My problem is that my L2 and R2 triggers also seem to be my start and select buttons as well. Whenever I try to parry my gesture menu pops up at the same time and whenever I use my strong attack the start menu pops up. No problem with either motioninjoy or http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/SCP_Driver_Package

I created a caster and killed him in like 4 tries, but I've lost to him at least 20 times as melee now. I don't really want to skip him though, as he dropped a melee ring when I killed him with my caster (of course..).
I think I need a better shield. If he manages to hit me even once, I get staggered immediately and can't dodge his second swing. If he hits flesh, half of the time he stun locks me. I figured out how to dodge each of his attacks, but if I trie to get in a swing of myself, I don't have enough stamina to survive his triple-attack.
When you pay attention to his moves and learn his moveset, you can beat him the first time you see him on that rooftop where he tries to gank you.
You can do it shieldless too.
The entire game is just well timed rolls and stamina management :p Just figure out where it is legitimately safe to swing without endangering your stamina.

As a 40/40 quality build (2nd character up to dragon shrine) is it weird I absolutely ABHOR like 90% of the weapons I own in Dark Souls 2? Seriously, I just spent like an hour trying the Claymore, Zweihander, Black Knight Greatsword, BK Ultra Greastword, Greatsword, Syan Halberd, Mastodon Halberd, Mirrah Greatsword, Lost Sinner's Sword, Uchigatana and find only the Black Knight Greatsword moveset good, and Uchigatana/Claymore acceptable?
I was also lured into upgrading the Sinner's Sword up to +5 (fucking 15 dragon bone) for the promise of amazing damage, which it is, but how the fuck do I hit mobs, let alone people with this shit moveset+tracking? The reason I'm trying them at dragon shrine is because those dickbag dragon warriors are actually a challenge for an NPC enemy.
In DkS1 I loved the Zweihander, I loved halberds, honestly what the fuck happened? Why are the movesets balls and the tracking like an old man with a walker?

Make sure you aren't holding a direction when you swing? The heavy weapons have a "feature" in DkS2 that, even if locked on, if you hold a direction when you attack it'll aim that direction.
Other than that I find that I like most of the movesets on heavier weapons pretty similar to DkS, personally.

Have you tried the Pursuer's Ultra Greatsword? It has been a while since I played DS2 but I remember finding its moveset one of the best for greatswords and solid for pve. In pvp though it's tough to use because of a combo of lag and the slowness of its attacks.

Apparently for some reason From in their infinite wisdom decided to make you attack in the direction you're going, instead of facing, hence why I was missing attacks much, much more in DkS2. So locking on a target and side stepping or backstepping makes you also attack in that direction, instead of, you know, at the enemy you're facing. Gave those fucking dragon warriors with their heavy weapons perfect backstab opportunities. Also isn't it hilarious how they duel bow to you when they see you but fucking won't go 1v1 against you? The least I ever pulled was 2, most was 6. Toppest of Keks Then I figured out they don't actually aggro, only those ruined sentinels on 'roids do. "Ancient Dragon" was kinda easy. Slapping his toes for ~850 per swing was nice, but he flew up in the air a surprising amount of times, and caught me with the fire like 8/10 times because of my weight (like 44 units just from the damn sword+shield), so it was a battle of me running out of Sunny D or him out of life. Guess they nerfed the whole area hard because I heard lamentations of people getting 1-shotted here.
Anyway I finished the base game wearing Alva's set and wielding a +10 Greatsword, +10 Hunter's Blackbow and Havel's Shield. I can see why so many people fancy the greatsword. It's certainly a weapon worthy of using. I liked how right after Throne Watcher/Defender Nashandra just walked in for another boss battle. Felt gud. But all 3 of them got #shrekt by me and Benhart. Vendrick was surprisingly hard. He would stagger me even with Havel's shield and 2 shot me when I had 1700 hp. That's when my strategy changed from blocking to rolling and keeping to his backside. Worked like a charm. I guess there are only 2 things left to do in the base game - Darklurker with the abyss covenant and obtaining the sun sword with the sunbros, then onwards to DLCs.
Does it matter lore/story-wise which DLC i do first? I kinda want ice rapier, loyce GS, Ivory king UGS in my inventory, but I kinda want to leave the best for last also.

If you don't get oneshot by Ancient Dragon, he got nerfed hard, as all of his attacks used to oneshot you, and there was pretty much no way to wear enough armor for that to not happen. If you had a heavy anti fire shield, and blocked, you could sometimes survive his breath, but if you got caught in the middle you would still get oneshot.
I also distinctly remember completely breaking a weapon from 100 - 0 on his toe, and needing to go into the inventory to switch weapons.

