Now about highlevel missions. They stated several times, that you can't just buy a ship and fly it around, you need to maintain it. That's basic MMO-economy, you need a money-sink. So, there are too possibilities, at least i only 2 two.
1) They have content of varying difficulty from the start. Be it missions or grinding, there is content for fighters, content for frigates, content for capitals. In that case, the idris-owner will skyrocket his balance through the roof and dominate the market.
2) Everyone has the same difficulty of content from the start, no matter what he flies. In that case the idris-owner will rebel, because he can't sustain his real-money investment cause the money he gets from shooting pirate-fighters with his corvette doesn't suffice to reload his fuel tank.
Which one do you find more logical for them to do?
3) something totally different, because neither of your scenarios will be correct.
In the end, i can't change anything anyway. I just don't understand why you don't see the problem of giving players an even bigger headstart. Surem in the end, there is always someone who can dedicate more resources, be it time into the game. But giving players even more power by making them pay for their progress is making other resources completely irrelevant.

the advantages of having a super expensive ship aren't so much greater than having a cheap ship that is well-equipped (a £100 ship with £500 equipment).
caught out in the open, either of you are going to die pretty fast.
as for doing missions, sure you can do them faster in a battleship. you can do them "fast enough" in a cheap ship already though.
in eve its all about what you're willing to risk. there is always a bigger fish in the sea. if you took 5 capital ships and 100 friends to guard you, it'd only be a matter of time before the rest of the eve clans organised together and wiped you out.
who can beat this guy and his army? well: this other guy and his army
In EVE you have a full developed economy. Try to remember back when the game started, how many of the players were able to fly a battleship? None. How long did people need to unlock battlecruisers and actually purchase one? Yeah sure, you can kill on BC with 10 frigates. But what if there are 10 frigates vs 9 Frigates and a BC? And that BC specializes in fighting vs frigates as well, cause he knows most enemies will fly frigates?
Compare the income you can do with a Tier 1 frigate to the income you can do with a BS in EVE. They already stated that by buying a bigger ship, you are spipping content. In every game, the farther you are in content, the more resources you get for your time invested. It's basic gaming theory. To give the player the idea of getting better, you reward him better. So tell me, how are they able to not give players with $$-Ships an enormous increase in credits/hour while not pissing off their backers? Hint, they don't.
I'd like to back this, but kinda reluctant until there seems to be come concrete information about how the gameplay is. Looks like there'll be a shitload of people with better ships than me as well, so don't really fancy being the permanent underdog, since I assume more $$$ = more ship upgrades / modules.
I'm guessing in game credits = USD = ?earnable in game as well.
Anyways, it seems to be doing very well regardless so good for them. Keeping one eye out to see how it end up, maybe see some of you in game later.

gameplay information; play wing commander and privateer. obviously star citizen will be more sophisticated (and online). also, there is no "best" ship. what difference does it make what ship someone else has?

Certain ships are designed for certain roles and will be better for fighting, trading, exploring etc. I think he means that if he goes into the game wanting to be a bounty hunter with his starter Aurora ship while everyone is flying say, a hornet or the origin 300i then he won't have much of a chance because those ships excel at dogfighting while his is basically all-purpose. Similarly for any other trade, with the possible exception of being an industrialist.
To answer moonfire's question, I think the reality is that the number of people who backed to the number who will play the game overall is going to be a small fraction if we assume that the game will be a hit like EVE online (similar universe, no subscription, and if we assume the game is anything like previous titles it should be pretty good).
Besides that there should be plenty of opportunities to use lower-class ships in dogfights, while the more experienced/capable dogfighters will take more lucrative bounties. You should be able to work your way up regardless where you start. Same with being a trader, although explorer might not work so well. In general I'm skeptical about whether that occupation is going to be a very good one as it seems like the universe would be mapped out fairly quickly by the sheer volume of players.

I was skeptical of purchasing as well. In the end, the reason I backed is because at this point you're basically getting a really good deal, and because Chris Roberts designed Freelancer which was one of my favourite space shooter games, and he said that this game is basically a souped up version of freelancer as well as his previous titles.
If you check out their store page, you can get digital download of the game as well as the single player campaign for only $30 dollars. Assuming this game turns out to be at least as good as freelancer, then that's a pretty darned good deal.
Hanger Module release is being debated right now but I'm under the impression it's next Thursday. Straight from CR himself. I can wait, unlike some self entitled babies crying on the official forums, and I want to see my 325a but I still love the 300i so it's not so bad. A Pirate Bay will be added later as we'll for Cutless, etc.
Back to the whiners. I remember waiting patiently for companies to create great games in the traditional Blizzard fashion of "when it's ready." But because of EA putting out garbage in short development cycles, it seems to be creating this generation of whiners that, apparently, want to play shit games immediately. I just can't believe how many impatient retards are out there.
Personally, I just want to fly around in my ship and do stuff in a beautiful universe with other humans.
The economy? Doesn't concern me that much. I am as happy flying in a fighter as in a battle cruiser. I personally feel people are getting too competitive. So what that guy has 1billion more money than you, does it hurt you? Most likely it hurts your pride i guess. Everyone can get everything, it's just a matter of time.
Personally I think I will be flying a medium sized ship most likely. Does anyone know what's the biggest ship you can fly with 1 person?
