The PC bang owners association has reported Blizzard to the Korean Free Trade Commission for unfair practices regarding the pricing policy of StarCraft: Remastered.
Every single modern game has a PC Bang pricing policy where the PC Bang pays by the minute (around 20 cents per hour). This includes almost all Blizzard games, with the notable exceptions of HearthStone (prolly because it's F2P) and Brood War. BW is the last game that's significantly played in PC bangs that goes by the "buy once, use forever" model.
The PC bang association's argument is that SC:R does not provide a significant enough upgrade over BW to warrant a change in pricing policy, and that BW's "unstable" systems (the explanation in the article is vague) are forcing them to switch to SC:R, even if they wanted to remain on an older version.
PC Bangs also restated an earlier complaint about about how battle.net accounts that have purchased a personal copy of SC:R, when used at PC bangs, will still incur a fee to the PC bang, which could be construed as Blizzard charging twice for the same product (apparently this has been a running thread with Blizzard and PC bangs for a while in other games).
Eh, even before 1.18, it's not like BW was unplayable (if it was, how did it regularly hit the top 10 in PC bang usage rankings?). If you INCLUDE the modernizations of 1.18, I don't really see the argument that they're being 'forced' to upgrade.
bullshit. SCR is definitely worth the price to pay for. PC bangs just don't want to pay. I don't see what's wrong about blizzard asking them to pay if they want SCR in pc bangs.
Given just how playable vanilla BW is, it would actually be interesting to see if PC bangs collectively tried to stay on BW without upgrading. An actual ruling in favor of the PC bangs by the fair trade commission would be incredible to see as well, from an industry standpoint.
have u tried playing vanilla bw after playing SCR? i could not switch back, SCR looks too damn pretty. and I was one of those people who loved the original bw graphics. But the biggest reason why it would be stupid for PC bangs not to include SCR is the bnet upgrade. the matchmaking and the ability to quickly find or host games. Much better to find friends as well since the friendlist is connected to OW, HS, WoW, etc. Blizzard will easily win imo.
if pc bangs stick to vanilla, it's gonna piss off customers and people will flock to pc bangs that can fork over the $$$.
