Is there any other way to avoid/prevent vampire level drain aside from the negative plane protection spell? Any items? If so, any idea where to get them?
I progressed into Chapter 3, but I'm still doing all the Athkatla side quests, and I get jumped repeatedly by the vampires. This usually results in at least one character dying because I can't use spells without getting attacked by the Cowled Wizard assholes! Not a major issue, but pretty annoying.
Not exactly answering your question, but there's a way to buy your right to cast spells in town. It's in the Wizard HQ, in the sector where you can find Jan and Viconia. I don't know about english version, but in french the price announced is litteraly 10 times the real one, which I think is 5k.

You can use Cleric/Druid spells, just your Mages are not allowed to cast. So there is no reason to have problems with Leveldrain due to the cowled wizards.

Oh, no shit? Didn't notice that. Nice. Thanks.

Amulet of power grants immunity to level drain. You get it from the shadow thieves leader Aran Linvail when you side with him over Bodhi.

Oh, no shit? Didn't notice that. Nice. Thanks. In the whole game there is no reason to cast spells outside. You can buff in indoor areas, and all the random encounters while traveling in the city you can cast mage spells without problems.
There is some encounters in the docks at night but buff for those inside and let your non-mages take care of it. Those are all easy anyways as soon as you get one amulet.

Sure there is. It's fun to kill the cowled wizards.

Playing through Baldur's Gate Trilogy right now and damn, mages in BG1 are so freaking hard with SCS. I feel like an helpless child without True Sight, Breach and others "I'm gonna break your defences down" spells. Dunno what there's doing but they seem like immune to my Magic Missile and with low saving throws, crowd control spells are so annoying.
So much fun anyway, this game really is the greatest RPG of all time!

So much fun anyway, this game really is the greatest RPG of all time! You need to use magic resistance potions and attack with one guy so he uses all his spells on him :D

Yeah it's pretty hard! You need a few detect invis, remove magic, and spell thrusts ready. Wait till you start the liches in BG2 with scs installed, it's a whole new ball game lol, i'm loving it!

God I remember those. Their time stop spell was the bane of my existence. You never knew what they were going to throw at you.

So, I just managed to install BG Trilogy and some fixes/tweaks, I decided to roll half-elf wild mage (not my first character, though I never finished BG1 or ToB, only finished SoA). I spend som time rolling and I rolled a total of 79 points, which I got into: 18 int, 18 dex, 16 const, 9 str/charisma/wisdom.
Now, as I don't remember correctly, is this enough or should I spend more time rolling for more points? I do think, I will need more wisdom in ToB and I know about the charisma ring at the start of SoA, but I need to play through BG1 + Tales first, so maybe even more charisma needed? Will be thankful for any advice, since it's really a long time ago when I played BG last time...

Charisma is almost useless in BG, prices will be a bit cheaper and there are like a couple of minor quests where you can get a different choice but seriously you will not even notice lol. ( I only remember one at Beregost where you have to kill a guy if your cha is too low, or maybe it was wisdom ).
Completly different of PS:T where you have to max Int and Cha first if you want to really enjoy the game.

I just installed a bunch of mods, and re-installed BG2/TOB but there seems to be a animation bug for my spells. My spells have this really ugly black background animation attached to them like they are not part of the game.
Here is my mod installation order, please look over them and lemme know if any are not compatible...

If I pay for imoen does that mean I can't do my quests I already picked up anymore? I haven't paid for her because I'm scared of losing all my quests lol

Why would you ever pay for a magic license? Killing off the enforcers the cowled wizards send is infinitely more fun.

Okay, second question. Every time I turn on the game it always thinks it's my first time and asks me to configure my graphics options. Is there anyway to get around this? It's not really major but it's super annoying.

I've been reading the Dark Elf trilogy, just finished the second book and well, had to start up some mutha fuckin' baldur's gate.
Having a bit of trouble installing BG1 though, I'll try harder tomorrow and look more into the mods. I think the mega pack ones would suffice?
