Upmagic begins the series at the eight position and Jaedong on the opposite side at the two. Jaedong elects to get an extractor before his spawning pool. He proceeds to follow that up by hatching at his natural. UpMagic gets an early start on vespene as well in order to begin a factory immediately after the completion of his barracks. UpMagic then blocks off the choke between his main and natural with his barracks and a second factory. Jaedong quickly evolves a lair at his main.
The first four zerglings are out and sent on a scouting party after Jaedong guesses incorrectly with his first two overlords. As they leave, the zerglings encounter UpMagic’s scouting SCV. The SCV is removed by the zerglings after it sees nothing more than the hatchery building at the natural. A spire is up next for Jaedong while there are a pair of spinning machine shops on the Terran side. The first vulture dances with a full group of speedlings around UpMagic’s natural, falling to victim to them after dispatching only a single one. Meanwhile, a marine manages to frighten away an intruding overlord, but not before it gets a good look inside the base.
Vultures continue pumping out of the factories as Jaedong gases up at his natural. Five vultures head out, enabled with increased speed and mines. The zerglings at Jaedong’s ramp attempt to keep the vultures at bay, attacking spider mines as they are laid. Eventually the zerglings are forced to retreat to the natural. They do so just as Jaedong’s mutalisks arrive.
Jaedong continues to prove himself as a master of timing in this matchup
With the vulture threat neutralized, the mutalisks fly across the map to engage the enemy at its base. As the vultures are currently useless on defense, UpMagic sends the remaining ones to Jaedong’s bases. Both players engage a raid on the enemy mineral line, each meeting little opposition at the outset of the attacks. UpMagic produces goliaths to handle the mutalisk threat, but they go down quickly under the fire of superior numbers.
UpMagic’s vulture assault was largely successful destroying all but three of Jaedong’s drones. Unfortunately he has nothing at his own base to defend against the invading mutalisks. Goliaths come out in pairs, but they are not enough to rid himself of the infestation. Mutalisks continue to destroy SCV’s, eventually bringing the count down to none. The vultures have since killed all but one of Jaedong’s drones. Each player is left with about a hundred minerals at this point in what looks to become a race to elimination.
UpMagic seeks protection for his buildings in hopes to outlast Jaedong
Clearly behind in the elimination race, UpMagic begins to lift off his structures. He floats them over to the nearest dark swarm. UpMagic loses his last two vultures and Jaedong invests his remaining minerals into a pair of drones. A final goliath protects the buildings from cover of the dark swarm, but without any income and no way to deny that of Jaedong’s, UpMagic is forced into concession.
UpMagic starts the second game in the top right, and Jaedong in the bottom left. For the second time UpMagic builds at the choke to his natural, first with a barracks. An early drone scout is able to harass the working SCV and then investigate the main well before it can be entirely blocked off. The drone makes himself elusive while it has its look around. A spawning pool on twelve back at the Zerg base is now underway. The scout drone picks off an SCV and then runs home before a marine can pick it off.
An SCV scout arrives in time to see a hatchery start to morph at the natural. Zerglings chase away the intruder. An academy finishes off the wall at UpMagic’s base, inside of which he starts a factory. Jaedong finally gets his extractor. UpMagic's base continues to be unscouted and he constructs a pair of starports while some marines and firebats occupy the natural, guarding it from any curious enemies. The bionic units move out and explore the immediate area for hostiles. Jaedong upgrades to lair.
Wraith's catch many unprepared overlords, keeping the Zerg on defense
Wraiths begin building at both of the starports and Jaedong’s spire has only just begun. The first wraiths out pretend to be corsairs as they commence overlord harassment. After Jaedong sees the wraiths he begins an evolution chamber at his main. As the overlords go into hiding, the wraiths turn to the drones before some more overlords unwisely hatch nearby. The next two wraiths hunt down some overlords on UpMagic's side of the map. The four wraiths unite eventually and begin drone removal, but the natural is protected by a spore colony with one soon to be finished at the main.
The academy wall holds true, keeping the inner base unknown
Zerglings continue to be repelled at the wall, but UpMagic is also being kept from an expansion. With the drones under protection, the wraiths must once again turn to a new target. This time the target of choice is the spire. But that attack is short lived as a group of scourge finally hatch and take out several wraiths. Cloaking reserach is underway for UpMagic as five of his wraiths remain, soon to be seven.
A scourge goes on a scouting mission to find out what UpMagic has been up to as UpMagic finally takes the opportunity to secure his natural expansion. UpMagic begins a transition into a bionic build and starts a new pair of barracks. Under the power of invisibility the wraiths continue harassment, but Jaedong has managed to create a sizable air force of mutalisks and a few scourge. Barracks number four and five are now under construction.
Having been pissed off from previous harassment, Jaedong’s overlords get a speed upgrade. Though they don’t use it to run away. Accompanied by a bunch of their mutalisk buddies, the overlords chase down the cloaked wraiths. Only two wraiths escape alive as UpMagic's bionic transition is complete. Marines and medics begin to move out.
But during the brief period of non-harassment, the mutalisk numbers have gotten out of control. They force the SCV’s to leave the natural after a hasty dispatch of three turrets. The mutalisks next turn to the advancing marines and medics and decimate the army. Next on their battle orders, the mutalisks make a quick run through UpMagic’s main, but do little damage. however, they did successfully attract the Terran army in their direction as Jaedong brings in a second full group of mutalisks at the natural.
As UpMagic shifts his army back to the natural, Jaedong brings the first group of mutalisks back through the main for another run and the second group pulls back for a bit. UpMagic splits his forces between the two locations. Jaedong responds by combining the two groups and sending it to demolish the forces at the natural. The marines in UpMagic’s main come just in time to see the last of the other group of marines fall in battle. In fear they retreat to a bunker, but not even half a dozen SCV’s can keep it from burning down and the four fearful marines suffer the same fate as their fellow soldiers.
There is no magic trick that can protect against this attack fleet
The mutalisks begin to ravage the rest of UpMagic’s main. With zerglings training in UpMagic types out and prepares for game three.
UpMagic has his back against the wall and will begin his uphill fight from the Ride of Valkyries position at five. Jaedong is given Nostalgia to work with at one o’clock. Jaedong twelve hatches at his natural, followed by a spawning pool while UpMagic goes with a 14CC build. He follows his command center with a pair barracks to seal his base and natural from intrusion.
A bunker is made behind the two barracks for further protection. Jaedong makes a lair. Two drones move out toward UpMagic’s base with zerglings hot on their tails (do drones have tails?). A hydralisk den begins morphing next. The two drones mine away a part of the mineral wall above UpMagic’s expansion with UpMagic completely unaware of the Zerg treachery. With the mineral wall gone about twenty zerglings rush into the base. They surround the bunker and bring it to the ground.
When guarding the front door, be sure to check that the back door is locked
UpMagic pulls SCV’s to help combat the swarm. The zerglings keep coming, and they just fight better than SCV’s anyway. With the SCV’s out of the way, the zerglings go to work on razing the two barracks. UpMagic makes a supply depot to close off the entrance at the mineral wall. When two firebats emerge from the two barracks to little effect, UpMagic is beyond being able to get back into the game. Jaedong takes the win and continues his walk down a potentially royal road.
