What's fun for you? In gaming terms i mean. The reason i ask this question is because of the fact that everyone enjoys gaming in different ways. And i'd like to know what you guys do to have fun? I know that some people have fun by just playing. Playing with no goals in mind and just enjoying the game, while others play with goals in mind. Personally i can't play a game by just goofing around i just can't enjoy games that way. I always play to achieve something, whether it's unlocking gold guns in cod or passing difficult campaign missions. Or maybe even just finishing off with a victory in a match. I like to try and achieve something while i play.... always. It just makes the game so much more fun when you complete challenges or do something awesome.
By the way if you feel like the theme of this blog is boring then i wanna let you know that i feel for you lol. I make boring blogs but i just get an urge to write stuff sometimes :p
Alright so jumping abit off topic i just wanted to share that today i decided to play some cod 4 again, since i hadn't played it in ages. And i was kinda suprised at how much fun i had playing the game. Normally you would think that old games are boring because theire outdated but if it's one thing i've discovered during this year then it is the fact that simple games are the best games (not always but most of the time) And the reason i enjoyed cod 4 so much was because it was so simple, yet so fun. There was no fancy killstreaks or fancy perk setups. It kinda felt like a true war. And the maps.... man cod 4 got the greatest maps man im not even kidding lol strike, block, downpour, wetwork and many more awesome maps. I even bough the mw2 dlc a few months ago just so i could get the cod 4 maps on that game ;D
And also im pretty sure none of you have heard about this game before but i've also played a game called mark of the ninja, and once again it's a perfect example of a cheap and simple game that is incredibly fun to play. It's an arcade game with several different mission that relies on you not being spotted and rewards you for being stealthy. ill link you a video if you're curious about this game. + Show Spoiler + If you want to buy the game yourself it's currently being sold on the xbox marketplace for 1200 ms points.
And that concludes my blog. It's realy cool to see that sometimes old and cheap games can give you just as much entertainment as new and expensive games.

The fun is getting into the zone, forgetting about the rest of the world, finding that point of utter focus and experiencing your thinking fused together with acting. Once you achieve that, even losing the game in the end doesn't feel bad.

Mark of the ninja is an amazing game, it's actually getting pretty well known as its such a well done stealth based experience.

I have the most fun when teamwork actually works (Dota), when iam able to keep my crosshair exactly onto the enemys body no matter if hes strafing with a pistol or not (CS:S) and last but not least when iam "in the zone" in sc2 , my macro is perfect while the terran is dropping me and iam creeping the hole map.
Long story short i have the most fun when i play "THIS ONE GAME" who everyone is playing games for, when everything just fits and works.
|
I have the most fun when I'm not taking a game seriously but still doing somewhat well.
|
It depends on my mood. Like there are days I just wanna be try hard and play a competitive game and I get a thrill out of that. Like SC II. There are other times I just want to enjoy a great story, like a Final Fantasy, or mass effect. Sometimes I just wanna own bad guys so I play batman lol.

strike, block, downpour, wetwork Other than strike, those are terrible maps To each their own though.
The call of duty franchise innovated once in their entire series, and that was cod4, and it's by far the best game in the series Anyway, I enjoy a game that either immerses me in a good story, or one that gives me a sense of accomplishment. Or I guess one that gives me a sense of wonder but that's really rare.

i love splitting marines against banelings off creep

What do you want? It's an FPS. It's been a lot more innovative in it's iterations than say, Counter-Strike.
Also, you are wrong. The first Black Ops has been the best Call of Duty so far. Unless you're talking about single player campaign, which I'm not sure why you would.
Honestly the most fun I've had gaming has been playing Call of Duty with my friends. It's not even because the game is good, it's just really a social thing. It could easily be another multi-player game.

It depends on my mood. I either like competition (clear cut mechanics, so the better man wins). Sometimes though, I prefer a good story. In Single Player game, I prefer a good story over a high level of difficulty. If I want something tough, I'll go play against other players.

Good enough.
Regardless comparing it to CS is unfair for many reasons. I think the main one is, the "iterations" of CS were mostly patches, and some vastly improved versions. They were free for the most part. All the retail releases were entirely revamped with strongly modified or entirely different engines. CS:S was a disaster, sadly. CSGO is pretty damn good and was only like $12. Meanwhile, COD re-released the same game every year with minor improvements, always at full retail price.
Certainly COD was more "innovative" than CS during its life... but CS, beyond its release, never wanted to innovate. It's a game for old grumpy purists like myself. It's a good game, rather than a funky arcade thing to play with the bros and for Activision to make money by selling content patches for $60 a pop.
Lastly I want to specify that when I yield the fact that COD has been more innovative *in its iterations* than CS, it's important to stress that CS is more innovative than COD anyway. CS invented something. COD didn't - it executed existing things with a varying degree of success.

You just can't argue that CoD isn't a fun game. It's the most popular game of our generation. It's not the marketing campaigns that keep people playing for hours and hours.
People who play CoD justify spending a lot of money on the game because they know they are going to get good value out of it. So many gamers have had the experience of buying a game at full retail price, and realising it only keeps them entertained for a few precious hours. A game that gives you hundreds of hours of gameplay is worth more money.
Don't even get started on companies, evil companies, wanting to make.....money.
Some "sticks" I've had a lot of fun playing with.

Some "sticks" I've had a lot of fun playing with. I can't argue that CoD isn't a fun game because it's popular? The most common argument to prove that wrong is "You can't prove that Justin Bieber's music isn't good because he's popular". Sure, COD is popular. I also don't enjoy it, because I sincerely think it's a bad game.
As for the business side of things, I think it's important to note. Not only is the game bad, but on top of it the "evil companies who want to make money" are exploitative and pedatory. Now I understand life and I know that companies need to make money but Activision is disliked for a damn good reason, they're not fair to their customers.
I don't understand how people can think COD is a good game anyway. By itself it sucks. Given a few friends and some banter, I'm sure the scrubfest is entertaining. From my perspective though as a CS player, the game is so not technical it's boring. At first it's confusing because people seem to be strafing and spraying which apparently doesn't disadvantage them at all. In pubs, those kids can still get a bunch of kills too. Combined with slow movements, it's so easy in public servers.
Now, I know I would get murdered by the good COD players because even though it's easy to get kills, those guys are still orders of magnitude better than me. However, the CS players just seem more serious to me, more talented, less gamey. So sure the game is fun, whoopwhoop. I think it's very shallow regardless. That's why COD players are often referred to as COD kiddies. It's a gamey game that's very nice for children.
Edit: It occurred to me that we should take this to PMs or drop it.

It's only fun when they run.

Playing a difficult game that has a steep learning curve. Independently figuring out how to be good at said game(I can't stand when people immediately run to forums/sites for guides, builds, etc., without attempting to figure it out on your own). Beating others who are also very good at said difficult game.

What's fun for me is playing a competitive 1v1 game like Starcraft and crushing my opponent. Having him try his absolute best against me and still failing. Laughing at his pitiful attempts to stave of defeat while I tear him apart.
Maybe I should see a doctor.
