Maps with ledges and cliffs are good for terran. (and protoss for blink and colo in example) Short distances bad for zerg as they need to FE. Huge chokes at natural are hard to defend as zerg. Well these are only a few but I sure there will be lots of responses. Even though I recall that there is already a thread about this. You may want to use the search if you want to find answers fast.

Lots of (easily accessible) expos = Zerg haven. Cliffs or something like cliffs = Terran favoured, camp somewhere with tanks and blast away while safely sitting in a nice position (i.e, cliffs). Huge ramps = a nightmare for everyone. large open areas = more then likely to be flanked and in BW (not sure in SC2...) a flanked terran is a dead terran.

Joke aside, the main interest behind void ray is, if you can have one or two fast, you can already screw up a base if not defended accordingly, hence a problem with their scouting or timing. Other than that, massing void rays can be good only if you reach critical mass. Carriers, on the other hand... Ahem.

I cannot think of a map style + matchup that would favor carriers over anything else

Basically, maps can only be bad for Zerg.

Protoss need small chokes to fight 1 on 1 because their units are stronger than most. Terran are kinda in between with lots of small bio units they act more like Zerg but with few and strong mech units its more like Protoss.
