So today was tournament time for our basketball team for the Y league (YMCA) The first round was against this pretty intimidating looking team and our coach told us that we lost to them by like 9 points with four of our players and one guy was a friend of one of them (I wasn't at that game.
The score remains close the whole game which was suprising b/c we got dominated on the boards, the other team got at least 20 offensive rebounds but not able to put them in. If we were called with a foul, they could not shoot a free throw worth their life. About towards the 3rd quarter, the refs start giving bad calls. Some examples: a ref calls a travel on a guy from the other side of the court when the player didn't even move when taking a three point shot (a rare shot that went in) In the first quarter; a ref kept giving fouls and calling travels to everyone, especially to a girl player (our league was co-ed but there are almost no girls in it); the other ref sorta argued with the other saying she didn't foul but he counters by saying he didn't care. (WTF?)
So things heat up by the fourth quarter and the biggest dude on their team pushes one of our guys and he gets a technical foul which in the rules, one T gets you out of the whole tournament. We make two free throws and it looks like we'll pull out. However, they come back and make a basket in the closing seconds and it's tied up again. I get a rebound but then get called for travelling which was actually a legit call! They get the ball back and they get called for travelling again! Then the other team's coach gets a technical for shouting at the refs so the ref calls the game with 3.1 seconds left. The coach get pissed and gets in the ref's face and I would think the ref would back off but nope; he starts pushing the coach and they almost fight. The other side's players are trying to hold them back and the ref that was pissed said he has handcuffs in his bag which could only mean the ref was a cop volunteering for this tournament. So we win 38-36. I scored 4 points, a career high! Haha
The second game was about 2 hours later against a team that hasn't played yet. In the opening minutes, they start a 13-0 run and never looked back and pressure the ball every possession, something we weren't used to. We come back and are down by 8, 16-24 by the end of the half but at the 3rd quarter, they start knocking all down their three's, one guy made like 5 in a row which basically clinched the game. I asked the coach to stretch our defense and he looked at me like I was crazy. Our players start hogging the ball and one of our best players gets blocked every time, his brother though was wet but it was too late. The final score was like 61-30. Ah it was disappointing but I scored 6 points the whole day, yay
Btw has anyone else been watching the conference games in college basketball? Syracuse with 6 OT's against UConn, and another one against West Virginia. The smaller conference's games have been really good b/c it always went down to the final shot. I'm pretty disapointed that UK lost to LSU which basically means's we're going to the NIT, something they haven't done in like 20 years. Louisville on the other hand, just won the Big East title; I'm not a U of L fan but I live there and it's pretty cool how they won it.

Big East champions!
There's actually quite a few of us Louisville residents here, though it's not a tight-knit group at all and everyone seems to be kinda underground about it (except for il0seonpurpose). I can't say that I've met anyone that visits TL.net and is from Louisville in person, despite taking part in a LOT of the LAN events here over the past 7 years or so (other than Elian but I actually introduced him to this place and he doesn't post much at all). On the other hand, I've met dozens of non-Louisville TL.netters over the years through various events like WCG and GGL and stuff. Kinda funny how that works out =P
Should organize an event or a get-together sometime, hopefully the age gaps aren't too large.
Haha no, I tried out freshmen year and didn't make it. I play for the Y though, its what I was talking about on my blog. But ballard lost to J town 82-80 in the regional finals or something so we're not going to rupp Hows your school doing and you play for varsity?
Yeah, I play for the varsity squad . We didn't have a great season because we lost like 5-6 players from the season before, which went decently, but could've been better. Are there any LAN type places anymore in Louisville?

I don't know of any. GameCTRL's been gone for awhile and w00tz! shut down, I'm not aware of anything else. Pretty much the closest thing I can think of are the Lanwar events every so often at UofL. Which are fun in their own right, but have never been an ideal atmosphere for a competitive gamer, save for the MillionManLan events back in the day. Nowadays the MML events are still kinda fun, but not nearly the same without the competitive aspect as heavily encouraged. It's even worse for pure StarCraft players.
The LAN scene's just dying out, which kinda sucks. Louisville's not a big enough city to support full-time LAN centers either, not with how spread out everyone is. However I wouldn't be surprised to see one pop up sooner or later, there's still some interest out there for them.
