Today I went to the inner city and instantly got pokemon shown in the "nearby" - display. Could even catch some! So there seem to exist some areas where there are just no encounter even though there are pokestops nearby. Maybe it has something to do with data usage in the area(although that wouldn't make much sense in my case) but it sure is wonky. Especially because there are for example also no encounters around the university I attend (around 20.000 students). Conclusion: If you live in a big city have fun. If you have the same problem as me though AND you life in a more rural area or small city... you're fucked. Going to be dangerous in the US if the pokemon are concentrated in our inner cities.

Three footprints means it's far away, two medium distance, one is close, and zero means it's within your circle and will pop up any second.

I can imagine some kid crossing the street because the pokemon happened to be placed on a cross walk and the kid not looking and getting hit by a car. it's going to happen and they'll get a huge law suit.

But no battles with pokemon/other players make me look at this as just another mobile game that might be extra fun when on holiday or going somewhere else (because you'll catch different pokémon.) There are no fights? o_O What are you doing in the Gyms then? :o

Huge disappointment due to the fact well their servers are flooded and they didn't anticipate this common occurrence. Yeah the law suit will fail as it should.

As your trainer level increases, max CP of pokemon increases too. So a zubat caught at lvl 4 will probably have less CP than the zubat caught at lvl 5. Of course there is still randomness involved. I believe all pokemon of the same species have the same CP cap (for your given trainer level). So personally I only train pokemon that no longer need to evolve (my hypno, jynx, pidgeot...) Most gyms in my area already have 350+ CP pokemon in them so training is a must if I want gyms. When I have enough candy for an evolution, I just choose the pokemon that has the highest CP, transfer all the others to the professor, and then evolve the best one.
