When I played startcraft 1v1s on and off on Bnet in 'the olden days' I mostly chose 'random' since I thought that in order to truly master the game I felt you needed to be competent with -all- races. I felt people who just stuck to one race were on ez mode. Heh, little did I know. I always had a preference for Zerg though, I just love how they are the swarming race, just sending endless streams of zerglings or hydras to overwhelm the enemy base. My favorite "move" I guess, in those days, used to be a nice zergling surround on a group of MnM. When streaming in you see those first ones die but you know that in a split second the tables will be turned and your zerglings will slaughter those MnM.
Anyway, a year back or so, me and my mates caught onto competetive Starcraft. One of us, the Zerg player, had been playing for some years and my other mate picked Protoss (not sure if he picked it himself or whether mate 1 advised it). I therefore took the remaining race Terran; we'd have a nice three-way race division.
From then on I started experiencing the game differently. I'd just seen a shitload of promatches and although I had decent micro from playing random UMS maps and whatnot macroing almost felt like a new experience.
My first big showdown was vs my mate who took P. We played an epic bo5 on some of the maps we'd seen in GOM and whatnot and it was pretty close but winning 3-2 on such a different level from how I played before felt really good.
We were both gonna practise up so we stuck to our respective races. I figured I'd get "good" at the one race.
Since then, watching matches and surfing TL and whatnot (that the third time I use that word? gawd) I also came to see Protoss as the EZ race. Yer I just don't like em. At the moment my bro also plays P and he rolls me, but when I watch him play vs other I can't figure out how I can't win vs him. Ah well. Zerg on the other hand is so different from T. I have the utmost respect for those players. Managing economy looks so different and I wouldn't dare playing Z at the mo. Anyway, Terran is the manly race and I feel good playing them. But what the hell. At the moment I'm a mere D on ICC (my goal this season: stay a steady D, and reach D+ the next) so what do I know. I guess that when I can hold my own on D+ with Terran I should explore the other races and start playing those. Maybe I'll change, maybe another race fits me better. At the moment I'm loving Terran though.
