixed responses of "how German" people feel that pair is. But unlike the cases of an Özil or Podolski or whoever, this is mostly as people really see no connection to Germany whatsoever with this pair. There are some other sports, where we have most sports mercenaries too, but they barely make it into the spot light.

The problem is that he didn't get the double nationality when he was living in Spain (He could back then) and now he is in England. Of course he didn't get the double nationality because he wanted to play with France.

The centre back who can play left back who was rumored to Bayern for ages for a crazy fee. Not sure why Bayern throwing so much money at this guy, they could have got the two best CBs from Bundesliga and still have change left for that fee. Interesting.
