He had a 2-0 lead against TaeJa initially, but his play slipped later on so I think he has to work on maintaining his lead, but defeating TLO for HSC is a nice start. His play today was a vast improvement over day 1, so he has a good chance of attaining the Ro4. I hope he can draw another zerg for his ro8 match up(probably the only time I've hoped to have a ZvZ to watch lol). Though the fact that he could get 2-0 up on TaeJa I think shows he does have some good ZvT he just needs to finish better. 3-0'ing Bischu also helps me relax a bit with his ZvP after the shaky day 1. Aslong as he doesn't draw Stardust or Alicia for his ro8 opponent I think it should be clear sailing for him, and even facing them he is still favoured imo just not as clearly.

Edit: Awhh fuckk they changed it... It's HyuN against Stardust in ro8 now T.T Much MUCH harder opponent especially considering HyuN's shaky play against Protoss...I still have complete trust that he will win, just a little bit nervous now though..

The tears in the LR thread were delicious and I'm a Protoss player haha! HyuN played really, really well. Though after watching San dismantle DRG with a very similar to Stardust style but more refined and better exceuted.. It's a bit worrying!

Games were pretty mediocre as far as HyuN goes, he just wasn't engaging properly and the last game had me saying wtf because he didn't even build Overlords when badly supply blocked. I hope he takes this as a moment to take a break from tournaments and rest for a while, because I think attending every European tournament is exhausting his play. This sums it all up pretty nicely, Artosis owes HyuN 7,000$(1st place is 10k he gets 3k for 3rd/4th) And HyuN needs to take a break from travelling and refocus/relax a bit, or he is gonna go full MC! Still not a bad result all things considered though top 4 isn't bad at all. Every European Tournament he went too he's gotten atleast top 8 and won one iirc. So not a bad haul!

Yep I hope Quantic protect their investment and give Hyun some time to rest up and not have to fly around to every tournament. I guess the problem is that he is the face of quantic when it comes to SC2 so if they want their name to be out there then Hyun needs to play. Still my favourite player I hope Asus releases some replays for me to study...maybe not the San games.

Have to disagree about the "mechanical" part because I barely see any other Zerg macro was well as HyuN can. As far as his smarts go, HyuN has always been on top of his tactics and knows some really fascinating tricks to get ahead in most ways and has some decent engagement skills. His real problem from attaining consistency has been his tendency to sacrifice either his mechanics or his intelligence for the other, and it often results in him losing. As I said, if he rests for a while and works on maintaining both simultaneously, I think we should have HyuN in tip-top form again.

Yeh have to agree his macro is unbelievable at times and it lets him play zerg styles that others just can't. His main problem at GSL was nerves I think, he just seemed to be a bit rattled playing on stage. However this seems to have abated a little bit. I think he just needs a break to recharge the batteries and he will be in tip-top form again. To be honest he won dreamhack and got top 4 at Asus which is pretty fucking good. The random ZvP loses were I think due to tiredness.

The only thing holding HyuN back from truly being recognized as a great macro player with amazing mechanics is his nerves. Like in that last series against san when he completely forgot to build over lords for a stupidly long time. People see that and just assume his mechanics aren't up to par, which as some one who watches him all the time knows that's bull shit. When he is playing relaxed and confident his mechanics are easily some of the best in the world if not the best for zerg imo.

The bold part is the reason for the "maybe not"... and that happened often lately where he got supply blocked for a few mins multiple times. And to be honest, I don't think hyun has even a lil bit nerves problem. I would put him in the ranks of mvp when it comes to that. But phoenix has a point: he indeed has the tendency to sacrifice either his mechanics or his intelligence for the other. I was at Assembly, and it's just so true. When he wasn't playing, he was joking with other players, always smiling etc. What a cool guy E: Got his autograph too!
