Most Fighting games premiere scene is America. There's players from all around but the broadcasted tournaments are 99% of the time in the US.

Well, I just watched the entire documentary and I can see why it would fit into TL. Can we expect some content/event coverage for smash on TL?

It's such a quick game, where people don't play on lcds because there is a frame or so of lag on them, that I just can't see a reality in which there isn't too much lag to play over the internet. Every 16.66.. ms is equivalent to 1 frames delay just by the by, and I just can't see a solution that would work to get rid of it. But holy shit I wish there was one, I'd love to be able to play online :D
People hit 1 frame links online. People play KOF 13 online.
It's not ideal conditions but heh..

WOW! I watched the documentary Smash Brothers and I have to say, I love this.

Playing over the internet is cool but I have a feeling that one of the things that really makes a scene special and close knit is the fact that you are forced to game socially face to face in order to get better. To be honest isn't that really what happened for BW in all the PC Bangs in SK that really made it take off. The social aspect is boss, tourneys and smashfests are SO much fun. The old school element of 4 players sitting around the same screen is great imo . So I wouldn't worry hugely about playing on the internet...

Playing Smash bros online is "illegal" because you need an emulator to do it. Here's a link. The lag is pretty extreme. You can't play people too far away. e.g. west coast region doesn't play south region doesn't play east coast. http://smashboards.com/threads/dolphin-online-melee-netplay.335432/
There's an IRC chat that people use to find matches here: https://qchat.rizon.net/?channels=dolphin-ssbm&uio=Nz10cnVlJjk9MzU3fe
You're looking at equal-to-or-worse-than-LCD-display-like lag with the 50ms delay. Since I have no CRT at the moment I've been on dolphin solo teching and I believe there is lag without internet as well.
I sometimes play, west coast, "desktop" on irc yay playing random people

I'm going to piss people off with this but meh... melee is way way way way faster then kof, sf4, mvsc. Not that they don't have things requiring frame perfect timings either. How on earth do you play a fighter with 14 frames of lag

The lag online isn't really extreme if you play people that are pretty close!
Still useful since you can play people can otherwise couldn't really visit everyday.

lol didnt see this coming

WOW holy shit this is amazing!
|
Yeah it's not bad in the large scale of things but you're still looking at 30ms ping best case ><

Amazing Pick up hungrybox pls for jiggly power

This came out of left field. I enjoy fighting games, but not so much into Smash. Cool pick up though; congrats to the players.