It always felt logical to me how you attacked in the direction you're going. On the whole you're not supposed to attack until the front of your body is facing your enemy again. Obviously this mechanic is the most apparent when wielding heavy weapons such as greatswords or ultraswords, but in a way it is logical too: you're wielding a heavy weapon, meaning that your attack speed and turn speed will be affected; you basically sacrifice mobility for extra damage.
Then again, after a while I found myself using lock-on increasingly less. I reserved it for those 1v1 situations that require me to dance around my enemy all the time, such as the sentinels in Drangleic Castle or certain bosses. Knowing when to use lock-on and when not to use it is another subskill in itself in Souls games.
In Bloodborne, this mechanic is taken one step further, up to the point that using lock-on is downright detrimental and will get you killed in many situations.

Well, in its defense, you are attacking a creature that is supposed be 'everlasting', meaning incredibly old, and also incredibly powerful. No way it will be impressed when it gets ticked by a mere human or undead.

All you have to do is release the left stick (or whatever movement keys) a split second before you attack, if you want to keep the lock on. It was really counter-intuitive at first coming from DkS1, but you get used to it quickly. It's an easy habit. I actually embrace the swing direction changing now, especially against other players when you want to remain unpredictable and swing where they will be instead of where they are now.

I can not even count how many times i died there. I tried all sorts of things, including some gigantic shield that actually allowed you to block his fire if only two ticks hit. In the end i was able to run past all of the guards on the way towards him without getting hit, and at some point i finally figured out how to reliably dodge his gigantic flying flamebreath, and afterwards it was just ages of punching his right toe.
Chasing his tail didn't actually work out too well for me, his moves were much more dangerous and annoying when doing that, right toe is where it's at.
And apparently this means that i finally did something prenerf in one game, and get to be a gigantic douchy elitist about it forever!

God the Ruin Sentinels are brutal... I'm running around and trying to kill either the Ruin Sentinels or the boss-necromancers in Hutman's Corpse, but I can't kill either in time before being completely overrun, despite having a sword that's probably overpowered. I have 25 STR and 22 Dex and walking around with Drangleic Sword + Shield.

Necromancers are super ez. Just focus on one, after killing him DO NOT engage the other two - instead, kill all the skeletons that appeared after you killed the first necromancer. Then kill second one, get rid of skeletons, rinse and repeat. The only way this fight may be hard its when you allow the skeletons (especially the wheel ones) to overwhelm you because you were greedy. ;]
As for Sentinels - don't fall down from the first "platform", you can fight and kill the first Sentinel right there. After that you need to jump down, but then you only have two of them to deal with. Keep both of them in your sight and be very defensive, can't get greedy with hits or you'll get smashed.
|
Hints/strategies:
Skeleton Lords in Huntsman's Copse
+ Show Spoiler +Kill them one by one, kill the stuff that spawns after you kill one before continuing. Pillars are your friend. The rolling guys are the hardest part of this fight. Get rid of at least one of them on spawn instantly to make the situation more manageable.
Ruin Sentinels + Show Spoiler + Do as much as you can while you are alone on top of the balcony with one of them. You can be able to kill him right there if you play your cards right. Then be careful, don't overextend, and get in whatever hits you can safely do. The jumpy smash tends to give you some time to hit.

I beat Fume Knight yesterday! definitely the hardest boss iv fought in any souls game.

Wow, finally playing the DS2 DLC's on SotfS and i frankly im getting more pissed off and frustrated than any other time playing DS1 or DS2. Finished the 1st DLC, that was hard as fuck, especially that garbage 3v1 fight which is complete bullshit. Now im 1/2 through Crown of the Iron King and your fighting these stupid fucking lightning mages or something, and the amount of enemies that come after you that are super agressive are just destroying me. While i think the level design, and the environments look amazing, im finding the DLC to be very cheap and far more frustrating than any other time ive played a Dark Souls game.
|
i disagree. the dlc for ds2 is significantly harder then any other part of any souls game imo but not unfair. its all beatable with proper equipment and good dodging skills. You are gonna want 2 or 3 fully upgraded weapons with different damage parameters and endurance use.
I like that it forces you to do some serious upgrading after the end of the main game before you take on the dlc.
got the crown of the old iron king last night after bashing my head against fume knight for 3 days. I was finally able to beat him with ricards rapier, leo ring and an upgraded rebels greatshield. beating him felt sooooooooo good. those lightning bitches have 0 poise and their main spell, the lighting orb thing, is easy to roll through. just get up close and smack'em around with something heavy
|
The difficulty is weird in this game. I get stuck for hours at a stupid optional dude (the Pursuer) and then I just obliterate some guy in a dark room (Lost Sinner) and then find out that he is supposed to be some sort of important boss?
