“When training, pro-gamers are looking at their monitor for many hours every day,” said Jong-hyun Jung, IM Team’s all-star member. “IPS monitors have color rendering that is extremely good, and the image processing capabilities are perfect for RPGs. LG’s IPS has also eliminated the blur generated from rapid motion in video games. This puts less strain on my eyes, even when I put in a lot of hours.”
there's pretty much no way he actually said this. it's actually pretty hilarious
if anything he said something like "mmm ahhhhh they tinted the screen so my eyes won't hurt. sounds gosu!"

I'm taking a wild guess, but my interpretation of them using RPG instead of RTS in the PR announcement is that whatever technology they developed to reduce eye strain was done with RPG players in mind, particularly MMO games (which I believe are very popular in both Korea and Asia in general). It just happens to translate well to RTS pro-gamers, who also spend long periods of time in front of the screen due to their practice schedules.
Assuming that's correct, I'm not all surprised if LG just stuck to their standard marketing, continuing to emphasize their screens as ideal for RPG players.

Ha thought the speculative thread was good enough, but still, this is awesome to hear, hopefully the competition drives more big sponsors! One can only hope :D

This. Is. HUGE.
Guess it makes sense for LG, an international company. SC2 is still very western-centric, no reason for companies like SKT to enter into SC2, yet.

official announcement in korean on lg's twitter
pls retweet. Show them that we care!

yeah i hear their IPS monitors are top notch for RPGs(Role-Playing Games), so if you play them, please check out LG!!
in all seriousness, this guy translated an interview with the IM head coach about the LG sponsorship and how it affects the team as a whole. i.e. player salaries, LoL team, etc. hint: it is much more informative than this impressive official press release

IM has switched to WoW!!!!!11111

I hope it's more than just monitors and someone tells them what RPG means asap
edit: read the coaches interview, way more informative. This has got to be the worst press release i've seen in a while

Woah, wonderful!
Quite Nice to see Another huge company sponsoring a korean team. Good choice too, IM has quite an international reach.

Eh, cut them some slack, RTS and RPGs are both TLAs that start with the same letter, english isn't their first language. That statement isn't false, just out of place.

I love LG products, they been such a good electronic company. Glad their sponsoring IM and recognizing esports!

LG is awsome I had all their stuff while I lived in Korea. Internet, tv, IPTV and stuff. Except their phone company is the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Wow! That's awesome! Too bad I mainly play RTS/FPS and not RPGs, so guess I'll have to pick up an EIZO instead of an LG then!
|
I don't know how much of a factor in regards to eye strain that IPS monitors will bring, but IPS monitors ARE really nice... Great viewing angles, great color gamut, and now of days decent/good-enough response time = beauty
