Their server is currently shit, but the lag in game has nothing to do with it since it's p2p. Every time I've played a korean, there was no lag. This is probably not entirely true anymore. The way their network stack currently works (probably, not confirmed yet), is that it first tries a direct connection if the ports are opened, and if not then it tries UPNP, and if that's turned off as well, then it routes in-game traffic over Blizzard's servers, which is probably done in a dumb way and with very small worldwide coverage of their servers, which could introduce quite a bit of lagg.
So opening your ports manually could still have some benefits.

you are using the logic and brain capacity of a 5 year old
Depending on how much you lag is where you are located in relation to Korea and what internet highway bottlenecks the connection goes trough.
( also Some korean isp provider allow higher upload speeds for outside connections those players with that kind of isp typically dont lag with eu connections)

People complain too much and are ungrateful as shit, I have experienced little to no lag and everyone who has lagged, has NOT been Korean....It's not Blizzard's fault your Internet sucks, it's not Blizzard's fault you lag vs people outside of your native country, Blizzard is doing an amazing job with this game, be thankful.

so we are ungrateful as shit ? no man ur just having no informations thinking all u know is gold ... up until 1 day ago everything was fine 1 day ago the one developer changed the way it works since then even people on 1500 elo who insta got an enemy before now get koreans and it lags it lags just start stream look taketv streams starcraft1... oh wait no it LAGS ...

Finding games from South Africa within half a minute now, yay!
Edit: ladder/profile views etc still don't work though.

They need to make it so that you can select to play globally or regionally. Not that big of a deal. Some players can play vs korea fine some can't. They were having trouble getting higher mmr players matches within a reasonable timeframe.

MaNa just quitted the stream saying it's impossible and fustrating to play with this lag. Enjoy.

sounds like global ladder just isn't feasible... I was enjoying playing vs Koreans too.
I used to VPN to fish with no lag as did as lot of people, so I don't see why Blizzard couldn't implement something similar to route connections in such a way to minimise lag.

but as long as they dont have they need to revert it back i get its back when people above 2000 need 20 minutes to find a game but having mana and co quitting because every game is a lagfest cant be the answer

No, FIN-KOR has always been very laggy. On fish been using vpn for it, but that failed now too. First games I played today didn't lag almost at all, now last 10 games or so have been very laggy.

While I love playing Koreans, I do agree that Blizzard should probably redefine the search terms a bit if people from EU are getting games to Korea instantly. I know others have lag issues, but I don't know the best fix for this. It's the problem with global match making because there aren't enough players in EU/NA to consistently get games at your level of play (if you play at a higher level), but EU to KR seems to lag for a lot of EU players.
Dunno what the best solution is, but it should probably search for 30 seconds before expanding to Koreans if you are from EU. For NA, I say keep it instant .

I assumed I was only matching players in the US and it's always a fast match. But if people from the US or EU are playing Koreans and not getting lag, the Korean must be getting lag, no? Koreans always played with lag for SC2 international tournaments when playing vs EU or US if the game was played on the EU or US server.

That's not really how lag works in Brood War. When there is lag the game pauses for everyone and waits. That is why it gets stuttery.

With the way BW online play works, if you aren't getting lag they aren't either. It's a Peer 2 peer system, not server based like SC2.
