Best friend from 4th & 5th grade I never really talked to after I moved, don't know how he's doing. Best friend from middle school, we drifted apart a a little bit during high school, but still good friends (just maybe not best friend). I haven't really talked to him since high school though. Most of my other high school friends I still talk to occasionally, more often in the summer.

But I guess I have changed more and it's not the same thing hanging out. I only have contact with two friends from highschool and earlier. Funny thing is both of them was in my class at 1st grade. Kinda bad that I have not kept in tuch with more of my friends I have had over the years. Like when I went out on the town last time, I didnt recognise anyone and I live in a rather small town.

Then at age 13 we ended up going to the same high school. I hung out with my old friends while looking out for him, because he'd spent a year going to school in Canada and said it was horrible (always got teased, etc), so whenever he appeared to be alone or awkward I'd show up and walk around with him during lunchtime. Eventually he settled in and we didn't really speak to each other much, except we'd occasionally go around to the other guys house on weekends to play games or do stuff. Mostly though I'd go around to my other friends house - he was smarter and more 'on my level' in terms of individuality and interests. We genuinely had a lot in common, right down to personality. I could hold discussions with him without being told to slow down. Then at 15, I moved houses and schools to the other side of the city. I ended up a lot closer to my now-best friend, so that was convenient. In the last place I was living it was a 45 minute drive to his house. From here, I could bike there in 20 minutes or get driven in 10. My old friend still called me, as I had given him my number prior to moving. He left messages asking why I was ignoring him, and inquiries as to whether my mother was even passing said messages along to me. Eventually the calls stopped. One day when I was about halfway through 16, I rang him. I got his incredibly hot sister on the line (which I have neglected to mention so far) and after a few minutes of talking I asked to speak to him. I told him I'd been swamped by schoolwork and that I'd never gotten to reply to his messages. I figured we could spend a day in town doing stuff. We spent a day in town but it wasn't really that great. He hadn't changed much aside from the fact he now had a car. So it went back to the former state of affairs. He didn't call me back. When I was 17 and going to university, I had come back from town one night from a class that ended at 6, and the bus depot was pretty much empty. As I was walking over to my bus stop, I saw him. He was standing with his back to me with his arm around a girl, and followed by two others. I continued walking away from him and they eventually wandered off. That alleviated some of my 'concerns' (although they can't really have been genuine concerns if I never rang him to check up on him). I look back on it now, two years later, and wonder if by leaving him I allowed him to realise that he didn't need me to be a normal person and that he could make friends and function fine by himself. My rational mind tells me that this is the guilty part of me trying to justify just leaving him by himself without telling him what was up. Another part of my mind tells me I should ring him again to see if I can get in touch with his aforementioned sister. But whatever. By now he's probably moved down south to go to university and is doing well for himself. I feel like I should have made a blog of my own about this, but hey, you asked for it.
